just had one of the worst…retired chap living in a mobile home asks me to look at his neff oven..fan works no heat…ok element..small kitchen and he stands there giving me advise on how to do the job,…eg, you have to take the back plate off..ok..why have you switched it off..it won’t work you know…grrrrrr. had element replaced not long ago…oh really ..i’ll find the invoice….28th may 2002..oh i didn’t think it was that long…are you sure its the element…grrrrrr yes il put a meter on it for you..well it looks all right…well it isn’t and so on and so on.. ok its fine now…oh while your here could you install this washing machine….advise again..take the transit bolts off… 👿 it’s only cold fill …yes i noticed that ..etc etc….. 👿 👿 👿

chris…as i’m getting to be a grumpier old man …once a day is enough..maybe once a week will be enogh in a couple of years time..however i did leave him with less in his wallet so on reflection it was a good result…for me dosh for him oven and w/m working 😉

had that a while ago…why can’t you come now? cause i’m booked full until tomorrow..thats no good, i’ll get someone else…ok said i, call me back if you can’t get anyone 😈 2 hours later…he calls me…when can you come tomorrow….not till late said i booked till 4pm 😈 ok says he… 😀 😀

This morning I fished a sock from a Bosch sump hose. The lady paid up after our little chat whilst downing the dregs of my cuppa. I bid her farewell and went to the van. Sat there a moment or two to suss out where I was going next, then fired up the flying toolbox and pulled away. 8)
Checking my rearview mirror I saw my customer standing on the pavement waving frantically at me to come back. I hit reverse and wound down the window.
“What’s up? I asked…………
“I was just wondering…… did you check the machine to see if it works?” she asked. :rolls: :rolls:

Elderly lady customer phones me this afternoon in a right 2 and 8 she was…
“Please can you come now and stop my washing machine?”
“What’s the panic?”
“My kitchens flooded out and I can’t see to stop the machine, there’s foam and bubbles everywhere coming under the dining room door!”
“Bloody Hell, are you local to me?”
“Yes I live in Tadley, please can you come now?…..my address is…..”
“OK I’ll get my waders on and be with you in about 15 mins..!”When I get there the neighbours have got involved and are helping the the old lady mop up. A hell of a lot of water and foam on the entire ground floor, never mind the kitchen. :rolls:
Someone managed to locate the power switch and turned off the errant machine. A state of ‘calmed anguish’ surrounded me by the many onlookers as I delved into the likely problem?
I dared not get my camera out and take picctures as the elderly lady was very distressed to say the least and the neighbours might have objected anyway?
Needless to say I got to the bottom of the problem as it was a clear cut case of ‘oversudsing’ and half a dozen rinses sorted it! But when ‘gently’ interrogating my little old lady customer as to what she did? She pointed to a bottle on the kitchen windowsill…..
“My son in law gave me this to try in my machine, he swears by it and I only poured a little bit of it in the dispenser, next thing I know there’s all this foam coming under the dining room door!”
And she handed me a bottle of this :-

Had a similar job this week.
Butcher shop in a nearby village calls in with washing machine flooded right through the back room.
Checked out the machine,nothing obvious so asked the question “which powder are you using?”
“Oh well we nomally use Persil but we ran out and put in a cupfull of Deepio instead.”A CUPFULL!!!
Can you imagine the mess 😆

call today…easy 🙂 fit customer aquired door seal!!! :rolls: he says it’s definately the right one cos i’ve checked :rolls: was it the right one….NO. would it fit NO…got bag it came in… no mention on the label of the model i was dealing with! upshot is customer asked me to get the right seal and come back and fit.
now, i don’t like to fit parts aquired by customers, there is a profit in parts and i have lost out…i could add a bit to the labour charge to make up this loss….what do you guys think/do when in a similar position?

You pull out a W/Machine / Dishwasher or whatever and carry out a repair. When it’s out, (after it’s been out for 30 mins already) customers always say….. “can you stay there a sec, I just need to clean behind there” 😡 …. of they go, come back armed with all sorts of cleaning materials and away they go. 10 mins later, “there we are, you can put it back now” 😡
Usually that is OK, and none of us probably mind, but once, I had a cooker to repair……….Freestanding cooker, eye level grill, blue kitchen. Pulled cooker out, changed FSD (took about 20mins), as about to put back in, cust asked….. do you mind if you hang on a sec…. I reply “go on then (thinking the cleaning materials are coming) and all of a sudden, she was laying newspaper on the floor behind the cooker 😕 I looked behind the cooker and spotted that yellow bit of wall that resembles the shape of a cooker 😯 Uh Oh… and yep, in she came with a tin of blue paint!
20 Mins later, I find myself washing paint from my hands just so I could re-connect the cooker and leave that day!!

Fitted a set of brushes to a Hotpoint WM?? and tested and all was perfect.
Got called back within the hour because the machine would not work at all and she said I had made it worse.
Turns out the silly bint does not use the on/off button but turns it off by the spur above the worktop and after I tested it I turned off by the on/off switch.
