I went to an Indesit t/dryer back in August, I fixed the machine but the customer asked if I could possibly supply her with a new Lint Filter as her old one was a bit tatty?
As I had no idea of the cost of one of these at that time I couldn’t charge her for it there and then. I guesstimated it would possibly cost around a tenner for me to supply one? She said that that would be OK no matter what the cost as its important that she gets it replaced.
I ordered the part and a couple of weeks later dropped it off at her house (left it with her daughter in fact) and asked that her mum pop a cheque in the post to me?
3 months later………….. :rolls: :rolls:
….the postman leaves a jiffy bag by my back door….inside was the unopened Lint Filter and a letter from my ‘customer’ :rolls:
Part of it reads……
“I return the part to you together with a cheque for £11.50 to cover the cost. Shortly after you called to fix my tumble drier it went wrong again. We decided to buy a new one so therefore we don’t need this part and I always thought the supplier should show goodwill towards the customer and if you can return my cheque I would be very grateful as I’m out of work at the moment”.December 5, 2007 at 10:10 pm #107520kiddo66

Got called to a new Cannon cooker today ignition clicking constantly (no it does happen 😉 )Walked into house and cooker was standing in tthe hallway not connected”oh we made him take it out again cos it was driving us mad” right so i swap the cookers over and before connecting it i decide to follow company instruction and test earth resistance.
I find that the polarity is reversed in the socket 😯 hence the clicking from the spark gen,I have had one do the same before and that house was the same (just been rewired and some numpty crossed the main tails.
I inform the customer of my findings thinking she will be eternally gratefull to me for spotting a potential catastrophe for her :rolls: Oh how wrong could i be”well it didnt do this with the old cooker”yes i know but”maybe the shop will just give me my money back”but there is nowt wrong with the cooker you need your electrics sorted.
Anyway i set off down the road an hor or so later i have the dealer on the phone who has just had the customers son on to him.I explain the problem and the dealer is happy enough.
An hour later the dealer is back on “the customer has had an “electrician” check the socket and it is ok.
I explain again that the socket might appear to be wired right but if he would care to lick his finger and stick it on the neutral wire then he will get a belt,by now i am getting a bit ratty especially when the “electrician”suggested swapping the wires in the socket just to make that one ok 😯 😯 😯 😯 😯
The phrase head brick wall and bang all spring to mindDecember 5, 2007 at 10:17 pm #107521helo_75
ParticipantProbably the same ‘electrician’ who installed an indesit built under double oven cooker with a 2 core vacuum cleaner flex, complete with 5amp fuse!
‘it keeps blowing fuses’
‘cant do that sir, needs to be wired up properly’
‘an electrician did that!’
‘can i see the receipt please?’
‘now then, where did the wife put it, maybe she took it to work with her’needless to say i removed said cable, and after a constructive conversation regarding safety , i left
of course, 30 minutes in, hes in the store kicking off, wanting a replacement
i got him on the line, and said there would be a bill in the post if he carried on
and no, he didnt get his money back
evidentally, he’d done it himself… will people EVER learn?

One of the funniest and annoying thing’s customers do is after you complete a repair is, as they hand over the cheque they say “oh while you are here can you have a quick look at **** ”
I think the mentality is I’ve paid him now so he won’t charge me again :rolls: yeah right 😉December 6, 2007 at 1:27 pm #107525Goatboy

Indeed 😕
On Monday (after customer has just paid me) I got…
“Do you have a drill?”
“Yup, why?”
“Coz I’ve been wanting to put these shelves up for ages…”
You couldn’t make it up :rolls:

A few years back, just as I was leaving, I had a customer ask me “you couldn’t tighten my toilet seat for me before you go?”
As she was an old lady (even worse 😯 ) I went and sorted it for her.I told this story to a friend of mine and every time I see him he asks “how many bog seats have you fixed this week then” 😆

Had one on the phone today, a topper, who didn’t much like my comments regarding his Servis machine, Ill explain…
He phoned up looking for a number to get a hold of Antonio Merloni in Italy so that he could phone up and demand a replacement.
Okay so I’m thinking, “what’s the craic here?”.
So I start to quiz this dude and it turn out (don’t all fall about laughing now) that he bought it from B&Q last December and it broke down at 5-6 months old, again at 8 months and is broken again with at least two different faults.
Apparently Servis UK don’t want to know and B&Q don’t want to know about his demands for a replacement.
After I explained to him that he isn’t entitled to a replacement automatically and that it is at the discretion of the retailer and/or manufacturer he calmed down as he got it. This is the bafflign part, if he got it that quick he’s obviously reasonably intelligent so, I have to ask, what’s he doing in B&Q buying a pile of landfill?
But, me being me, I just couldn’t resist the comment he he got which was (quite literally) along the lines of…
“All these cheap machines are the same and you get the customer service you pay for, if you paid about £130 for a cr4p Servis washer from a cr4p retailer that knows bog all about appliances then really, what do you expect will happen when it all goes wrong?”
I think he’s off to find the local ISE dealer… 😆
The annoying thing is, he and I both know that he should have known better and now expects premium service from a bargain product, which ain’t gonna happen.

Cows are far far worse than goats. :rolls:
I went to one today in fact and (I agree) rarely do you find a cow in a posh studio flat but there you go I got lucky I guess? This one didn’t moooo but she made up for in moooooaaaaaning! 🙁
“Be careful with my floor won’t you?”…….”Please let me empty the cupboard, I don’t want anything broken!”…..”You’ve left some screws on the floor!” (I was in the middle of fixing it at that point)……“The outer door fitted perfectly before you touched it!”( I was busy levelling the front feet to align the m/c at the time)…...”Is there some sort of a guarantee with the work you’ve done?”…(Yeah right – I will rush back should anything else go wrong…. :rolls: )

Sometimes it the things they say, went to a customer today for the first time in several years, “glad to see you are still around” says she, “I’m quite chuffed about that as well” says I. 8)

After all Jim when you get to our age, every waking day is a bonus, let’s face it. :rotl:
Oh! By the way, last month we (the old slag and I) got our £200 winter fuel allowance paid into our Swiss bank accounts. 😀
And today (believe it or not?) was the day I went along to the village hall to collect out local councils ‘travel tokens’ all £106 of them….very handy for rail trips to the seaside (£53 per old duffer)…….I really don’t need a bus pass when I can still drive my limo without too much bother, so travel tokens are the best option right now. 8)
Though I am thinking I might apply for us to have a Blue Badge…….my arthritis complaint may just swing it for me?…(Must see my GP to get him to tick a few boxes on the application form 😈 )
Just livin’ the dream after all….. 😉
