Perhaps this forum could be of interest to you guys.
Powerswitch Go for he forums. A few from the green lobby as well as lots of debate on Nuclear, Oil and Wind.
It will take you down memory lane as to how this site used to appear as well.

Absolute madness.Unless you happen to be bidding for a wind farm or a nuclear power plant.
One makes sense, the other does not. IMO.
Both mean controversy ahead. K.
Even then Nuclear is not wholly the answer as in our case.
Hinkley Point C has just been approved. Will take at least 10 years to build, cost £14 Billion. Employ up to 25,000 during the build and maintain 1,000 operationally.
Sounds good, until you get to the flesh on the bones.
It is being built by Électricité de France, who as the name suggests are French. We threw the baby out with the bath water when previous governments sold the national supply industry.
Électricité de France (EdF) Have realised they are financially on a loser and are now pressurising the UK Government for a review of the “strike price” of generated power, known as the contract for difference.
At present the generating cost is fixed at just over £40 per M/Watt hour. EdF want this raised to £97 per M/Watt hour, and fixed at that price for 40 years. The Government looks likely to cave in at £80 for 50 years. That will immediately have an effect on the bill to the consumer.
Enough of the politics, It also becomes parochial.
This is the first of this type in the UK being pressurised water reactor. (Not to be confused with the type of water reactor such as Harrisburg Pennsylvania) As yet there isn’t another globally that uses this particular technology. There is one being built at Flamanville France, and another Olkiluoto Finland. Both are seriously over budget, and well past schedule.
A public enquiry took place in 1989 (Barnes Report) Among other things they advocated a by-pass must be built for Bridgwater & the Village of Cannington. EdF have refused to comply & managed to get this through despite heavy public opposition. This plant will be four times larger than the 1989 proposal.
For the next 10 years Minimum, we are to expect 9,000 buses, 7,500 HGV’s plus cars, white vans and existing traffic, per DAY, on roads that are already congested. (HGV according to EdF are trucks of 3 Axles or more)
Then there are the thousands of “imported” single male workers needed to construct the plant. Think of the crime night time economy etc.
Don’t even go there with the waste, to which they have not reached a solution.
Positives:- Lots of money, growth and opportunity in an area that is dying. The lights won’t go out, the EdF spin doctors tell us they will. Employment to a small degree, a lot of workers will be coming in from other parts of Europe.
I could go on all day on this subject, and I am not anti-nuclear.
So what’s the fix? I really don’t know.

ParticipantRe: Zanusi WD 1012. 25years old . Bearing problem?
The Zanussi WD1012 was one of the “Washcraft” range from 1981 to 1990. I was the Zanussi agent throughout all that period (and beyond) and practically the only make I ever repaired.
The drum bearings and seals are held in a cast iron “Spider” and with the 3 outer bolts removed, and the 3 inner slacked it was a keyhole fit and a simple repair. 20 to 30 minutes average time, so max without any prior experience say 1 hour.
I was replacing bearings on that range until they finally became extinct, and in all that time and the hundreds I must have fixed I doubt if I had to replace the drum or spider more than 10 occasions.
That aside though, most parts are now obsolete on that dear old thing. Motor/Clutch Timer, Tub and many hoses no longer available.

WoW glad we do not have anything to do with this company anymore….
Well I didn’t get the phone call, and Dave Highton knew where to find me.
There again he probably realised may well have been wasting his breath.

ParticipantRe: I wonder who’s behind this?
Complete with spelling mistakes as well, not Americanisms either. Might take some finding but Previous doesn’t have an “e” on the end for example.
Intrigued about the source behind the list of repair agents, not lifted from another site I presume?

We all know what OpCapita are about! There again I would have thought there was little to plunder out of this in any case.

ParticipantRe: HMV
Last time I visited an HMV store, I had more in my collection than what was on offer in the store, and that was not due to the size of my catalogue.
Downloads have no doubt killed the hard-disk market. Only sad people like me who is a collector that still buy in the old fashioned way. I often download from I-Tunes, and yet still buy the CD if a good one.
The above might look bizarre, but I remember in the late 60’s I sold most of my record collection to buy a motorbike, the music was recorded onto a reel-to-reel tape; but technology overtook the format, and I have always regretted the depletion of my collection.
Can’t say I anticipate a return to CD’s but vinyl is back in vogue.

twicknix wrote:According to Homefix, this Bristol company is my nearest Domestic appliance repair for Birmingham. I shan’t worry about the “increased” competition. After all it’s two hours drive from Bristol’s Causeway cribbs near M5!
You need to get a new van.
I’m 45 minutes south of Cribbs Causeway, and when my old man was alive I used to get to his house in Washwood Heath in less than 2 hours. That was going via Swan roundabout, Bordesly Green Road, Cotterills lane and passing Southalls by the Brookhill.
Lovely part of the world.

Being pedantic not exactly “Moles” More like a cross between “Stilsons” or “Footprints”
Nevertheless not a tool I would have ever used either.

ParticipantRe: Homefix
Being nosey, I looked on the site for an appliance repair in my area.
Got this:- Repairers in Bristol Can’t say I know them, but look well established
If you move onto their website:- Bloke in Blue boiler suit The guy is refitting the outer door seal band to a Zanussi Z919T (Trip down memory lane for me)
Bristol traditionally has a shortage of good appliance repairers, (too many chimney pots, not enough repair companies) so it does surprise me there is a need for them to use Homefix.
You never know it may well work for them?

No reflection of Christmas tree lights etc either, and good for watching sport in the Summer, no need to close the curtains.

Also the mains terminal block, they are known to fail if the mains cable is poorly connected.
Smell will seem apparent when element energised due to current being drawn.
