    Re: UK Whitegoods Meeting No.3

I used to think that guys who were or had been Service Engineers had a good sense of direction but I am beginning to wonder. ❓

Will all the blinkered Southerners South of Luton and East of Swindon, (East of Swindon is so that I do not upset Alex), try to remember that the centre of Great Britain is reasonably close to Rotherham, not Woking or Guildford. Us poor Northeners have become used to using modern technological invetions such as the telephone, television and record players and we are becoming educated since we were taught to read. 😉 Please do not insult us by showing your ignorance about the places we live and love.

Stafford is the County Seat of Staffordshire. Nuneaton is in Warwickshire and The Black Country is West Midlands.

I don’t think anyone from Stafford would like to be considered as coming from The Black Country or Nuneaton. 👿

PTWAPOS or NTBTS. (If you can work out what the abreviations mean please do not send a PM)

Re: New Bosch WFL 1660 with poor spin performance.

Just an update in my Bosch saga….
They have agreed to swap the 1660 for a new model not yet released, a 2400….. It spins to 1200 rpm. No one has seen one yet so I don’t know wether it is a hotted up 1660 or like the more upmarket 2460.

What a Great, Great Guy Robert Bosch Australia is…..
they replaced the 1660 with a WFL2400 and she is now very happy.
It spins at 1000rpm on quickwash and the towels and jeans etc are now even drier than from the old 1605. When she does a normal full wash it hits 1200rpm for about 1 minute…..Wow 😀 The towels have to be peeled off the side of the drum and spend half the amount of time in the tumble dryer than before.
I don’t know how much the extra speed will affect reliability but the local Bosch Boffin quotes an expected lifespan of 14 yrs.
The machine itself is very similar to the 1660 except it has a knob for spin speed selection and an extra button for Reduced Ironing.
At the top of the door seal is an outlet for a cascade of water for enhanced moistening and rinsing but that doesn’t seem to be functioning, maybe it’s an option on another model?
This W/M model looks like a direct competitor to the AEG W1250 but is priced about $A450 cheaper.

    regards…..Valvo

    Re: Oven Insulation

That’s good news, I’ll get the model no. later.
In fact I had some dialogue with SMEG who were very helpful about the part (quoted a bit more than £15 BTW) but were very cautious about me replacing it. They said none of their engineers would risk it as there was too much chance of damaging the wiring.
I’m surprised by that – does it sound right?

Incidentally I can log in , but this forum will then not display. I can only post / view it by logging out.

Re: Installing New Bearings and Shaft Seal to Spanish Bosch

    Pedro,

Sorry I screwed up on the Bearing Seal part number I’m afraid 😳

Water Seals can be obtained here in the UK from Bearing/Seal suppliers. What is needed are the numbers embossed on the seal to be sure of getting the right type though?

The reason the Spigot comes as an assembled unit c/w bearings and seal is that the machine was MADE FOR BOSCH by another manufacturer in Spain on the cheap!

Thanks everyone-turns out it is a crease guard thing.

Useful feature I guess, but not when you forget there is a pool of water in the drum and you open the door lol

Seems they forgot to add a switch preventing you from opening the door while there was water in there! Ah well, can’t have it all I guess!1

Bosch Part No: 036071 Cost around £3 available

Sorry Martin that part number is for thermostat sender seal on models where the sender fits at front of tub under the weight.

Bosch “quickfinder” does not list seperate seal or bearings for these spanish made models only the bearing cross complete.

OK Guys now I am confused 😕
It’s uneconomical for me to buy a complete assembly to repair this machine(maybe that’s what Bosch want) as it will soon need a new door seal and brushes as well. But if some-one can supply me with the correct part No. or substitute non-genuine part No. then maybe it can be saved from the rubbish dump.
How do you get around this problem in your workshops?
I don’t understand why Bosch list bearing kits for many of their washers but not thids model 😯

    Re: Hotpoint Advertise Franchises!

my sources tell me the losses are in the millions and the figure is above two…….and that the new leader of Whirlpool was involved in those losses as was the guy who has just left!

The franchise idea could spread then….where to next Whirlpool?

don’t take much working out that the franchise idea is a dead duck at those rates, unless manufacturers pay the going rate they wont attract the quality repairers, this will keep going round in circles with the customer getting poor service and the manufacturer name being slagged……Sort it out please

    Re: Servis M3022/M module blown!

    hi Tony,
I’ve got loads of these boards…some repairable some only good for bits(to you)

lots of recent modules and quite a wide range of different ones, are you open to a discount on the repairable if you keep the scrappers for free? Gentlemans agreement I’ll drop em in and trust you to sort them.

I can drop these into you as we do your postcode (in Mansfield every day)and perhaps there are guys on the site who will be in a similar postion to me, who are also getting volume repairs
It is always handy to have a stock on the van to eliminate other faults at the time of the engineers visit, and a recon board is as cost effective way of testing an appliance as i can think of.

Re: Installing New Bearings and Shaft Seal to Spanish Bosch

Thanks for the part No. and advice Martin.
I’m not in the UK so will try and source the part locally, if not I have some relatives there that may be able to ship it for me.
My local supplier only sells the complete bearing, seal, spigot assembly which is about 75 quid.
( Is this a seal common to other brands(hoover, bendix, etc)?
I’m surprised it’s lasted 9 years but I guess this type of seal is always going to fail eventually.
Now that most machines have a molded plastic outer bowl do you know what type of seal is used & is it more effective?

Re: Installing New Bearings and Shaft Seal to Spanish Bosch

I’ve looked at it again and maybe I’ve got it all wrong. 🙄
The seal is installed in the 4 legged spigot and I thought the innermost seal lips passed through the hole of the outer drum but now i’m thinking that the 2 lips of the seal just press up against the outer face of the drum.
I’m re-using the old seal as the local service guy couldn’t supply a new one.
Should I use silicone sealer when I reassemble?

    Cheers,
    Pedro

Re: Installing New Bearings and Shaft Seal to Spanish Bosch

Thanks for the prompt reply Martin,
Yes it is a WFB1605. I’ve already removed the drum assembly from the cabinet because that’s what the local repair guy advised.
The spigot did come off the shaft fairly easily but the seal appears to pass through the hole so the lip seals on both sides of the outer drum. This looks as though it may be difficult with the shaft already poking through the hole.
How do you get the seal into position without damaging it? 😯

    Cheers,
    Pedro
