Me neither Dave, it’s definitely water getting to bearings.
oh well, I’ll see how long this one lasts and then decide on another repair or replace.
It’s been an outstanding workhorse though

That’s what it’s had twice now. New spider and rear half last time, same spider and another new rear half this time both Hotpoint.
it’d be a shame to ditch it in this current climate but this issue is becoming really annoying.

can I just check that there is only the pulley, then washer then bolt on the rear half? No extra washers I’ve lost in the past to take up this slack?

    cheers

    Morning guys,

flogging a dead horse here, changed the electric motor and that side of things is good but the bearings in the drum have gone again.
this was a new pair of 35mm spider and rear drum separates in August as I mentioned above genuine HP.
Rear bearing is toast loads of movement, looks flushed out.
so I have one more spare rear half which I have dug out, spider shaft surfaces were ok but like the half drum before, when the pulley bolt is done up tight I can still get movement of the inner drum in relation to the outer, feels like a small gap on the inner bearing. The fit was the same before.
I assume I’m destined for failure again as I guess the water seal won’t do its job.
anything I should check before I put it together and start budgeting for a new machine as it seems I can’t even rely on new genuine spares?
    thanks again
    Jez

i am liking the look of ebac for a next one though.

Cheers appliancefreak86, if I had time I’d change the bearings on the electric motor and sling in it again but a busy house demands minimum downtime
I have told the boss the next breakdown will probably end up in a new one as the old girl has done good I’ll check out EBac too

Dragging up an old thread time.

so it appears I’m not great at replacing bearings/spiders on this machine, I get a couple of months before the screeching starts and the bearing noise when hand spinning is awful.
as far as I can remember I did the bearings again in June 2020, didn’t last long so changed bearings and spider feb 21, rear half with bearings but kept old spider as not been long in Aug 21 and now it’s unbearable again. All spares were genuine.
I have available a new rear half and new spider both genuine to try before I lose the Will to live and search the forum for the best new machine.

Am I doing anything wrong with regards to fitting the spider into the half? I tap it home and tighten the bolt making sure there is no bearing play. There is the pulley, shaped washer then bolt.

are there any special tricks I’m missing?

p.s, what machine should I get next? Not worried about cost, family of 4 and never a day goes by with it not on so I want it to last and be repairable!

    cheers all

    Jez

Think I’ll have to use the pre wash compartment. No matter the temp selected it blasts in there first then switches to main compartment.
even after stripping it all down it still does it with new powder. I can only assume the top spray lid is worn and not jetting correctly.
I could try removing the restrictor in the inlet valve I suppose.

Hi Iadom, we have a water softener fitted and checked working ok so soft water.
I’m now thinking rough soap drawer stopping the powder flowing away and now more important how much powder we are adding!
today I checked hose flow from shut off valve and whoosh no problems there on either hose or both together.
I have checked the flow out of each of the solenoids through the hoses to the draw and whoosh all ok.
I have taken the lid off the drawer with the hoses attached and the flow seems ok. Some holes squirt more forcefull than others but flows seems good from all and cleaned out again just in case.
we use Aerial powder so according to their dosage for soft/medium water @6kg gives 150ml. 100ml = 65g according to box so 150 is just under 100g.
    Daz is 40ml more for a 6kg.
now if 100ml does upto 5kg then 6kg not so far off so I think I should save some powder as 150ml does up to 8kg. Also soft over medium water should reduce that some more so I’m thinking try 65g?
the drawer should still wash all that away though shouldn’t it?
    Thanks!

    Hi Andy, thanks.
I’ve had the whole drawer out and the top off to clean and check it all runs clear. But I will look again to be sure.

It does it with hot washes as it’s still there on the maintenance washes at 90c
i have flushed both hoses into a bucket and the flow seemed good before the OP
    we wash at 30c mostly
I haven’t checked the hoses curled up as they would be behind the machine for flow in case they are breaking down so I’ll do that.
the drawer surface is quite rough after all these years so I might try fine sanding it smoother to see if that makes a difference.
