    Re: Inlet taps

I think the problem is the price, if a member of the public asks a plumber to fit a valve then he’ll quote a price and probably fit the cheapest valve he can get, but if the homeowner himself fits it they tend to be slightly better quality. It really is a pain when it happens though, you can usually turn them off when the plastic breaks by using pliers or similar. As I work mainly in commercial premises, I always inform the customer that next time we’re called out, if the valve hasn’t been changed, or he doesn’t allow us to fit a new valve, we’ll have to turn the water off at his stopcock to repair his machine which would in tuen isolate his whole building. They normally get a ‘mate’ round to change it when told this.

One thing that annoys me is boxed in appliances with the isolating swith for the electricity behind the machine, and thinking about it, when the water valves are behind the machine as well when there’s water gushing everywhere.

    Re: Seat Inca van

They do have power assisted steering, but it’s not worth writing home about. I went from a Vauxhall Combi with no power steering to the Berlingo which had a little power assisted steering, to a Renault Kangoo with lighter steering again to a Galant estate which has more assistance again. I guess it seemed heavy to me because I was used to my cars having lighter steering and my subsequent company vehicles having lighter steering. It was still a cracking drive and quite enjoyable. Fantastic handling on the backroads.

I had a Berlingo couple of years ago, my word it shifted, 1.9D. Then one of the new boys took it over when I moved onto a Galant estate. Fantastic handling, the top end is restricted but we got over this by adjusting the accelerator cable. Had a few faults, the keypad for the immobilisor was a bit touch and go after a couple of years, fuel pipes leaked now and again, but in general good old workhorse. Could carry quite a bit of equipment s well, easily fit 2 commercial 6 burner ranges in it and have room for tools etc. Steering was heavy on it though. All in all a good van.

I know this is late, but may be useful for future reference, the K40 should have 220g of R134a in it.

    Re: Live hood??

Another wierd electrical problem is on Project or ‘Prodis’ glass and dishwashers, the rubber, yes RUBBER, hoses inside the machine are conductive!!!! Must be something in them, caught one of our engineers/technicians a cracker. He tested the hoses with 3 different testers because he couldn’t believe it.

Thinking about it, it should say on the back panel. That’s assuming nobody’s removed it!!!

R134a? The K20 takes 170g of R134a (did one yesterday), and the K40 is very similar. I’ll be able to let you know tomorrow, but it won’t be much more than 170g if more at all.

    Re: Classic Hydro 750

I only keep the wiring diagrams and basic parts diagrams at home, but quite useful. If you PM me your email address I’ll email them in PDF. Any other commercial stuff is only a click away (hopefully).

I thought Classic (Winterhalter) were 0870 2247286, but worth getting the part number from them and contacting Caterparts (Maidaid) on 01280 845344. I’ve got the spare parts list here somewhere if you want it emailed, will be out until 10ish though.

    Re: AMANA spare parts?

Don’t say you’ve got a diagram? I’ve been told the lamp lens is secured with 4 plastic screws, I can only imagine they’ve melted or burnt somehow. And does the door inner include the glass? If you’ve got a diagram you wouldn’t be a darling and email it to me? I’ve noticed you’re from Wales, whereabouts? Sunny south or up north?

    Re: AMANA spare parts?

Lordy, I’m not qute sure, one of the boys has stripped it in the workshop, but I gather it needs among other things, a grease shield (top cover), the bulb lens/cover and plastic screws, the bulb, plastic inner door cover which may include the glass, he started talking about the HV side when I took a call so possible a mag or cap. Ideally want a diagram so we know what’s incuding with each part, for example, is the glass incuded with the inner plastic door ring? Are the lens screws seperate? The microwave is a wreck.

They’re who I/we normally go to. Been waiting since last Friday (and repeated calls) for a spare parts diagram from them.

    Thanks for the post though

    Re: A Warning

I was working in a commercial kitchen years ago on a hard-wired 30Amp machine, asked the customer which fuse was for the machine (as none were marked) and he said bugger it, turn the whole lot off, so I turn the main switch off thereby knocking off power to the kitchen ahem!!

Put my hand in the machine and had a little shock, capacitor maybe? Tried again, another tingle, nothing bad, like a little static shock, then BANG. Touched something that knocked me backwards, I turned white and the customer looked at me daft. After a lot of cursing and scratching of head, tested machine and it still had power, told customer and he said ‘Oh yeah, there’s another fuse box in the restaurant, could that help?’. More swearing and cursing under my breath, but was very lucky.

Just goes to show, you should always check with a meter as well. Only has to happen once.
