Many thanks. I will try to get the fan motor out as there may well be manufacturer info on it as I am sure it will be a generic item.

    Re: Hotpoint VTD00

My VTD00 has made metallic noises from the back, since it was new, whenever it is run on high heat. An engineer came out in the guarantee period and “fixed it” – saying that the drum was rubbing against the back when it was hot. It sounds as though a proper mod should have been done.

I have recently found that the noise happens on low heat and it does seem as though the machine is very hot when working as if a thermostat is not working. I know that thermostats normally fail in open mode but maybe this has failed the other way. The higher temp would be consistent with the noise now. Can you advise which thermostat I might need as it is probably worth changing it to see if this cures the heat problem. I might also install the bearing mod if you can advise the part etc.

Many thanks as always for your help.

Many thanks I will do a check. Looks like I can just about get to the screws holding the selector switch after taking the knob off, without having to take out the whole white panel. No big deal anyway, but I am sure that amateurs like me, end up taking too much apart as they don’t know the shortcuts!. A job for the weekend!

Many thanks for the helpful tip Yes I will certainly check this out. Almost looked at it last night, but thought there wouldn’t be a problem there.

    Re: Delonghi ESS601W Oven Dead

Many Thanks helo_75. I was expecting it to be in the oven rather than the cavity above the oven, so your guidance was very useful

I checked the safety thermostat with a multimeter but it appears to be closed circuit so looks like this is working OK. The only other component in the circuit is the Oven function selector, so that must be the problem. I will get it out to check it. Need to make myself a wiring diagram of the cooker so that I can confirm with the multimeter to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain.

I now need to check whether I can get this from the Uk Whitegoods shop.

    Many Thanks

    Re: Bosch SGS3042GB/01 problem

Thanks for the inpuit everyone. I have been away a week so only just managed to look at the machine again.

I cleaned out the pressure vessel and out everything back. Unfortunately still leaking after machine starts filling. Heard a dripping sound after switched machine off. After taking off RHS panel and using a mirror I identified that the leak appears to be coming from somewhere behind the heater – ie in about the centre of the machine. Quite a substantial leak. Unfortunately I can’t see exactly where it is leaking from. It could be the pipe from the water matrix to the sump or the connections on the heater. The only thing I noticed in the mirror was that there was a little plastic stud (few mm diameter) which wasn’t exactly lined up with a hole in the (heater ?) . The stud looked as though it has a rough hole in the centre suggesting that a scrw might have been fitted. I couldn’t see a screw anywhere and couldn’t push the heater at all.

It looks like a major strip down as the machine has a one piece plastic base, so this will have to be removed to get access. Are there any tips on doing this as I enjoy a DIY challenge ? Is it likely to be an economic repair for a 9 year old machine if I have to call somebody in?

    Many thanks

    Re: Bosch SGS3042GB/01 problem

    Many thanks.

Yes, I managed to dismantle the machine and found the base flooded. Cleared water out Ok and float switch reset.

I looked for blockages in any of the pipes. There was a little debris in the pipe from the pressure chamber (not sure if have right name – near the front of the machine on the LHS with the level switch) to the sump so cleaned this out. Not sure if this is the pipe that normally blocks and gives problems. Looked like a little crud under the float in the pressure chamber but looked difficult to take apart. Similarly noticed in the water inlet system (name ? – the item with the vertical tubes at the back LHS) that there is a little chamber connected to the vent in the top which looked totally blocked. It looked as though there is a red ball (providing a seal ?) that was crudded up. Similarly, looks like a lot of dismantling to get to it. Wasn’t sure if pipe would be easy to reconnect and appeared to be fixed by a band round the pipe. So I put back together and checked on the pre-rinse program. The machine pumped out for a minute and then water came in and looked to be working as normal. However, water started appearing under the machine so stopped program.

Looks like another strip down to find the leak. Could the possible blocked areas I saw (at the top of the water inlet system and the pressure chamber) be causing the leak?. If so, wasn’t sure where it would be leaking from.

    Any further guidance much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

Re: Whirlpool ARG582 Fridge is freezing stuff

Thanks for the input. I did check with a digital thermometer and temperature was about -1.0 C at top and -3.0 C at bottom. The compressor did seem to be running all the time. I turned down (ie warmer temp) the thermostat (from 3 to 2) and now I seem to have the opposite problem of temperature being too high (7.0 C top and 5.0 C bottom). The compressor does come on sometimes but doesn’t stay on. I have turned the thermostat back to 3 and am monitoring the temp. Seems a little odd as thermostats generally fail one way rather than work inconsistently. Is replacing a thermostat fairly easy – I presume that I will have to take the fridge totally out to get to everything. Many thanks. William

Re: Whirlpool ARG582 Fridge is freezing stuff

I have exactly the same model (5 year old) and the same problem. No problems previously, but suddenly temperate in fridge is very low. I have turned down the thermostat but doesn’t seem to have any effect. Is it worth turning off the fridge, letting it totally warm up and turning on again ? Any suggestions to diagnose the problem would be much appreciated. Many thanks. William

Re: Zanussi TC481W Tumble Dryer not Heating (not thermostat)

I checked the heater and heater thermostats last night – it was much easier to get to than I had realised thanks to the input for here. The resettable thermostat had tripped so I reset it and all appears to be OK now. I can only assume that it tripped due to filters being blocked. I will keep an eye on it in case this was caused by the other heater thermostat not functioning properly and being stuck closed.

If I do need to replace the heater thermostat is it available from Shop@ ?

    Many Thanks again

Re: Zanussi TC481W Tumble Dryer not Heating (not thermostat)

    Many thanks pto and Penguin45.

Sorry to be thick, but is the heating element enclosed in the white plastic ducting joined to the fan (in the bottom RHS lbehind the motor, looking from the back)?. To get to this it looks as though I need to take the back off and take the drum out as it is near the front of the machine. Is there an easier way to get to it ?. I have worked on other Tumble Dryers (non condensing) where the element was just behind the drum, but looking at the parts diagram for this machine, the heater looks like a small box. Are the thermostats on the heating element available as I haven’t seen them on any parts diagrams ?

To clarify, the thermostat I replaced was the one just inside the drum opening at the front (at the top)

    Many thanks.
