Not easy to do, as most brands attempt to span at least two price brackets, plus the plethora of sister brands, but here’s my brand picks to kick things off:

    Budget – Beko, Indesit
Mid range – AEG, Bosch, LG
    Premium – Miele

There are significant errors in the Punchline report. The Company Domestic Appliance Distributors has been dormant for the last few years, and is fully up to date with dormant company accounts. The company trading as Domestic Appliance Distributors is in fact the parent company John Gillman & Sons (Electrical) Limited, also controlled by Alison Taylor, who is also the ultimate owner of the business.

Accounts are fully up to date, showing assets of £9.3 million at 31 December 2023, after a trading losses of £1.8 million in 2023 and £3.1 million in 2022. The director’s statement in those audited accounts signed at the end of 2024 is pretty bullish about improving profitability in future years

I think they’ve changed the interface. If you enter the model number into the MSD search box on Dave’s earlier link, the detailed parts diagrams and listings appear as before.

There must be a good profit margin in Miele spare parts, so I doubt they would want to restrict sales.

As for whether to recommend Miele, I have nothing but praise. For example, I am still waiting for the motor brushes to wear out for the first time on our trusty 2002 Miele W320. A pair of dampers and a drain pump are the only parts I’ve had to pay for so far.

Imagine how many loads have been through during those 23 years, during which time our family has grown from 4 to 5 and back down to 4. Mind you, the rest of the family are fairly well trained in its use, though take no notice of my request not to slam the door shut

Shocking, he has a new company called AC Appliance Repairs. One of his customers has set up a website to log complaints which makes depressing reading:

Depends on whether the circuit is RCD protected – older installations are often not. In my experience, it can be triggered by the heater coming loose and hitting the drum on spin

E03 officially means the machine has difficulty draining, but can alao appear if the heater element is shorting out

Thanks for the suggestion. The walls and evaporator are completely clear of ice, but the short drain outlet is blocking with ice causing the defrost water to overspill onto the base of the freezer where it slowly builds up. I’m thinking I ought to check out that drain tube more closely before condemning the whole appliance

From Electrolux Group’s 3rd Quarter financial report, the following:

“We have during the preparation phase (of the divestment process) assessed that the value of the Zanussi brand will be better monetized as part of the Group’s licensing business, and is therefore presently not being divested.”

In other words, I guess we will see fewer Zanussi white goods and more miscellaneous Zanussi branded products such as the electric blankets that have appeared on the market recently, presumably made under licence

Check the wiring sleeve at base of door – a major weak spot. Tug on each individual wire to check for breakages

    Information from Sage:

And for your periodic updates, it’ll simply be a matter of clicking or tapping a button to prepare the report, then checking it briefly, before sending it off.

You should know there’s no legal requirement for the periodic updates to even be accurate—although it’s best if they are.

It’s only a quarterly summary of income and expenses, not a full tax return, so presumably just a few button presses to submit the return once the quarter’s invoices have been entered on the accounting software?

The turnover threshold for self-employed MTD will come down to £20,000 from April 2028.

A list of compatible software is here:

If you use an accountant, isn’t it just a case of sending them your invoices once a quarter instead of once a year? I’m guessing accountants will love it as it will spread their workload more evenly through the year

Electrolux seems to have a large share of the market with new house builders, at least where I operated in the Midlands, predominantly with their AEG and Zanussi brands. In addition to John Lewis, they are exclusive suppliers to Ikea, and to Travis Perkins, with their Neue brand sold through Benchmarx joinery outlets. The Electrolux brand itself seems to be becoming associated more in the UK with commercial products sold by Electrolux Professional, since 2020 apparently now an independent company.
