Customers using cookers when they know one of our engineers is coming.
Customers thinking they are the only people in the world who work.
Customers thinking they are the only people in the world with children.
Customers, who pay lets say ÂŁ180 for an all inclusive policy, have failed to read the T&Cs and donât understand why we wonât be there after 18:00. Or a Sunday. Or before 7am.
Customers who you attend in your allocated time slot, decide to go out, ring back 4 hours later kicking off as you have to rebook.
Customers who like harboring rodents in their appliances.June 12, 2014 at 7:48 pm #108176SAMURI

I had a call a few days ago asking for a repair to a built in fridge freezer.
I advised him of my charges and he asked me if I could book a visit for 9.30am Friday.
He said he would text me the details address make & model etc.I had not received a text so phoned him today to see if he still wanted me to call.
He said yes and gave me the address, he then said he would meet me and let me in but he would have to shoot strait off.
I asked him if anybody would be in the property to pay and he went off on one saying you have not even looked at it yet and you are asking about payment.
I asked him to calm down and advised him most company’s now ask for payment upfront before even calling and I was only enquiring if somebody would be there to pay for the repair.
He still started shouting down the phone and complained about me asking for money.
I replied I will cancel the call and not to expect me and he can try to find someone else to repair it and I cut him off.
I know he will have a problem in my area as most independents in my area recommend me for fridge repairs and tell the customers that they no longer do fridge repairs.
If he phones the large agents or manufactures he will have to pay upfront.
If he is like that before you call what would he be like if it was ber or he had problems in the future with it.
I can do without customers like him and have already filled his visit slot and booking into late next week already.
It good when you work for yourself and do not have to take abuse from anyone this is the first customer I have had any problems with since 2006 so I suppose I can’t complain.
Still maybe he might get a few in my area that take the money and run without fixing the problem as I have had a few calls to customers who have had them and not been able to get them to call back.
I have also seen there reviews online it makes interesting reading.

SAMURI post made me laugh â Itâs exactly like 2 calls weâve had this week:
1)A Maytag American F/F- turned up to to fit several quite expensive parts on agreement with the customerâ was told by house keeper payment will be given once parts fitted. Fair enough.
Pulling appliance out, they mentioned the owners were on holiday and said theyâd need to contact them to pay the bill. Cue owners going mental at the housekeeper and engineer at disturbing them (were only +1 hour ahead in France!) and refusing to pay until they got home if we invoiced them. Yes, we walked away as âIâll pay you laterâ never really works out well.
2)Lets call them âLarge UK Service Providerâ sent out another company to a little old dears Fridge Freezer as it was over freezing. Unfortunately, he wasnât systems trained and didnât have the foggiest about refrigeration â he pulled it out, put his hand on the compressor and said it was âhotâ so the compressor was faulty. Job sent to us as lady was panicking about costs etc, turns out she had the appliance sent on 6 and had done for at least a few weeks….June 14, 2014 at 7:59 am #108178cornwell40

Went out to a Hotpoint integ dishwasher, older style with square(ish) pcb in the fascia. Customer laughs at innappropriate places when explaining fault, and wanting explanations about everything you say (an ex copper). Tripped elecs and now can’t get it to do anything. He’s already decided to get a new one as this one is 10 yrs old but his son persuaded him to get it looked at first (thanks son ).
Solder around the two push on tags blown, new PCB required. Big explanation follows and he’s in two minds. I quote ÂŁ150 all in to replace and advise that in my opinion due to age, cost, and the fact that I can’t test it further without PCB fitting, it would be better to replace and he agrees, accompanied with the knowing laughs and nodding head that yer average traffic cop does. He’s also advised (at length) we only give a 3 month guarantee on PCB’s.
So he goes ahead with the repair (cue head scratching and office asking is it really worth it?)
Anyways, return with PCB, fit it and strange programme goings on. The loom is shot, done LOADS of these and never once had a loom fault :-(.
Cue long explanation again and rebook for next day.
Get back next day and it’s the come and sit down routine. Go through everything again, no increase in price even though the job is now over-running. He wants us as a goodwill gesture to increase the guarantee to 12 months which is a no way at all. I explain at length, again, about pcb guarantees, no increase in price etc. I, as I’m now beginning to take this personally, say I’ll give him a 12 months on the labour, knowing it won’t fail again, regardless of the office, nope. I have a word with the office and we both agree to leave the job and take away the new PCB.
Boils down to him making a shockingly bad call initially and trying every trick in the book to get out of the repair, which he did, but I’m so glad he did. Can you imagine the next 12 months if we’d persuaded him to have it done. -
