I love it when you go to a customers house to repair the washer….you pull it out and they all go”cor thats terrible behind there, let me clean it”they push you out the way and before you’ve even took the top off they sweep and mop the back up…normally about 10 bloody minutes…………………………

I had to hunt the stripped Bosch dishwasher parts all around the kitchen today. Screws on window ledge, salt cap behind microwave, impellor cover in draining board on sink. Fault not emptying. Woman told by bloke(not there) to chuck it if it is over 50 quid. Fault:chipped piece of cup lying in bottom of sump. guess what the bill was….

How about the ones who stand and watch you as you dismantle their Zanussi. Just at the point when you’ve removed all the screws from the back half and are splitting the cabinet, they ask “have you found the problem yet?” 🙄

Speaking of Zanussi, I remember many years ago when I worked for Hotpoint they imported two Zanussi produced machines for a short period., the 1823 and 1826 ( with 370 and 520 spin speeds 😥 ) you can imagine the main cause of call outs from customers who had previously had a 1500 or 1600.

I remember going to one of these ‘Zanussi’ machines in Chadderton on a CC2 under g/tee call. I walked in and said to the woman, ” don’t tell me, its jumping all over the floor, is it not “? . She said thats brilliant, how did you know before I had said anything. I told her that a huge clue was that the large concrete block that was propping her gate open, was in fact the balance weight ,and not part of the removable packing. 😆

Customers who think that you repair their machine, then go home and sit by the phone for the next 4 years until they ring you again, they cannot understand why you do not have all their details instantly to hand.

I have just done a call this afternoon on an ancient Hotpoint 1504 top loader ( it was beyond repair sadly).
The old lady was most upset when I could not remember going to the machine before ( I did have a very vague recollection ) she said “you must remember, you wrote something on the drum”

I took the back off and sure enough, in my own fair hand on the plastic drum, brief details of the previous repair that I had done…………………… in 1982 😯

I turned to her and said , I’m sorry, I didn’t do a very good job the last time, did I? 😉

You book a call 35 miles away just as a faver for a friend, customer says no problem i will be in all day, arrive at 2pm no reply, sit outside chatting to next door nieghbour who is working in the garden, he says she went out about 12 oclock at 2.30 pm im off to the next call. phone rings 3pm its the office customer has waited all day am i still calling 😯 , advise the office of the situation my call booker gets a load of abuse and the phone slammed down as soon as she mentioned the next door nieghbour :x, that friend is to get an earbashing if he is still a friend when i catch up with him, as for the customer address is noted for the next time she needs a repair 🙂

    Have a good weekend all

Integrated Zanussi Washer Dryer WDI9091, on 5 year cover. Overfilling. I spent an age getting it out, removing the hoses and tying a bit of string to them as they are too short to do anything with. Finally after a lot of bother, accessed the pressure chamber on the tub, removed & cleaned it right out.

She sat there all the time chattering away. I Replaced the machine, fed the hoses back in and put it on test. Ran it on fill, let it tumble & drain, saw the light dim when the heater kicked in, thought thank god all o.k. put it on spin.

Then she says, “Oh and it makes an awful squeaking noise on spin, not doing it now though, must be when loaded, can you see to that as well”. I actually said, “why the hell did you not tell me before I put it back”? I knew if I walked away she would have been on the phone demanding a return visit. Classic Zanussi dampers.

Engineer calls on a Crosslee dryer, on the old Mastercare Coverplan. (Before CDSL) Needed a heater, he orders the part and calls back few days later. Whilst he is there on the second visit, she points out a crack in the door. engineer being resourceful, says, “It is only cosmetic at the moment, next time it goes wrong, mention it to Mastercare when booking and we will bring a door”.

2 hours later, we get a fax from Nottingham, RECALL door split. She was on the phone before his brake lights went on.

I could be here all day.

Ah but Alex, often getting your own back can be just as rewarding. 😉

I would have done had she been chargeable. I planned the next time she came in, she must buy a set of long hoses, no sale then she must get it out. Typically, as they were a good machine, never heard from her again. She probably thought, what a moaner! not having him back!”

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

Had a call yesterday morning from customer asking if I could call sometime in the afternoon as she urgently needs her washing machine repaired. As it was a Hotpoint and no drum rotation I agreed to squeeze her in.Definately at home by 2:30 so any time after.

Arrive at 2:45 no one at home. Waited till 3:00 stuck a card through her door and off to next job.

Back home at 5:00 message on answer machine and to be fair she is very apologetic and we arrange for 9:30am today.

Replaced brushes on motor and present her with bill for £50 telling her I`ve put on £5 for yesterdays inconvenience.Oh I didn`t think you`d charge me for that she says.I respond with wasted journeys don`t pay my wages. She then says adding to the bill won`t get you recommended to my friends.

Anyway she hands me a cheque for £50 and tells me she is going to pack in her job as a SCHOOL TEACHER and train to be washing machine engineer.

I started laughing, wished her luck and left. 😀

You should have pointed out that her dentist would have charged her £10 for a no show, and he wouldn’t have left his surgery.

We take no prisoners when they chose to go shopping etc. Why should I bear the cost of their total disregard?

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

You guys seem to get a lot of work from work providers and insurers.

Assuming you go to 2 jobs that normally the consumers would expect to be covered under warranty, insurance or be billed by a third party for whom you work and probably have fixed rates.

If the first job you go to is a standalone refridgerator that easily pulls out to do a repair and then you go to a second seperate job with a built in refridgerator that requires removal of a door and from a plinth (ie cupboard with base and kick plate), to do the same repair, do you get extra money from the manufacturer, work provider or insurer for the second job for the extra time to remove and reinstall the built in refigerator, or do you charge the consumer for the extra time, or do you absorb (wear) the extra costs.
