If it is exclusive to a chain of stores, the cosmetic appearance is usually slightly different. Also, there could be slightly fewer programmes or wash options available, and/or final spin speed could be slightly less.

For instance, a widely available machine might have a 1200 spin, and have a ‘sportswear’ programme. But the exclusive machine may have an 1100 spin, but not have ‘sportswear’.

Yes… and you failed to answer the question then. πŸ˜‰

    What’s the big secret?

Who manufactures the ISE machines, and what is the country of origin?

Straightforward questions call for honest answers.

    POWER OFF FIRST!

And take great care: broken glass can be invisible in water!

It can also depend upon the detergent used. Those multifunction tablets are supposed to dissolve at certain points in the cycle, unfortunately they don’t always. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Dishwashers are designed to use softened water at certain points in the cycle, detergent at other points, and rinse aid in the final rinse.

For best results use separate detergent and rinse aid, and top up the salt reservoir (especially in hard water areas).

The Which? magazine did a test on dishwasher detergents recently. The best were:

Finish “Classic” Tablets (with RED Powerball); Fairy Activebursts (dissolvable pouches). Both require use of separate rinse-aid, and salt.

Finish had the edge on tea stains, but Fairy was better on starch stains.

Which? also said that Finish “5 in 1” Tablets were good, but glasses weren’t as sparkling as they could be. (Rinse aid is incorporated into the PEARL Powerball).

Apparently the worst tablets on test were Waitrose Supermarket’s own brand.

You might be tempted by Finish Quantum dissolvable ‘packs’. I have tried them, and found that they sometimes leave a gooey deposit: not fully dissolved. They are also quite expensive.

As for separate Rinse Aid, I still think Finish gives that extra sparkle that the shops’ own brands cannot.

Which company manufactures the ISE machines?

    Is it sourced from Bosch/Siemens?

Re: Bosch MAXX WFL2260 shaking violently

There could be a few causes for this behaviour:

    1. Washload not evenly distributed around the walls of the drum, causing major imbalance on spin cycle. This can occur if bedsheets become entangled, or a bathsheet/bathmat/dressing gown or jeans are washed on their own.

    2. Concrete tub weights are working themselves loose! Some machines from various manufacturers, have weights that become slack over time. Some can easily be tightened with a spanner, whilst others might require the attentions of a service engineer, due to the bolts shearing.

    3. Possibility of the drum support frame (‘spider’) working itself loose. Again, engineer is required.

Re: Miele tumble drier won’t run for >5 mins

Are you sure that the vent hose has no sharp bends/kinks in it? This can sometimes cause a poor airflow. Try the machine in a different position, with the vent hose as straight as possible.

Check also that the duct (if it goes through the kitchen wall) is clear of fluff (it can build up!), and that the outlet on the exterior of the house is also clear. Make sure any hinged flaps are able to move freely, and are not blocked by bushes, garden furniture or rubbish bins.

If all the above checks out, get back onto Miele and politely, but firmly insist that the machine is not performing as it should; that you have complained about it before, and that the fault has not been rectified.

I would love to know how you came by the ‘trial detergent’. Did you participate in some localised consumer test? Or are you an employee of a detergent firm?

Re: Bosch Exxcel dishwasher spay arms

Hold on a second… are the dishes coming out clean?
If so, there is nothing to worry about, as some machines do indeed have a switchable valve which diverts water to each arm alternately. The time for each arm is about a couple of minutes, then the valve flips and the other arm starts spraying.

On the other hand, if dishes in one basket come out dirty, then there could indeed be a sticky valve.

I’m sorry, but clothes washed in Ariel powder smell quite different to those washed in the tablets. An I’m not imagining it.

Whether the powder has a greater percentage of cationic surfactants (which apparently hold on to their perfumes better than the other surfactants), or more perfume physically added, it smells overpoweringly floral.

    Normal dosing, in both cases.

    Re: Zanussi buzzing sound

The whistling/warbling/buzzing sound might actually be the main wash-pump motor. A friend of mine has a tabletop Hotpoint (really a Bosch, in disguise), and it sometimes makes a similar sound; usually towards the end of the main wash, when the water is scalding hot.

It might be temperature related, in conjunction with motor vibration.

If the above still applies today, then using a biological detergent in the maintenance wash may be useful, although whether the enzymes will benefit the machine itself (removing grease) is not clear. I would assume that enzymes really only benefit the removal of stains on clothes.

    Carl

Not really applicable – 90C (although it kills the lipases) will melt any fat and it should get emulsified and flushed out in the maintenance washes.

Another benefit though is: The enzymes will also remove grease from the drain. If, like me, your wm outlet is into the “bagpipes” under the sink then that can get clogged up with fat deposits from your washing up. Sprinkle a bit of biological washing powder into the plug-hole every once in a while will ensure that you don’t have to take the pipework all apart and dig out the lard. πŸ™‚

To my knowledge, I believe Procter and Gamble detergents no longer contain amylase, lipase or cellulase enzymes.

Protease is still present, and has been joined by glycosidase.

One question: is Ariel more difficult to rinse out than Persil? I just find more foam towards the end of the rinses at the end of an Ariel wash than with Persil. I do dose properly. πŸ™‚

Quoting myself here (hehe), but I am led to believe that any excess foam/bubbles apparent – it’s only a little – in the drum towards the end of the rinses where no fabric conditioner is used is possibly zeolites (part of the water softener) left over from Ariel.

There is very little foam at the end, and I know the Miele is fine because the Hotpoint and Bosch machines left a little foam at the end, too, with Ariel, although Persil does not do this. I would guess this is because Persil is different.

We use one Ariel tablet and Water plus all the time, as well as not overloading the machine or putting the wrong programmes on. We never use quick wash programmes.

It’s funny you should say that Ariel creates more foam, as I have noticed it too. Too much foam can reduce wash efficiency, and can actually cause some machines to instigate an extra rinse cycle to clear the foam.

Too much foam can cause ‘suds lock’ in some machines, whereby the foam prevents the water level pressure switch from resetting, thus the machine thinks water is still in the drum and activates the drain pump for extended periods.

For this reason, some machines will fail to spin; and in some cases may even abort the programme, leaving sodden, soapy clothes at the end of the cycle.

As for perfumes in detergents, Ariel tablets are fine. But I cannot stand the smell of Ariel powder, or Persil liquid/gel.

Whatever happened to the ‘clean smell’ perfumes of the 1970’s, 80’s & 90’s?

All of a sudden we’ve been inundated with overpowering, floral fragrances which clash with aftershaves and perfumes. And to be perfectly honest, I find the smell quite vile. :eeek:

    Re: Zanussi buzzing sound

My mother and my gran had Zanussi dishwashers where the element was visible; and at certain points in the cycle, the heater element made a distinct buzzing. This was during the mid-1990’s, so might not apply to current Zanussi machines.
