Martin wrote:I can think of the best bait ‘n switch tactic employed all day long in this trade and nationwide too…….these ‘No Call Out’ merchants that’s who.:lesson:
I suppose technically, you’re right!
No Call Out Fee traders are NOT advertising No Call Out Fee for the benefit of the consumer, it’s only to get foot through door in the same way a Supermarket might advertise a washer for £100 that they haven’t got, end result is consumer contact, objective achieved…! So they paint the picture it’s of no or little cost, but leave with a cheque for a lot more than free! (And I’m prepared to bet, that someone will read this has made Mrs Consumer pay for a few non earners)!
That technically, could be seen as up selling, but also Bait & Switch! It also (IMO) contributes towards the devalue of our trade!
I’d like to point out that in NO WAY do I assume all ‘No Call Out Fee’ traders are rouges and also, no Free Callout Traders were harmed in the making this post 8)

BlockedRe: Watchdog bait and switch scam
Weren’t Finance Houses severely reprimanded for this a few years back, in the car trade anyway? I’m sure it was this scam that formed a major part in the FSE Regulations?
I.e… Radio add for local car dealer, offering 0{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Finance etc etc etc, anyway, what they didn’t advertise, was that was based on credit score, so a high number of proposals that were put through to Finance Houses, came back as accepted, but at 4 or 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} Base minimum?
Just something I remember happening a lot when I was selling cars, people would still sign up and have the car, even though they initially came in for the 0{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} deal…
I remember suddenly, this all changed to now offering 0{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}, BUT new terms were introduced by the Finance Houses, like ‘Minimum Deposit 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}’ and ‘Maximum Loan Term’ of 2 years, if the consumer couldn’t fit within these terms, they were normal rated customers so something changed somewhere 😉

BlockedRe: F$@kin’ Repairs@
TBH, I haven’t had a repairs@ job for probably 3 years… HOWEVER, for £20 a month I’d have a go as that would be MASS Gooooooooooogle advertising, might even top the Repaircare’s & 0800’s so for the £20, so if I got 4 or 5 a month, it’d be a good deal for £20…
Ade
*** After thought *** If this isn’t seen favourably, why not do what Yell etc do and give repairers the ‘Option’ of subscribing (By Direct Debit) to Repairs@ at for a better position / Advert?
I.e… 3 of us in CF on Repairs @, if I paid my £20 a month, I get nice header, web link and maybe 2 lines (Just something a bit ‘Fancier’), whereas if the others didn’t want to, they get a standard listing…? That way, you’re still keeping Repairs@ free to repairers if they want free 🙂

BlockedRe: WTA website update
Just to confirm, I’ve now reserved my room a day earlier (Thursday 09/12) so I can spend a few hours with K on the Friday going over all applicable web editing stuff on the Friday before everyone else arrives for the xmas doo.
If no-one has any objections then, I’ll take ownership of web updates etc and be the point of contact for web update enquiries.

Hi Alex…
Today is my ‘Last’ day of contractual obligation to RC 🙂 I have however given RC a further 14 days out of ‘Goodwill’ to set up cover as they have rang and said they are having ‘difficulties’ replacing me!
I’ve made it clear, after the 14 Day goodwill period, I will continue to accept calls if needed, however, these will be accepted on a job by job basis at fully chargeable rates.
I have acted fairly regarding RC, will continue to give a good service untill we part (Whenever that might be) and yes, of course will cover any genuine recalls after parting 🙂
