Sorry to hear the news mate, All your old work mates at Comet know how dedicated and hard working you are so I know your not pulling a fast one. Heard some really bad reports about your company during the last couple of months. I can put you in touch with a guy who is possibly looking for an experienced white goods engineer in your area mate. He offered me the service managers job before I started with my present company and was after a guy with refrigeration and gas who knows his stuff. He actually uses this site and is friends with KWATT and myself on LINKDIN

When I worked for Comet, I was sent out to quite a few to assess the damage caused by the exploding Candy drums. Posted a few good shots. When the drum splits, the force is strong enough to slice the weight bolts in half. everyone I inspected had the same problem, the seam on the inner drum had come apart on a fast spin and sliced the outer tub. I spoke to an old design colleague in Milan (I worked for Candy until 2001 on research and development and worked in Brugherio in Italy). He told me that the drum design was under investigation but couldn’t give too much away.

This whole situation stinks. Old boy network is right. The average redundancy package will be 4,000 to 6,000 for ten years hard work. Like the engineers, most will be too scared to wait , and jump ship as they have bills to pay.
The following was taken off the EX COMET FACEBOOK GROUP set up by the engineers, printed in the tabloids
“Because OpCapita took on Cometβs Β£150million debt when buying it a year ago, they are the lead creditor.
This means they stand to trouser most of the cash raised by administrators”.
Nice little Christmas box for Claire and his backstabbing scumbag mates.

ParticipantRe: CURRYS KNOW HOW
Looks like they are going down the Comet route of committing suicide. The fixed price repair would work for the likes of repaircare but for Knowhow, they will shoot themselves in the foot. Comet had a dedicated, experienced service organisation with a massive backup of spares built up over a large number of years. Knowhow have just started playing with it. Actually feel sorry for them, well, the engineers anyway. :rolls:

Agree with Squadman. I could never fit the bloody things so modified a pair of bent long nosed pliers or fitted Zanussi spring type clamps

No sorry mate. I passed all the tests and was shortlisted but found out the local manager was overruled by a higher up boss and they took an ex BG engineer (Lee) on instead. ironically, I then got his job from his last company, and his mobile number. Keep getting inundated with local small repair businesses leaving messages on his voicemail asking him to go out and do jobs for them as they can’t program modules . They did take a couple of my engineers on in the Manchester area and was surprised who they employed. I’m just wondering how long they will last π

Repaircare are covering Comets own brand white goods. All known manufactured brands , 1st year, IMC/AON Policy and D&G have been given to the manufacturers. That’s why they have been recruiting engineers to handle all the extra work. On average, each old service centre at Comet had around 15 white goods engineers, each doing around 11 jobs a day , that’s a lot of work to hand back as I think we had about 320+ engineers.
The good news for my old service centre was that, apart from one guy retiring, every engineer found work with a manufacturer πwhiskey_six

Well, tomorrow will be the last day for the remaining Comet engineers. The work stopped on Friday and the lads are now leaving daily. I’m off tomorrow and will turn the light off. Out of 322 engineers, two will remain at the Skelmersdale distribution centre screening appliances that have been returned. The end of an era for most as a lot were ex NORWEB / MANWEB engineers nearing retirement. May I wish all the engineers good wishes and hope they find a company that doesn’t crap on them from a great height like the new owners have done. π― Everyone received their P45’s the other day and that was it, no letter of thanks for all the years of hard work, nothing at all. π‘

Also check that the fan blade doesn’t jam up after 10 minutes. A very common problem that will cause the TOC to trip. The fan will work fine for a bit then you can hear a slight scraping noise as the blade starts to touch the heater box, then it just stops, overheats and trips. When the engineer goes out, it’s all cooled down and nice and free

Neil is a top bloke and a brilliant engineer. He was a Field Team Manager with me at Comet but he was based in Wolverhampton and I was further North. You couldn’t wish for a better boss.
