    Re: LGH

Had thought of MFI but the rate and discount isn’t as bad as manufacturers. I don’t think they could make a saving there. Even if there is a risk, we may as well stay on their side unless of course they think they can trim that account.

Reading between the lines I think they are looking at S.F. Hotpoint/Merloni over 5 years and Hoover/Candy etc. All these were suggested in the phone call. He did mention the cost of spares in some cases.

D&G tried it once with Hotpoint but then GDA then refused to sell or endorse D&G policies unless they had the work. Some of us lost a chunk of work as a result.

Yes we need to get onto this bandwagon.

Graham was asking our rates as he wants to see what the general picture is and what they can sustain.

You may recall how we done the MFI one where they wanted agents but didn’t want it to be known, I think we should take the same route. What I’ve done is put Graham in the frame by giving him the site details, if we can we need to convince him to take the same tack as Tony Brown did, if so we are getting there. The great thing is, he has a rapport with MFI so I’m sure they will endorse us as being discreet and reliable, plus the fact it worked for MFI.

I will speak to Graham tomorrow and see if he has looked at the site, I will ask him if he would consider following the MFI route on the site.

    You never know.

    update 11.10 a.m.

Graham Mottershead called me back. He tells me London General are looking at utilising the Indepandent repair agents, rather than Manufacturers. I know they have been talking to CDSL, but It is good to hear they are looking further afield.

At the moment he is reluctant to make it too public as he doesn’t want some manufacturers to know about this. Therefore I’m not putting anything related to this on a public/trade forum.

I have told him about this site & he says he will get registered and he may put up a posting. He has to go back to the powers that be.

I’m expecting an e-mail & when I do I will forward his e-mail address to Ken.

Waiting to hear back from Graham Mottershead. He tried to reach me on Friday & I was out, so I’ve left a positive message on his voice mail.

When I find out more I will post it up.

    Re: GB DAR

Haier, repairs were shared with either British Gas or Caremark.

Spoke to a distributor earlier today & he told me it has been a nightmare, in particular getting the parts and uplifts where machines have been waiting in some cases for several months.

Apparently the Dishwashers are that bad, for every 3 manufactured, 4 breakdown.

This distributor says that if GB Dar get the work, things cannot get worse and I’m told B.Gas were paid in excess of £70 per call.

Well I done it from memory & at least got the year right. I would never have got the drivers without looking it up, & guessed at Alan jones, not that sad.

I hope it gets better as well, I may have fell asleep last Sunday, I was told it was due to a good meal, best part of a bottle of wine etc, rubbish, I was resting my eyes. I gave F1 a rest for the last 2 years as Shumacher is as exciting as Steve Davis or Phil Collins with the charisma of Nigel Mansel.

I’m going to see the San Marino at Imola this year, alleged to be the last one from there.

Frogot that one, Think it was Tolman 1980. Winner of the race was probably Alan Jones.

Going back to the start of this thread, the footy, the only reason the defenders were spinning on the pitch was because they were looking for the ball, some Scouse Scally ran on the pitch & nicked it during the celebrations.

    Re: Hoover/Candy/GIAS Called Me Up…

Got a feeling I will be binning loads of Candy parts as well. I can add to that, Philco, Servis, Brandt, Leisure/Rangemaster, Hoover and some Merloni that arrived after I had received credit and our trading account was closed.

It is criminal really, but it is now junk, and cluttering up valuable space. You know what will happen though, they day after someone will want something. We sold some Philco dampers the other day, we had 8 in stock and got rid of 2 for the 1st time in over 3 years.

No bugger in DASA can come up with anything. Apart from Jason in this forum I’ve heard nothing from DASA. I sent the same as in the DASA pages to their e-mail address Sunday 29th Feb & guess what nothing.

Can we change this to removal of Martin?

I’m glad he wasn’t given access to the W.R.

I’ve browsed the net & think I’ve found his website. http://www.jackinworld.com

I did find it by accident, honest.

Goes anyone remember Down to Earth Electrical.

They used to take back all the Comet scrap and recon, they operated out of this town, but sold throughout the whole country. Used to have 22 staff reconning all the time and sell to the trade, either raw or reconned products.

Run by a bloke called Tim Grabham. Comet changed their strategy and he was left with nothing.

He asked me loads of things at the meeting, I took it he was just curious.

But what a wanker. Alright I have a lot to say for myself, and I like to put it on the line sometimes, BUT I’VE NEVER HAD ANY THREATS. Condidering I’ve loads of agencies as well as contacts & Matin had none, why would they chose to threaten him, yet I’ve never had a sniff.

There was that phone call from Merloni a while back from my posting on the old site. (Any Merloni agents out there? if so watch your backs…….) It made be angry and I leapt to my own defence.

Any way he was beginning to litter up the site a bit.

    Re: Hoover/Candy/GIAS Called Me Up…

All the above is no fairy story either.

I was an agent for many years, my 1st course was in 1975 and the training was from a reel to reel projector. (No videos in those days) We went through the years of supporting them with product recalls etc, dealing with a rubbish D/Washer that had 2 doors, their refigeration, the top loader etc. Along with poor parts identification, and returns. They used to remind us on a regular basis that G.B. was the only country where the agents where paid to repair their products. No wonder in the rest of Europe their engineers used to drive around in the sort of vans that Chicken Farmers would use, (Corrogated sides and all that).

I digress, we were shafted big time by them, stuck with loads of parts, so much so that when we moved premises we filled a skip with fridge doors. I could fill another skip with the rest of their rubbish as well. I will say for Merloni, they took everything back without question.

In 1999 a year after the Hoover take over, (I will let you surmise who took over whom), we found our workload diminshed to nothing, we then started getting complaints from retailers regards calls we had never made. It didn’t take long to find out they were using us, all the 08705 national numbers were switched to Merthyr Tydfil. After a hot summer of recalls on their engineers work on refrigeration we jacked them in. I still haven’t had a reply from my letter to Tony Games.

A year or so ago they asked me to look at a Range cooker for them, we negotiated a rate of £60, guess what they only paid £27 odd.

About a month ago I had a service request from Bolton, after I stopped laughing, I gave them a potted history and even after talking money, I told them to get lost.

3 Days later, a fax from ISDA, I spoke to Wendy who understood fully my sentiments and accepted without question my rationale on that.

I’ve always said that I don’t believe in fall outs on the way up as you never know what will happen on your way down again. Pity Gias didn’t think the same.

    CLUTCHING AT STRAWS OR WHAT.

That doesn’t mean that the dryer still didn’t “time out” after the alleged fire took hold.

Will watch with interest, I hope it all goes well for you.

    Regards

As well as the above, which is very possible; even if the machine is not in use, a mains power supply is still present. There may not be any current being drawn at the time but there is an interference capacitor which is the 1st point on the appliance. That is always reading a potential difference and a likely reason for fire.

There have been instances in the past where these mains capacitors will combust for no apparant reason.

Just a thought and I’m sure the forensics team will look at ALL possibilities.
