I had a beaut today where the bloke got a pump from UKW and tried to fit it himself having been given instructions on how to take off the front panel to access it. :rolls:

In getting the front panel off he’d taken the door off, wrenched the leads out of the interlock and then left the pump dangling loose in the base at the point where he gave up and googled me up…..lucky me.:rolls:

To my less than surprised horror to find he hadn’t even switched the fuffin’ machine off! 😯

You get that too huh? I thought it was only me that had folks asking. For years I thought it was that my cordless phone had some sort of delay before you could speak?

I have a call reader facility on it and on those calls I see marked “International Call” I pick up the phone and say “Guard Room, Buckingham Palace, Duty Sergeant Smithers speaking….” And they say…”Is that Enterprise Service?”

😕 😕 😕I have been known to say, “Bannana bending factory, chief bender here how can I help?” :rotl: suprisingly very few pick up on it cos they don’t listen 😕

You rack your brains as to where and when you last used it? Then go back to the office to search your customer database and search all those jobs where you remember using a Loop Tester? Then phone the last 4 potential customer in the hope they’ve got it? 😕

At last one of then says she spotted it on the worktop shortly after I left, thought it belonged to her husband and put it safely in the garage. 😯

I ‘lost’ my meter last week, rang the two calls I suspected as being the Lady place I remembered having it, one in a large shed, the other in a garage. Neither of them found it. 😥

Got back from the UKWG’s meeting, checked the answerphone. Amounts all the service calls was one from a woman saying that I had repaired her old mum’s washer last week. She went round to check on her as the old dear has Alzheimer’s, opened a cupboard door to find my meter safely stored away. Her mum had no recollection of putting it there.

Nice to know there are still some honest punters around.

Call to a customer to find the dead dryer is due to the socket on the wall
    playing up.

Luckily for him he had an electrician coming out that afternoon.

I give him my bill for £18 plus MPs expenses. (My minimum charge)

He says ‘ Whats your best price for cash? ‘

    😯

Remember, always carry a selection of wall sockets and fuseable outlets on your van, they’re always needed after all said a done.

Then it’s cash @ £45 plus the cost of the new outlet point……job’s a good un! 8)

    Thanks Martin.

No need for me to get involved once he told me that.

Why pay me £45 when the electrician can do it, I know electricians can
be expensive but I’m sure he wouldn’t charge £27 labour per socket he changed.

Thank you for your words of wisdom.

I’d check your third party liabilty insurance very carefully before getting into that sort of stuff. Mine says “household appliances only”. When I checked with them, I’m not covered for minor plumbing or electrical work.

This is interesting. What specific exclusions have they defined within your policy then Chris?

I have to say I’ve since checked my policy and there are no such exclusions toward plumbing or electrical work apart from the the exception of interference with underground pipework and cables.

The definition of a domestic appliance service engineers working environment includes the need to access and repair both plumbing and electrical connections. That suitable precautions are always in place during such work especially with regard to fire risk resulting from sparks from cutting equipment and blowtorches. In the latter case many insurers insist on at least 2 serviceable fire extinguishers being accessible during the time that type of equipment is being used.

If I couldn’t change a burnt out 13amp plug and wall socket without being liable I think I would change my PL insurers TBH.

I was under the impression that you had to be registered for Part P to change socket outlets, or am I wrong? Haven’t yet checked whether my liability policy allows it .

With regards Part P you CAN change a socket without being Part P registered, you just cant MOVE it then replace it! 😉

    Jazz!
