Last year I had to go to a problem call where 5 or 6 engineers had been yet not found or fixed the fault.
I went along found the said fault and then spent the next 90 minutes fixing it customer signed paperwork and I left what I thought was a happy customer.
The office then rang up her as part of our customer survey and she complained that I had been in the house to long fixing her machine, when asked if the she was now happy with the repair she said YES ❓ ❓
If only you could do this job without the general public, what a fab job we would all have. 😈

When I answer the phone I say, “Hello, Phils Domestics”.
Despite this, probably more than 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of customers reply saying “Is that Phils Domestics?”. I think I might start saying some invented business name like “Goatbusters Abattoir” to see if anyone notices 😆February 14, 2009 at 8:15 am #107641Martin

For years I thought it was that my cordless phone had some sort of delay before you could speak?
I have a call reader facility on it and on those calls I see marked “International Call” I pick up the phone and say “Guard Room, Buckingham Palace, Duty Sergeant Smithers speaking….” And they say…”Is that Enterprise Service?”
😕 😕 😕

No, it’s the ones that ring and say ‘do you remember me, you fixed my washer 3 years ago’………… and they haven’t even given you their name yet!! 😯

….when you realise your £400 Loop Tester isn’t in the van. 😥
You rack your brains as to where and when you last used it? Then go back to the office to search your customer database and search all those jobs where you remember using a Loop Tester? Then phone the last 4 potential customer in the hope they’ve got it? 😕
At last one of then says she spotted it on the worktop shortly after I left, thought it belonged to her husband and put it safely in the garage. 😯

Girl once rang me and asked how much to fit a door seal to a Zanussi, saying that they had bought the seal themselves 👿
Ok it will be so much says I, when can you do it and how long will it take to fit, 10mins I reply. 10 mins, are you sure? YES
So I turns up to find the old door seal removed, first thing she says is my Dad spent eight hours trying to fit the new one and I have to ring him so he can see how you fit it :rolls: :rotl:
Guess what my reply was to the dimwit , answers on a postcard please 😆February 19, 2009 at 8:01 am #107647grazzamongrel

grahamWhat would happen if you went out for a meal to a restaurant and you took your own bottle of wine and put it on the table

so the bottom line is that if the customer buys the parts and wants them fitting we should tell them to sling their hook?! surely a job is a job whether you supply the parts or not, you still make the labour charge out of them and dont have to offer any sort of guarantee…..sorted 😀

Yes, if they supply the parts you can always charge a bit extra on your labour….. If you are lucky they may even get the correct part.
I went back to an Indesit WIDL washer dryer the other day. This job has been ongoing for several months but the house is a holiday home so appliance is not essential for regular use. When I first went I found the main module was badly burned and had also damaged the section of wiring for the dryer motor, NTC and valve. I advised the customer that it would be cheaper to get Merloni to do the job as the machine was covered by the parts warranty. I heard nothing for ages but then got a call from the customer to say she had ordered the new board herself and could I go back to fit it. I was a bit dismayed at this, thinking about Smart Card readers etc etc. I explained that it not only needed the board but also the partial wiring harness, which is only available on special order. It was agreed that I would order the wiring and go to do the job when it eventually arrived. The wiring section took some weeks to come (it ended up being sent to a firm in Inverness for some reason!) but when it arrived I arranged to get a key and go back to the machine. The new board they had ordered was there waiting for me….. not the main module, they had ordered the control panel board
:bang: This panel is less than half the price of the main module so I suppose they probably just thought I had been quoting them a rip-off price for the part.February 19, 2009 at 9:11 pm #107652Madmac

Youre not alone there phidom, reminded me of a twit on the Black isle who i had given a price for supply & fit of PCB on his integrated dishwasher. Left him to chew it over & had no response for weeks so prompty forgot about it.
Then i hear from him again saying he managed to get the panel ‘off the internet’ at a very reasonable price & would i mind fitting it?
Thought he had a damn cheek but he agreed to pony up the £40 i asked for the fitting so off i went.. what was sitting on the kitchen worktop waiting for me? a bloody Diplomat facia panel.. good god gimme strength :rolls:February 19, 2009 at 10:24 pm #107653maltheviking
ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
Dunno guys what the answer is as we are dammed if we do dammed if we dont.
I usually inform the customer that if they have got the wrong part then I will have had a wasted visit and there will be a extra charge, also if the part is wrong then I insist that I order the correct one at my price. If the part they have bought is OK then I fit it but inform them that there is no Gtee. which they would have had if I had supplied it.
I am seeing more of this going on now than I have for the last thirty years, plus I am getting more and more wiseguys telling me they have found the problem on the internet and this is what is wrong, no doubt been on UKWG :rolls:
Another thing that I have noticed that is on the increase is the amount of punters who have got the back off the machine when I arrive something they don’t tell you when they phone up. This one really pi*ses me off because you don’t know what they have been up to, you then have to prise out of them what they have dismantled. One woman told me the husband had only taken the top off, when I switched on there was a bang, the pratt had taken the wires off the pump and just left them lying, strange my megger never picked this up 😕
You have not to be afraid to walk away if they have been medling too far, after all we are the “last responsible person” if we work on it, bit of a bug*er as it costs us money and time to go there in the first place. 😥 -
