I once went to a cooker hood because it wasn’t working.
When I took the filters down, there was not one piece left in the inside of the appliance.
She got a bit upset when I told her “We repair appliances, not renew them.”
    She replied “It’s under warrenty”
I said as I packed up “There is nothing to warrant”

Had a similar one years ago. Went to a no motor call while working at Hotpoint. Took the top off and literally…..no motor. Previous tennant had nicked it :rotfl: .

My customer just happens to be from Bonnie Scotland…..Hock’ aye see here Jimmy and all that good stuff…. 😉

Now there is this rumour that many scots are pretty cannie with their money, this guy puts that myth into reality…. :rolls:

The plugtop had burnt out on his washer-dryer. It just needed another fitting to it to cure the fault. I asked if he had a spare plugtop lying around I could fit? If not I can get one out of the van? He spent the next 5 minutes ferretting around his house looking for one, then turned the garden shed inside out in the fervent hope he’d got one there?….All to no avail…..Meanwhile the clocks ticking and the labour charges are getting more and more expensive as I stand around twiddling my thumbs. 😈

He confesses that he hasn’t got another plug and suggests I take one from the standard lamp in the lounge? I explained that he then wouldn’t have a light in the lounge and that I could simply get a plug out of my van?

He said that that is the best way over the problem and to go ahead and get one!

Bearing in mind I only charge £1, just a measly £1 for a brand new ‘safety plug’. Which I duly fitted in a matter of a few moments. Plugged the machine in and away it went. I pushed the machine back into position and run-tested it again to be sure I hadn’t kinked the hoses or anything…..ALL OK 😀

Meanwhile ‘old haggis breechers’ has had a change of heart, unbeknown to me, and taken the plug off the standard lamp. He then hands it to me and suggests I have it to ‘put back on my van’ so as he figures it, we are even and I don’t have to charge the £1 for my brand new safety plug…? 😯

Now, at this point a grey mist decends over my reasoning his blatant idiotic logic? 😕

The mist quickly clears as far as I was concerned as little did he realise, I have more than adequately covered the cost of a whole box of brand new 13 amp safety plugs in my labour charge….. 😆

He’s got his machine fixed. I’m adequately funded for that job right now thank’s be to Jimmy!

Mind you? It’s very dark in his lounge right now :rotl:

I’ve seen this on a new development where they had communal pipework for the extractor hoods. All the fans had been removed as they weren’t required.

Yep someone at the recent UKW meeting told us of a hood now with the motor and works on the outside of the building (air con style) with ducting leading the the cannopy which is just that, a canopy with no works inside.

I’ve seen a similar thing in a Swedish timber-framed house who’s thermal properties were incredible (1.5kW to heat a four bed house!). The house was so airtight it included an extractor fan in the loft that had to run 24hrs a day just to change the air inside. There were ducts from the extractor down to the toilet and bathroom, and one to the cooker hood which had a simple hit-and-miss flap that opened or closed the duct within the hood.

The only drawback to the house design was that because of the draughtproofing a letterbox wasn’t included…just a post box on the outside wall 😯

At a call today and the customer did what many do and it’s something I’ve never been able to fathom. Heads in the back of her machine and she walks in, balances a brew on the top and walks off. Luckily I’ve only missed it once and covered the last wash load in coffee when I tipped the machine. My how we laughed :rolls: .

What about when the customer phones you and you answer politely as usual only to realise the customer (woman normally :duck: ) is in the middle of a conversation with wee Johnny. Something along the lines of “mummy’s very busy darling , could you go upstairs and wash your face hands and clean your teeth , the toothpaste is in the cupboard under the sink , there’s a good boy”.
Then she turns her attention to me after about 20 seconds and tells me she is in desperate need of having her Indesit washing machine fixed this morning (as she’s busy in the afternoon) , the dial is clicking round and the light’s flashing 8 times :haier:.

Seems pretty rude that she can’t even give me her attention when she’s phoned me :rolls:.Anyway told her I was fully booked for the next fortnight :).

They can talk to whoever they like IMO, just so long as they pay for the work. 😉

I wouldn’t have considered that rude TBH, it happens, kids don’t understand patience. Rude are that ones that come on screaming demands down the phone. 🙁

Its worse when either the kids or a dog, screams or barks just as the customer is leaving their phone number on the answerphone. 😥

Maybe just my bad luck but it always seems to be the ex directory ones as well. 👿

It is when the kiddie answers the phone & you ask if Mum is there.

Then right in your ear……. MUUUUM! THERE’S SOMEONE ON THE PHONE!

Most annoying things customers do? ………NOT LISTEN

It amazes me how often you have a conversation with customers and it goes straight in one ear and out the other ➡ 😕 ➡

Walked into a house yesterday, customer complaint Zanussi washer won’t get up to full speed on spin, first thing I noticed was the variable spin control was set at 600. 😕 I wish I had never asked her the next question, “do you know that the spin selector is set at 600?”
She proceeded to give me her life story on how she does the washing, which programme, which powder, how she turns the taps on, the cats operation etc.etc FIVE minuets she ranted on 😡 did she answer my question. NO so I asked her again (only time I could get a word in) and she went off on a tangent again 😡 At this stage the husband walks in after overhearing the conversation and cops her a earfull for not answering my question. 😆 What question she replied. :rotl:
Go and make him a cup of tea he tells her 🙂 Just give the machine a service and check it over he says and I’ll pay your bill!!!!!!!!

1st call today Smeg A42 range blows trip when clock set .
    I knock on door
1st thing he does when answering is looks at his watch.
then he asks me do I have a clock with me as Smeg have told him it’s the clock ,And he’s not paying another callout charge if I can’t be @r$ed to hold a clock on my van.
followed by “why I am taking the back of and checking the fan oven element when he has already told me it’s the clock!”Cause he was an engineer once you know :rolls:
To which I replied it’s not likely to be the clock ,his response “well what else could it be then”
I don’t know what nmade me check it but the fan mtr was dead short to earth -result ,I then fitted a knew one during which time he strangely said nowt.

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

Friday nearly gave me a Corona. 🙂
Hotpoint BWM intedrated washer, doing the back feet balance with head underneath to check the brushes, she decides to give the side of it a clean. Swift exit from underneath and a bit of verbal and she STILL wants to clean it. ‘I couldn’t let you see it the state it was in’ :con:
The second one I’ve got the top off a Hoover W/D checking the fan/ valve operation with the customer at the other side of the kitchen watching. Next thing she pushes past me and sticks her hand inside saying I think its warming up :eeek: .
WTF!!!! She seemed a bit put out that i manhandled her swiftly away from the machine. After the possible consequences were explained she said Its ok, I was just curious. Funny, many a dead cat has muttered those words!
