I do think it could be an interesting take on a essential industry. All these machines we use throughout our lives, and helps to free us from the slavery of domestic life.

I would be up for suggestions on how to expand the idea to make it watchable for Mr & Mrs Mondeo. If I proposed a show on the humble lightbulb (likely), I can get the broadcaster’s attention by proposal we look at Disco lighting / studios / strobe lights etc etc. With a washing machine, a visit to a laundrete may be less appealing!!!

What would make YOU watch??!

I think a series of 6 would be just about enough.

There was a series on channel 4 in around 1988 doing just how appliances worked & their history.

I would be looking to recover this ground but with buyers advice, environmental & recycling implications, what commonly goes wrong: advice with engineers of how to ‘look after’ your machine; how long each machine usually lasts. Also some slightly wierd stuff: inventors using machine parts (like Robots on Robots wars use solenoid values to fire compressed air etc). Stuff like that.

It would be for day time viewing though! I am only looking to pitch it as an idea. It does not by any means mean it will be made!

The reasons for me posting is whether what I am thinking of would cover what the public & trade would liek to see in a whitegoods show??

Hi Martin

Have tried what you suggested…but no luck I’m afraid, the pump worked for a couple of minutes as you said it would but the rinse & spin cycle caused the programme selector knob to rotate continuously again (with 5 light flashes between each interval as before). The filter unit is definitely clear and moves freely – unless things can get blocked further inside?

Any ideas?!

Have checked the filter thing at the front again – no more coins (but plenty more water!), and it rotates smoothly and freely. How do I check the drain outlet hose?? It is quite thin – can you feel if it is blocked from the outside, and if it is, how do I unblock it (or is is better just to replace it?).

Thanks for the tip – the filter came out as you suggested, and I am now 26p better off!

However, I have run the machine on another cycle and am having the same problem in that the cycle has stopped mid way through and the light is flashing 5 times again.

Any idea what this may be, and if it is something I can fix. Or do I need to ask someone who knows what they are doing to come and have a look at it?

Ok the saga continues. Repair came about the pump (I was not there). Says pump is ok but not getting correct electrical signal. Says it will cost #190.00 to repair and that it is not worth it. Said appliances are made to last two years, so you should always buy cheap ones and then throw them away. GREAT! Any ideas folks, or do I just head off to the tip and save up for a new one? 😕 Rob

Press any two buttons together and hold “IN” WHILST YOU USE THE + AND – TO SET THE CLOCK. This should allow manual operation.
