    HI GUYS,
MANAGED TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR TODAY, I JUST DID NOT THINK THE BELT WOULD STRETCH THAT FAR.
MY TRUSTY LONG SCREW DRIVER DID THE JOB.
THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE INPUT I RECIEVED EVEN IF I DO FEEL A BIT LIKE A PRAT NOW.

    hi guys,
seen this before (bad news) also always remember to unplug. i was once working in this guys garage looking at a tumble dryer.
i switched it off at the wall thinking everything would be fine put my hand into the machine and BANG!!!!! blew me across the garage not being able to breath.
turned out the switch was nuetral switching meaning the machine was live right up to the plug.
suvived it as you can tell (I WAS NEW TO THIS GAME THEN) just watch out i learnt a valueable lesson that day.
i always use a voltage stick now no chanceing it.

Re: To Charge or not to charge – that is the question

    hi guys,
i always charge in this instance but only a basic call out fee. £35 my normal labour rate is £55 so they dont feel ripped off.
i do inform them that if called again and again no fault found i will charge again.
if there is a fault discovered then they only need pay the remainder of the labour rate plus parts.
dont devalue yourselfs what we have is a skill that took years of hard work and toll to get.
as i was once told by a heating engineer i am payed for what i know not what i can do!

    cheers jim,
i was going about it the right way just thought the machine looked a bit flimsy with the right hand panel removed.
i never thought you had to give it that much to get the belt on thats why i assumed it was the wrong belt?
i will get my big bar out and go for it on monday again thankyou everyone for your input.

    Re: Hotpoint VTD00P

Thanks for info martin, the belts that have come you really have to fight with them just to get them on the drum let alone cover the distance to the motor shaf.
also the there are no jocky wheels and a fixed motor, the machine cmae from john lewis infact both machine came from ther and broke down the same day.
pump failed on the washer and belt on the tumbly. i must be doing something really wrong i just cant see how these belts fit that machine.
i will try again on friday and see what happens.
anyway a big thanks for your help on this one martin i dont come a cropper much but this one is doing my head in.
maybe i am just thinking the worst of qualtex as out of all the orders i have place in the last 2 months half have been wrong parts in fact i have taken the issue up with the rep who came to see me last week and i sent him back with the parts with his tail between his legs.

Re: FUEL PRICES AROUND THE UK.

i dont know about everyone else but i am really struggleing to fill the van these days.
a lot of my calls are far apart ie 20 miles between but i have to do these just to survive.
lets put it this way if they go up any more i will have to raise prices meaning i will no longer be competitive especially against the no call out brigade.
the way things are going in this country i personally think we will all be f@cked in the long run.
I knew there was a reason i dont vote and never will as they are all blood suckers.
whats poeples thoughts about the new london charge due to come into force in feb my van certainly does not qualify so i will no longer be going inside the m25 meaning a massive drop in profits thankyou ken!!!
anyway i hope i havent offended anyone with my rant i have now put my toys back in the pram again.

    hi guys,
sorry this is a bit late, but i recieved a call from a guy last week asking if we would start working with them.
he said it would be with samsung ect i did ask him if he was working for gbdar the answer was no, i went on to ask the usual ?? and he fired back with some resonable answers ie what the price per call £39 for manufacturers and £50 for samsung he reconed samsung will even pay if the customer is not home as thats the only manufacter that arranges the call for you.
you get to arrange all other call your self and you can move calls to suit you.
they dont supply a van stock you need to buy one (i dont think so).
i ask him to send me some info and i havent heard anything since.
i cant remember the name of the company but the guy calls on a mobile number.
anyone else had a call from this guy.

refrigeration disposal is a knightmare as far as i know thats the only way these days.
