Hi
If its a standard 4′ chiller then 1/5th r134a is the one needed but if you want to fit a 1/6th r600a will do.

Hi Twicknix
It comes down to common sense.. The leak detectors are cheap, ebay ave them for about £20 test it by petting gas through a burner unlit for a second..if it beeps then it detects gas. instructions are also supplied as with all multi meters and..no i won’t go there.
My son has been doing these repairs for years. Even the CCN1 for gas safety is common sense.
Are thermo couples classed as electric or part of gas due to them being a safety device.
Currently we don’t do these even though they are very simple to replace?Thermocouples are electric.they produce a small electrical current that operates a small solenoid that pulls the valve open passed the let by channel.
And yes I am gas safe registered.

According to my my gas safe engineer I can disconnect the bayonet connection with out being gas safe registered
NOPE if YOU do then you are breaking the gas supply which is not allowed.
As previously advised IF the consumer does it to facilitate cleaning then it is allowed but they must also connect it.As a paid engineer you are NOT allowed to break the gas supply.

OK
As The WTA has requested a formal response concerning this there is as follows :
Official response from gas safe concerning the repair of range cookers :
Date issued: 25 August 2011
Note: This version of Technical Bulletin (TB) 043 replaces the version originally published 19 August 2010 which is now withdrawn. This version has been reviewed and where appropriate revised to ensure that it remains both current and relevant.
This Technical Bulletin provides guidance to self employed persons and businesses that are not registered with Gas Safe Register regarding electrical work that can be undertaken without being registered with Gas Safe Register
Introduction
Following correspondence between the Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in Great Britain (GB) regarding electrical work that can be carried out on a gas appliance without a requirement for being registered with Gas Safe Register, the following statement has been issued by the ECA and has been “endorsed” by the HSE in GB and the Electrical Safety Council (ESC).
Note: “ Where an electrical contractor is installing or maintaining electrical components of a gas system, e.g. solenoid valves, pumps, time switches, provided this work does not involve disconnection of a gas fitting, i.e. breaking into the gas path or combustion system, registration with Gas Safe Register is not necessary.”Therefor if you are replacing an electrical part you do not need to be gas safe registered..BUT due care and attention is required.
My engineers ALWAYS pass over any joints ect a leak detector just in case.Bryan

Hi
IF YOU disconnect the bayonet then YOU must be gas safe registered. IF the bayonet has been disconnected by the customer then you have not broken a gas seal the customer has to allow cleaning ect. That is as long as you do not carry out any gas work.

Hi
It could be a sensor problem but if turning off for 24hrs and then restarting hasn’t worked then you will need to bite the bullet and get an engineer in.

Hi
Sounds like the thermal cut out is tripping out, normally caused by lack of ventilation or it could well be shorting.

Hi
if its only starting to get a bit noisy then no damage should have been caused to the shaft. Its only the idiots who leave them till they collapse that required a major repair.
the bearings and seal are available as separate parts or you could have the full rear half replaced.
