ParticipantIf it’s not been recalled, go ahead with the repair. Whirlpool must have their reasons to only recall certain models. Perhaps its a particular combination of lock type, harness type and heater power. It’s a pity they choose not to share the technical details.

ParticipantThe heat exchanger for cooling tends to get blocked up with fluff after 2-3 years. The heat exchanger washing systems used by some (eg Bosch, LG) don’t seem effective, and on those machines, a complete drum-out stripdown is needed to access the heat exchanger. Other brands, such as Hotpoint, Electrolux, and Hoover, are more accessible.
ther than that, you’ll come across all the usual faults, such as belts, tensioners, motor capacitors, fans, etc, but there’s not usually a heater to worry about. Given the extra kit in the base, access to components tends to be more time consuming. Properly testing the heat pump system isn’t that feasible during a typical call-out, given the time these dryers take to warm up.
Given what I have seen of these machines so far, I won’t be investing in one myself any time soon.

ParticipantIf they are taking back so many, I wonder if some customers will get refurbished rather than new machines?

ParticipantYou carry no liability for product safety, the producer does, ie Whirlpool. However, if you can easily identify the customers you sold the machines to, then it would be courteous to contact them to advise them of the recall. GDPR isn’t an issue unless you are sharing their data with a third party.
There should be no need for you to exchange the machines on behalf of Whirlpool, as Whirlpool should arrange repair or replacement with the customer directly, whichever remedy they prefer, once the customer has registered their machine with them. However, I noticed that the online registration form asks the customer to enter the name of the retailer it was purchased though, so I guess it is possible Whirlpool will make arrangements with some of the larger retailers to speed up the logistics, but surely not without a negotiated reimbursement of costs to the retailer.

ParticipantIt seems she misunderstands consumer law, which only allows 30 days to reject faulty goods and request a refund. After that, it’s repair or replacement, exactly what Hotpoint are offering.

ParticipantI agree this is not a new phenomenon. If I remember correctly, quite a few Zanussi/Tricity Bendix washing machine door locks from the early 2000s overheated, usually causing wiring damage as well.

ParticipantI suspect we are going to see a lot more models added to the list. Most notably I can’t believe there are only 3 Indesit models affected. Maybe this is the real reason the site has been taken down.
Of a quick sample of 5 recent models I’ve come across with burnt out lock connector blocks this year, 3 are on the list, 2 are not (HE8L493GUK, WMAQC641PUK).
Has anyone heard what the modification comprises?

ParticipantI’d wager the weakness is with the type of small contact area idc terminals used, rather than the interlock itself, possibly exacerbated by vibration caused by misaligned appliance feet.

ParticipantI’ve experienced absolutely no trust issues with iZettle, customers really like it. These days there are very few connectivity problems with 4G, but if there is no mobile signal, the customer’s wifi is always available as a back up. A one-off charge of £25 for the card reader, no monthly fee, and 1.75{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} commission on any card (including American Express). The battery lasts months between charges. The only downside is there is no “customer not present” facility. so it won’t take telephone payments.

ParticipantI’ve had no issues with deliveries from Qualtex Denton this week – one order on Sunday evening delivered on Tuesday, another order on Thursday afternoon delivered on Friday. So they’ve hopefully cleared their backlog now.

ParticipantThey are one of my main suppliers now. I find pricing keen on some parts, expensive on others. They’re not so good on some brands (eg Hotpoint), but for other brands, I’ve found quite a few parts on stock available on special order only from UK distributors. DHL next day delivery service from Paris has been 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliable. I am not sure what their order cut-off time is, but I have ordered up to 4pm UK time with no problem for next day delivery. The only issues I have had are with parts relayed across to Paris from elsewhere in Europe, where I take the 48 delivery estimate with a pinch of salt. However, if you order a mix of “24h” and “48h” parts, you get two deliveries at no extra cost. Customer service (by email) has been brilliant, eg refunded but told to keep the part when one small item I ordered on 48h stock was delayed by several days due to a German bank holiday.

ParticipantThey have undermined that claim by agreeing to take the old one back. Didn’t their engineer confirm the drum was scratched?

ParticipantIt may be worth you passing their claim to your Beko rep and asking them to resolve it on your behalf as under product liability law, although the consumer should claim against you, the manufacturer is ultimately liable to reimburse you for any losses you incur as a result of injury or damage caused by their faulty product.

ParticipantNo one in their right mind would buy it, as the teardrops are selling for less than £3 including postage brand new on ebay.
However, as for condition, apart from the greasy deposits, it looks in pretty good shape to me.

ParticipantStretching the theme a little I think, but certainly a horror…
Luckily it’s the electronic power module that needs changing, not the motor brushes, on this crazy looking Siemens air cooled condenser washer dryer:
