Went to a dishwasher once that had been out of action for quite a while, it still had water in it or so I thought, I started to drain it with a cup when I felt my hand getting a bit warm, the stupid idiot had put a weak solution of caustic soda in it to try and unblock it. Kept my hand under a cold tap for the next 10 mins. Luckily no lasting damage

Ah yes, I remember the tingling feeling. I’ve found a bit of blue paper towel acts as a useful litmus test, turning pink if there is any caustic soda around. (Test on a small sample first!)

Last week went to a customer knocked at the door no answer then knocked on the window no answer and I stood there for A few min’s in case they were elderly so then I went and sat back in the van and phoned the office to inform them and a few minutes later a woman come’s storming up to the van I’ve had my door open all this time whilst you’ve been talking to your mate’s on your phone and so it carried on In the end I had to raise my voice as I will not put up with any form of verbal abuse from anyone she then said right your not fixing my appliance as I’m off out now (as if that was meant to inconvenience me 😆 ) and so she got in her car and drove off !!. Luckily all this happened whilst I was on loud speaker To the office as the next day she tried to make a complaint about me but the office backed me to the hilt and told her they had heard everything 8) 8)

I must try that. I too have been caught out by caustic soda or drain cleaner. As a precaution, I always wear rubber gloves and use wet vac. One occasion i had it accidentally splashed into my eye resulted me out of action for nearly a month. No lasting damage as my glasses took the full force but left me feeling weary of it, never trust the customer.

the tricky bit is trying not to say – your house is a sh###t hole mrs ..
so you say – awe yes this is normal – everyone has 2feet of sh##t under their appliance …
b4 i say this i am an animal lover – not in the way you evil minded people think ,,
i like dogs and cats .. but when you chap the door they shout ….ehh can you wait a minute and just putting my million cats out – or ehhhh can you wait im just putting my 10 dogs out
you just know the appliance your working on is going to be in a utility room where all the smelly pets are kept
im allergic to cats and dogs with long hair – the smell catchs my throat and chest straight away – they bloody cat tower things are freekn minging .
oh yes they put the animals out but leave all their food and water bowls all over the shop …. it a mine field
every time you move you either tip a water bowl over or worse tip the food bowl that defo needs a good clean.
if you try to move them they stick and then tip over – or the if you try to grab the mat they are on and shift the lot at once you end up in a pile of cra##p ..
all fun ..lol

Had a miele cylinder in for repair the other day, dropped off in the morning, didnt get a chance to touch it, so it sat out the back all day away from everyone and everything, it came in shop last minute of the working day when i locked up and went home, cust admitted losing bag holder and had kept using it and wondered why it was clogged up. So came in early next day, major strip down and defluff, steal a bag holder off a dead motor miele we hadnt got rid off yet, and new pack of oem bags to bench test.
All passed fine, called customer and her hubby turned up about 2 hours later. told him it was £35 including pack of bags (£10.99)… knew somethign was amiss when he retorts “got plenty of those already” so I replied, well it didnt come in with one and you wouldnt want me to give it back to you without testing would you, “no” so i needed to open a pack of bags to allow the cover to shut. “oh”… so he paid i handed it to him with the remaining bags… “ah no this isnt ours, its far too scratched and scuffed” and handed it back to me, I said oh right, how old is it? he goes “oh only 2 years or so” so i replied, so plenty of time for it to look “used” then. Again i hand it back “but we look after our things, i really dont think this is mine, and if it is it certainly didnt look like that”.
Now im irritated. “sir this came in yesterday and it hadnt moved an inch from where your wife put it down until i locked up and went home. It was repaired first thing this morning and hasnt been near anything that could scratch it” Ok he said well ill have to check with my wife whether it was this badly damaged when it got dropped off…” so i said thats fine, meanwhile i got my autoglm out and started polishing it up. Just to make a point 😉
Oh well it seems it was slightly scuffed when it came in, although i still dont recall it was this bad, but it seems it is ours. NO APOLOGY. now let loose time…
Sir, frankly I find it offensive and quite disgusting you can infer that i had damaged it when I have done my utmost to repair it at as little cost to you as possible. Considering you would have had to have paid £69 just to have miele inspect it and then pay for the bag holder on top, which is probably another tenner at the least, not to mention the additional delay of sending it off and recieving it. Had this been my machine I would have rung my wife to check the condition first before exclaiming “that cant be ours its far too scuffed” so he goes “well i wasnt saying you had done it” and i said so what ARE you inferring? please tell me, because if it wasnt “that badly damaged before it was brought in”, by default you MUST be inferring its happened here. Besides all the scuffs are gone now ive polished it up for you – Its now shinier than a field marshalls boot.Still didnt get an apology but he did walk away looking like he had his tail between his legs…

Just had a weird one.
Went to a customer last week, Whirpool oven, element staying on when switched off, overheating etc. I diagnosed power control board fault, but did add the caveat that I couldn’t be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain as I wasn’t that familiar with this model.
But common sense and elimination pointed to a very high probability that it could only be this being the culprit(Probably a jammed/burnt relay on the pcb).So I ordered the part and told the customer that if I was wrong she would not be responsible for my error (usual practice for us).
Parts is out of stock and customer rang this morning saying if it’s not repaired by friday then to cancel it. I chased up the part which is out of central stock at whirlpool. Now here’s the funny part, she wanted to order the part off the internet on the proviso that I pay for it if it was incorrect.
When I told her ‘no way, in fact tell you what, we’re cancelling the call as we no longer want anything to do with the job’, She went bonkers, telling me in no uncertain terms, that if she subsequently got it done through someone else, then she and the other repairer would be coming after me for misdiagnosis if it was wrong..
That’s the point I said goodbye and put the phone down.
Great start to the week. 🙂

Yeah it’s been really bad for nutters this Christmas I’ve noticed, and there’s still a few coming in now.
Maybe it’ll settle down come February, can but hope 🙁

I am thinking of introducing a Dobber test before entertaining some members of the public.
This is a simple test to save us wasting our time and would go along the lines of,1. Do you know what day of the week it is?
2. Are you on benefits?
3. Do you do drugs or are you on a methadone program?
4. Do you have Cash today and not when your giro comes in?and the list is ongoing to suit your self, make up your own questions and have a bit of fun. :rotfl:
P.S
A Dobber is scottish slang term for thick people and idiots. 😉January 14, 2014 at 3:18 pm #108148iadom

Many years ago round these parts a Dobber was a very large single ball bearing, we had glass marbles or ‘murps’, called glass alleys in some parts and huge Dobbers when playing games of Murps as kids.
