ParticipantRe: Zanussi/AEG tumble dryer belt tension pulley clips
On reflection, the last two Electrolux group dryer motors I’ve looked at didn’t have clips retaining the pulley wheel, is that just a coincidence or does the belt keep the wheel in place without the need for a clip?

Have you checked “Program Options” (the spanner symbol), to make sure the “Show Prices” box is ticked and “Price Multiplication” set to 1?

Thanks all for your input. Just for the record, in this instance the fault was cured by fitting a new control module.

ParticipantRe: Cancellation of Contracts Made in a Consumer’s Home
It would be interesting to know how the manufacturer’s networks are complying with this. After all, the legislation has been in place for almost 9 months now, so you would have expected their lawyers to have sorted out some paperwork by now.
My mum called Miele out a few weeks ago to repair her Oven. She was provided with no paperwork until the work was finished, and then just an invoice on plain paper, no notice of cancellation rights or T&Cs. Or was that just a one-off slip-up by the engineer?
Indesit’s fixed-price parts and labour repair contract obviously gets round this piece of legislation, but BSH, Electrolux, Whirlpool, etc, would presumably have to conform?

ParticipantRe: whirlpool adg450
Thanks both for your suggestions. There’s no black mesh under the filter on this one though, as its a rebadged late Smeg, not a Whirlpool type. Also its definiteley not showing a fault code – the programme light flashes to show whichever programme is running. Any other ideas would be welcome as its a rare and expensive PCB.

ParticipantRe: whirlpool adg450
Can anyone help with this strange fault, which I have come across again on this d/w model (Whirlpool ADG450-3, a slimline made by Smeg). No fault code is displayed. There’s no obvious fault with the solonoids, etc and the PCB resets OK. Am I right to suspect the PCB, or have I missed another possible cause?

We charge by hourly rate so I’ll factor in an extra £20 or £40 on the price if re-installation looks difficult.

Thanks to both of you, numbers look consistent, will order the long number given by Chris, which presumably supercedes the original part no unearthed by Don. Appreciate your help.

Have you installed Adobe Reader? There should be a copy on the DVD.

ParticipantRe: Credit Card rules PCI DSS
I’ve had a look at the security standards and as far as I can see it is aimed almost entirely at card payments using IT systems. The only bits that I noticed relevant to normal non-computerised card processing setups was the requirement to lock away all card details so that only those that need access them can do so.
If taking payment over the phone I never write down any of the card details but key them straight into the chip and pin terminal as I ask for them. So the only thing I have to keep secure are the payment processing slips.

That’s 30{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase on the carbons, 25{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase on the others! Could they have a hidden agenda to use these price rises to subsidise their own fixed price repair service and thereby increase market share at the expense of the independant trade? I’ve noticed they are advertising their service quite heavily on the internet through Yell.com, etc.
Does anyone know how to get hold of these updates for partfinder? They always used to be publicly accessible on the Hotpoint Service website, but this latest update is password protected.

Spending £2000, £3000, possibly £4,000, having whole downstairs laid with fancy 1″ thick quarry tiles, finding the 8kg Electrolux washing machine won’t fit under the utility room worktop, ripping up a few tiles near the skirting leaving a pile of rubble, forcing the front of the machine off the ground as it leans precarioulsy over the remaining tile corners (laid in diamond formation), jammed under the front edge of the worktop.
Then reluctant to spend £65 on the official height reduction kit for the washing machine to allow it to fit properly.

I can’t get through to GBDAR parts dept – they have a recorded message saying all lines are busy. Have they now suspended spare parts sales?

ParticipantRe: Bosch Washer Dryer WVF2402GB/02, FD8406
Just come across this story of collapsing drum fronts and more than a little nervous as I’ve just repaired one of these Bosch washer dryers, where the front drum seal had been leaking.
The clamp band and bolt were unusable as badly corroded, so I ordered a new clamp band from BSH. I was surprised that the new clamp band came without the bolt and nut, but after a 15 minute call to BSH spares followed their advice to buy a new “cheese head” bolt and nut from B&Q as BSH do not supply it as a spare.
These bolts from B&Q (M6 x 80mm) were £2.79 for a set of 10, they bear no markings and are presumably manufactured in the Far East for a penny each. I could see the bolt bending as I tightened it.
Do these cheap bolts really meet BSH’s tensile strength specification, given they need to support a 20kg weight shaken heavily through perhaps 10,000 10 minute cycles at up to 1200 rpm? I doubt it, and don’t want to suffer the consequences if the bolt snaps in 6 months time thereby destroying the machine and possibly more.
Would BSH hold up their hands and accept responsibility for their “technical” advice if the worst happened. I doubt it, the blame would no doubt fall squarely on the “unauthorised” independent engineer for fitting parts not approved by BSH.
Rant over, I can’t believe BSH can’t supply the correct bolts. There are loads of parts for this machine listed as “screw” and “holder” on the BSH system. Does anyone know if any of these is the one I’m looking for?
