Finally got to see the machine tonight, how awkward are domestic machines??? Element was fine, behind that I found what appears to be an override/ safety cut-off thermostat, open circuit. Is it the overheat cutout or just simply a normal temp. stat? Also saw something that looked like a microswitch next to the element going into the plastic casing, water probe? Didn’t want to fiddle too much, not sure how much abuse that plastic could take. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated!!

ParticipantRe: PC restore?
I’ve got Norton Internet Security 2006 here, and all the codes for about 7 years of updates. Of course this could only be sent out as a backup as long as you had the original, and you promised not to use the codes written on the disc. That would be naughty!!

There’s a very common problem with Projects around that age where an override/ safety cut-off thermostat burns out. You must isolate the machine from the electricity supply first, then if you remove the bottom panel you’ll see a stainless steel tank on the right hand side, down the left hand side of that, about 3-4 inches from the front edge you’ll see a round brown button stat with two wires connected to it. Sometimes one of the wires burn away. Anyway, if the brown button stat is burnt you’ll need an override stat. There is a way to bridge it to double-check it is the stat, but if you’re not sure what you’re doing I wouldn’t recommend trying it, and it’s such a common fault I’d eat my hat if it wasn’t. Try phoning a local commercial catering equipment company to see if they’ve got one and pop in and see them for it, saves on P&P. To take one of these off you’ll need a small spanner, 5,6 or 7mm, can’t remember right now. Make sure you put it back on properly. It’d be rare for an element on a Project to go so quick, but worth checking with a meter.

Still haven’t had a chance to inspect it yet, but now been told it’s not heating during the cycle, so going straight for the element, stat and wiring. Hoping a tags come off. Does this machine have to get up to temperature before it starts?

ParticipantRe: commercial section
It’s the commercial side I specialise in, and I thought I’d be able to offer more help if there was just one section. I’ll just look through the other forums, feel cheeky having asked for help a couple of times, but not been able to help others yet. I’m sure something will come up.

Just sent an email. Hate not being able to contribute properly, maybe somebody will post one I can help with sometime.
A good company for commercial spares is Caterparts on 01280 845344. If you can get a trade account prices are decent, but the help in finding parts is their strong point, if they haven’t got it on their system they’ll phone around for you. Not sure if they carry Aristarco spares, but they’d find them for you. Not cheap those machine, not the larger ones anyway.

Is there a site like this for commercial appliances? Like Rancilio, Classic, Winterhalter etc.? Or if any of you out there need help on the commercial stuff I’m available at captaincrisps@aol.com (don’t ask about the name, brother-in-law playing funny buggers!!). Think I’d be a load more help on that stuff than the domestic!!!

Thank you very much Penguin, I’d rather have a little knowledge than look like a complete plum. At least if it’s the old fashioned timer I can trace everything easier.
Again,
Cheers,
