ParticipantIts not the working for nothing that annoy’s me
It’s those who deliberately set out to de-fraud me or to minimise my worth.
I run a free help advice phone line to save people money.
I’ve been accused by a magistrate of being a parasite because I trade off the brand names
He got it wrong as I won on appeal. And who was he to throw stones, is he not a parasitical creature making his money off of the misfortune of others.
At least I don’t kill my hostI too hate money and feel guilty for charging people, not just the call outs
I would love to work for nothing but unfortunately the bank, the goverment, the petrol station, the wholesaler, the…………., the…………… and the………… etc etc etc etc etc etc don’t return the favour.
So I’m forced to charge for my services
Sometimes I just feel like going to the beach, right Goatboy
cause that gives me a lead in
A goat walks into the bar.
The bartender says, “hey, you can’t come in here.”
The goat looks around and sees several other goats sitting at the bar. “What about them?” he says.
“They’re allowed,” the bartender says, “but we don’t serve kids.”
and
a goat goes into a jobcenter and asks the clerk, in perfectly good english, for some work.
the clerk, amazed, flicks through his files and suggests he might want to try the circus.
“me?”, replies the goat, “what might the circus want with a appliance engineer”
or maybe
What is the difference between a Goldfish and a Mountain Goat? The Goldfish mucks about in fountains!April 20, 2005 at 11:42 am #107310Goatboy

Sound a like a friggin nightmare! 😥
I love helping people too. Sometimes it’s a shame you got to give them a bill afterwards. But some people (indeshit owners) just want to mess you around. You gotta take the rough with the smooth I suppose.
I love the joke btw!

My joke only works when you say it a loud, but here goes…
A young Aussie solider arrives at the front-line during world war two. He finds his British commander, who is battle-weary and grey.
The commander asks , in the queen’s finest english “Did you come here to die, son?”
The Aussie replies “No, I came here yesterday.”

Customers who ‘know it all’ . I find people who work in IT and mechanics are the worst.
The IT people always think an electrical fault has got to be the timer/module/programmer.
The mechanic dives in without asking, thinking that whats good for his car is also likely to sort out his washer.
For example, I once went to a Hotpoint with the old Crouzet timer. slid out the facia to find that every single one of the 80 or so wires had a neat little label attached with the terminal number on it. This computer programmer bod, had diagnosed the fault and stuck in a very expensive timer and even after his careful labelling managed to get a couple wrong. He still wouldn’t accept that the OC cold valve had caused it to stick on the rinses. 😥
On another occasion a car mechanic rang me slagging off Hotpoint’s poor quality. He was attempting a bearing repair on a 9000 series, and had removed the large locking nut from the drum pulley. He thought the drum pulley was a load of c**p because it snapped as soon as he tried to draw it off with his pulley drawers. 😯 😀
If I go to any calls of this nature, my first comment is, ” whats your husbands day job, Demolition Contractor” ?

Hoover Keymatic (circa 1970) Model 3221, (for Martin’s benefit to assist with identification, the one with the clutch built between the sloping front & matchbox range).
Customer worked at the local nuclear power station, which always rang alarm bells as they thought they were one better than the rest. Well known in this area for having a go.
Complaint, sticking on cycle.
Get there, open the top, hinge up lid and on this old model the timer would lift up with the lid. Customer immediately said, “Did you bring a timer”? Took a look, the timer was held together with nuts & bolts, instead of the usual hollow rivets. He’d had it to bits, and sure enough it was doing all sorts of silly things.
In goes new timer, and it overfilled, bloke says, “there you are, that’s funny the fault is still there, you’ve obviously just fitted a duffy timer”.
Had great pleasure in pointing out the perished air pressure pipe at the rear. All it needed was a new tube at about 40p. Timer in those days fitted was a weeks wages.

All this just re-enforces my often held view on the initial question, “What’s the most annoying things customers do?”, in many cases the answer is simple, they breath! 😉

Alex,
I have a similar situation in my area with The Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston. Once upon a time one of their ‘Professor sorts’ knocked on my door and asked for a replacement brake pad for a Creda Debonair Spin Dryer. He obviously worked in the Drawing Office as he produced a full draftsmans sheet drawing of the part he required, including front, side and end elevation. The drawing was very elaborate indeed and must have taken best part of several days work to knock up at the expense of the Ministry of Defence and we mere mortal taxpayers 🙁
I went to my van and moments later produced a brand new brake lever, showed it to him and asked for a couple of quid for it. He then said “Ah! that’s the complete lever and brake pad but I only want a new pad!” I told him that the pad is bonded to the lever and is not sold seperately. He walked away muttering and I put the brake lever back in my van!!!!

I told her I’d be there Thurs morning. I called at 11. No answer. I posted a card. 🙄
10 minutes later the mobile rings. “Sorry, I was picking up the kid from nursery.” I said “That’s OK, I’ll call back” as I’m just up the road. When I get there, there’s no answer again! 😡
Another card posted, and back to HQ for some dinner (Grass + thistles). Another phone call; “I thought I’d pop around the block with the dog”. 😥
“Are you in now?” I said, an went straight down there. Creda cond dryer, not heating, thermostat kit, piece of cake, “It’ll cost you than much love,” to which she replies “Oh, I don’t have any money!” :haier:
I managed to leave without poking her in the eye!

Meant to post this earlier, proper friday afternoon job:
Another engineer ordered a compressor for a bloody great siemens f/f as hes not equipped to change it muggins had to go on a 2 hour round trip.
Got to the job, sure enough the old compressor was seized so changed it, regassed & tested it. Must have spent 1 1/2 hours on me knees but it was working fine, did the paperwork then gave the customer a shout to tell her i was done. She came into the room and said “Oh, while youre here…. I meant to say to your last bloke…. theres a crack along the back of the liner just below the back of the shelf, its been icing up around there as well…. anything serious ?”Customers – cant beat ’em….. shame sometimes.

Sorry to revive this topic again, but my blood is boiling as I type!!!!
A customer has just cancelled a ‘big’ job this afternoon because they used my advice to ‘ring around’ and found a engineer that can get there 2 hours before I can. I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! I hate them! :haier:
Ps. 1 more reply (like ‘shut up goatboy!’) and this topic reaches 100!

It just got thinner! 👿
Saying that, since then, i had some good work come through the phone that I can do this afternoon, instead of booking them in for next week.

Does it always happen to me? You’ve disconected a machine taking the hose off the stub and gone to get the new machine. The customer then procedes to mop up the space and then emptys the bucket down the sink!!! 👿

No, its not only you, its often ME who does that even after only 10 minutes ago warning the customer not to do that!
My worse Sink story concerns me emptying a bowl full of gunky, grungy dishwasher pressure chamber water and slime over 2 large T bone steaks that were defrosting in the sink.

Ruined a large chicken waitin to go in the oven .It was on that bit of worktop over the washer that they never fix securely 👿
I put my weight on it to put the plug in, said worktop collapsed leaving the chicken in the pile of sh’te and ants behind the washer.Tony C
