ParticipantRe: cow gone
I suffer the same problem with the dishwasher. I always complain when I unload the thing after my son, daughter or better half have loaded it and find the spray arms have been catching.
I have been informed that this is now my main task as I am the expert in the kitchen so it’s my job to deal with the dishwasher, washing machine and dryer due to the fact they use them incorrectly. Should have kept my mouth shut !whiskey_six

ParticipantRe: Prima LPR 100/1
If you pm me a normal email address I can send you the PDF files for that one mate. The part number for the top flap cover is a whirlpool part number 481944278102, I’m not sure of the other bits, you would have to look at the diagram as there are a few showing in that area

ParticipantRe: British Gas Trade Test
They did interview a few but the ones they interviewed didn’t want to stay with Comet for another 3 months for the redundancy money and went to Hotpoint and Hoover early. We got asked to send our CV’s into a list of companies, BG being one of them. Our HR dept sent us a list of companies around the UK that would be looking for White Goods engineers so it was up to the individual, which one he applied for. The lads with 12 years or more service go on the 31st July, that’s the final day for everyone. The first guys start to leave the week after next, then more each week ( ie 5 years service, 5 weeks notice, 7 years, 7 weeks etc) until we finally close.

No Mate, BG approached us. I know about the contract, my guys are still snowed under with work with 11 jobs a day and I have 11 white Goods guys covering Merseyside and local North Wales . As far as I know, I’m the only Comet engineer looking at the Wirral. I’ve got one of my Manchester Engineers doing his assessment next week for the North Manchester area. I’m the area manager at the moment but only been off the tools for 6 months.

Hi Dave,
Yes, the Wirral. Used to work with Keith Mc and Alan B. I work with Alan’s missus here at Comet at the moment in Skelmersdale.whiskey_six
ParticipantRe: British Gas Trade Test
Thanks for the replies. The area I’m going for is in the North West and I know a couple of ex Comet lads who went to BG about 6 years ago who cover Merseyside that I used to work with. I worked for Candy for 16 years specialising in refrigeration (was not a service engineer at the time but a design and developement engineer working in the UK and Italy in the Brugherio plant) and been with Comet 11 years, the last 5 as senior engineer. Do everything, w/m, dryers cookers, refrigeration, elec cookers, gas cookers (NG and LPG, D/W so hopefully I should be OK.
Many Thanks againwhiskey_six
ParticipantRe: Conventional tumble dryers to cease?
Heard the same with Electrolux group about 8 months ago. I still think you will see conventional dryers for many years to come but some of the major players are putting more and more research into R134a Compressor type dryers.

ParticipantRe: CURRYS KNOW HOW
All been having a laugh at the Daily Mirror today. They must be sponsored by Dixons group as it says all Comet engineers are knocking on their door looking for jobs and they are going to be the best. DON’T THINK SO. Have now spoken to nearly 100 Comet engineers and they all say the same thing. Knowhow are a joke.

ParticipantRe: CURRYS KNOW HOW
Very true, same goes for the managers positions as well. I know 4 Comet managers went for them, 3 walked out and one didn’t even turn up. As for the engineers, probably been about 20 Comet guys gone for interviews but none excepted. They all went to the manufacturers instead

Couple of our lads have been offered jobs but have turned them down. You do get a small van ( not the 7 1/2 ton one that was first broadcast), have to go into the depot for your parts, circa £20,000 and lots of Saturdays involved.

Anyone know who “HIRE ME KNOW” are. I believe they are doing work for Beko !

ParticipantRe: panasonic washing machines
Just wait till you try to do a motor change on your own on a Turkish made one !!! It’s certainly not a 5 min job. The cabinet is a solid back, and the lugs for the motor are splayed out worse than the Beko. Just try and get the new motor back on them. We had a training course on them. What a nightmare

ParticipantRe: Any Engineer looking for work in the North West?
Hi Burns, some of the Comet engineer’s are going out on their own doing franchise work for various manufacturers and maybe interested in doing additional work. I will point them to your post tomorrow.
