ParticipantRe: Odd button type thermostat
Not sure if it’s what you mean, but Hawco do button stats, or what I call a button stat. Round, 10mm or so high, roughly 12mm across. I’ll try and find the codes and see if they have one for 12 degrees tomorrow.

I think Caterkwik supply them, should also supply the parts – 01229 480001. Also ACME are good for refrigeration spares 01254 277999.

ParticipantRe: Customer removed parts? some advice from the wise
Went to a restaurant today where the customer said the machine wasn’t heating. Turned up, turned the machine on, no power. Looked for a switch on the wall- no isolating switch, straight to the 3phase fusesbox. Hmmm. Nothing was earthing so turned the machine on, filled but didn’t heat. Then the customer walked in and sheepishly said ‘Um, you’d better know, one of my customers is an apprentice sparky and he had a look, it went bang and hasn’t worked since, can you find out what he did and repair it?’. Packed tools, turned it off at the fuse box, told him to get an isolating switch fitted on the wall (not by an apprentice), and phone us back when it’s all in place. Like you’ve said, you just don’t know what they’ve done. When it’s all ready for us I’ll send a couple of boys down with a quote for a full days work to go through everything bit by bit, only way to ensure it’s working fine.

ParticipantI agree with Gegsy, better to leave well alone if you’re not CORGI just incase something does go wrong, all I was trying to do was answer Andy2’s question by saying was it is legal to work on the electric side, but unwise to do so.

ParticipantRe: Dual fuel appliances & Corgi
We’ve got engineers who are not CORGI registered and we have asked CORGI themselves for information regarding this. They have confirmed that as long as no gas line in broken then you can work on it. In my opinion though, you can still make the appliance unsafe by fiddling with the electrics on it, but if CORGI say it’s ok, then it’s ok.

ParticipantRe: Freezer that will work in my garage!.
Have you thought about a cheap commercial? Try Valera on 0845 270 4321 or Interlevin on 01332 850090. I know a lot of commercial customers of ours keep units in sheds/garages/outbuildings etc, but I guess it’s down to the price.

ParticipantRe: Worktop melting!!!!
I thin kit’s supposed to be like that. If you look at the pattern on the top, edge and where it’s ‘run’ down, there doesn’t appear to be any stretching. There is no discolouration near the cooker and the drips are perfectly formed. If they were to drip, surely there would be evidence of the journey it’s taken above the drip emminating from the top.
That’s just my opinion though.

ParticipantRe: Seen it all?
A seal isn’t sitting right, but when the machine heats up properly something expands to make the seal good?
Thier watse pipe is frozen/blocked and the water from the first wash deforsts/unblocks it?
Last guess is it’s nothing to do with the machine, when they set the first wash they make a cup of tea, filling the kettle in the sink next to the machine and the waste is leaking from there?

ParticipantRe: commercial appliances
Hi, I’ve searched the site and it was quite some time ago that you asked about commercial appliances, I’ve searched my private messages and there’s nothing listed from you. If you need help please don’t hesitate to ask.

ParticipantRe: DHL and Their Lifestyle Couriers Grrrrr?
My local City Link driver does what he pleases. Arranged for important parcels to be delivered to my house and stayed in with paperwork all day, the driver (so many choice words I could have used) decided that because I’m not normally there during the day he wouldn’t bother trying. 1730 that evening he turns up at my work saying he’d tried my house a few times with no success so took it upon himself to take it there, where he just happened to have another drop. Day wasted and found out the driver is a lieing runt. Still gets me angry when I think about it. He even had the cheek to tell the people in work when they told him I’d stayed in all day that I must have been asleep because I look like the lazy sort!!! He won’t look me in the eyes. Best courrieers we’ve got are Parcel Force to be honest, always before 10 with us.

ParticipantRe: WPL K40 ice machine
I’d better add, but I’m sure you’re fully aware of this, that you’d better be sure it is the evaporator assembly before changing it as it’s quite an expensive repair.

ACME refrigeration 01254 277955, can’t think of the part number right now, but when I’m back in on Monday I’ll look at the diagrams for you. They should be able to work it out for you just by the description.

ParticipantRe: WPL K40 ice machine
We just replaced them, far easier, they normally start leaking in the most awkward of places so far easier just to replace. More expensive repair but you save a lot of time and you then know for sure that’s it’s done properly.

Underneath the freezing plate in the middle. Had 2-3 in the last couple of years, not exactly common but worth a look.
