Time this one was dug up again.

How many of us I wonder are still with them and importantly have you noticed the money hasn’t gone up for nearly 3 years. Added to that, the payments are getting slower & slower, then there are rumours regards high staff losses.

I may put something in the subscribers forum, but 1st of all I’m looking for the general feeling. I like them but we are left to get on with it and considering all built-in and a high level of double calls, I’m wondering if they are good for my business.

Lovely customer, we went there in our short period of being Brit Gas agents. She was as good as gold, told us up front she was the one that hit the headlines. No problem at all, the engineer parked out in the road.

We did have another who threatened to, and when the engineer phoned me, I told the woman if she carried out her threat I would phone the police and press charges for unlawful imprisonment. All that was over was due to having to oder a pcb for an AEG D/Washer.

    Some people.

    Without pointing a finger….

I had a strange e-mail from Wendy and she tells me that she has been made aware of my accounting differences from a 3rd party. She went on to say this 3rd party even told her I have an uncleared cheque on her accounts. She did not let on who that was, and I made it clear I don’t want to know either.

Can I ask ALL members of this room, all postings, comments and sentiments are 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} confidential, and need to be kept within these walls. The rationale with this part of the site is we work together, yet seem apart.

You can show logos in your advert as long as you sell the goods, even if that includes the sale of genuine spares.

Yellow pages always used to ask me for evidence I was an approved repairer. These days I don’t include makes, far easier and you can be selective if you are quiet and will take anything, or if busy and want to turn away the rubbish, that way nobody can quote your advert.

Best way to ask me would have been pick the phone up, I had a call from another member regards this, didn’t know I was in line. No thanks, up to my neck in work, overworked understaffed and in too many little quangoes as is.

Not only that, at my age, I might be perceived as an old boy as per an existing old boys club.

No offence guys, I know you will manage and I will watch with interest.

I had a statement for 3 months purchases. I’ve e-mailed Wendy several times, and been promised a result. Nothing. Iv’e also spoken to Dave Highton who has passed it on, again nothing. They still haven’t banked a cheque I sent 18th April.

They owe me considerably more than I owe them, and I’ve a feeling they will try & contra. That is all well & good but there are several invoices in dispute regards credits etc. on Leibherr parts arrived damaged.

My best course of action I suspect is to tender my notice, but I will be stuck regards the disputed purchase invoices.

It is time to pounce though.

As Ken does have a taste in Music, I wonder if Saxon would be included.

Jeff Buckley, yes very good, and I remember his dad, Tim Buckley, they both died very young, and were both very mixed up. As a musician though Tim was a whole lot better, there again unlike Jeff, he didn’t have anything to try and live up to, no pun intended.

Back with a vengeance I must say. Gary is back on monday as well.

I phoned Roy up and asked him if there is anyone else he would like to get rid of, meaning Brandt. That bit where it said in paragraph 3 regards peoples judgement, and perhaps being right, he could of said, “That means you Alex”

To be honest though, will hardly make a difference as the I/G calls were probably not loads, and we will still see the insured.

The 24 hours notice thing is concerning though, not really professional looking from the outside, but they probably have their motives. I recall that was done to a lot of agents by a Service Provider from Lenton Boulevard in Nottingham back in Sept 2000, now who was it that wrote to us all?

    Re: Customer contact.

Have no problem phoning mobile 20 mins before. The girls tell the customer that if the phone is off or not answered, the call will be abandoned. The engineers with-hold their numbers, so they don’t get bothered by a customer who has missed a call.

If we get no reply or voice mail the engineer phones the office, we phone the mobile & home numbers, and if still no joy leave a message advising call is abandoned. When the customer gets back, we re-book as home all day, and no phoning 1st. When they complain we make it clear “we done it that way last time, and it didn’t work”.

The worst offenders are those that request a phone call 1st on the mobile, then leave it off, and all the time they are sat in the chair watching Jeremy Kyle. Some customers ask us to phone the home number before calling, we always say “If your home to answer the phone, you are home to anwser the door”.

Hi Alex, I did look for earlier threads, maybe not enough though! I’ll look again….. However, you confuse me…… how do you prefer anonimity when you advertise your name, www, etc?
    Adrian 🙂

Bad English on my part. Try, some are Service Agents like me, but they unlike me, choose to remain undercover.

    Bit ambigous.

This has been covered many times, and I’m sure somone can find a link to an earlier posting on this.

Lots of reasons. Some are employed by the big boys, some are like me service agents and prefer anonimity, and some are just a little timid when it comes to nailing their colours to the mast.

I must admit, those that put their names to things are more listened to, but if it wasn’t for the “Undergound” movement, very little would be said and done.

I’m sure someone will put it even more eloquently than I, but there you have it!

To be honest I’ve tried to stay out of it as I need the time to read it all. I am incensed at the “holier than thou” attitude of DASA, and glad I’m not on the council.

I was going to say an old boys club, realised I have to be careful as I have the qualification at least.

I will happily talk to people on this, but would rather not invest any more of my precious time at the keyboard in going over the same old ground.

    Re: Subs/TA

From the postings so far, I am reminded that there are potential pitfalls with any Trade Association. Politics and personalities come into play as well as self containment. I assume then that there has been no or little response from DASA regards the above.

I’ve just read Del’s response in the subscriber forum, and after reading the above, along with Del’s sentiments, I think a bit of an injustice may have taken place. If that is the way he has been treated it is incredulous. Del has been the advocate of DASA and almost singlehandedly persuaded me back into the fold. Granted he has had the opportunity being out there, but got off his arse & done something.

Not being there, and not aware of the credibility of the applicant, I’m not in a position to comment. However I am in a position to have concerns being a member of DASA. Therefore I cannot place judgement on their motives, but being a member I do question their modus operandi.

I might put some of the above into the Subscribers forum, but don’t want to side-track the thread into yet another slag off session regards DASA. Even if they look like they deserve it. Secondly, I would rather a dailogue with Del 1st as I don’t want to talk as if he is not among us, as he clearly is.

Just reading it all reminds me totally what it will be all about, a talking shop.

All of you that have posted have put up lots of worthwhile argument, and to be honset I skip read it because there is far too much content to grasp my imagination. And there is the rub, swathed in even more rhetoric and possible baloney.

Don’t get me wrong boys, but we all know if anything happens it will be same old names and the same old faces at meetings. Not that I mind seeing everyone, but I could easily get confused as to what panel/comittee I’m part of today. The ones that would devote time and effort to this probably already do so in other forms, and as per bloody usual same old people, me being one of them.

Older & more cynical than ever.

Re: Do you use customers toilet?

Never and I don’t encourage the engineers to either. It is a matter of timing, when I used to smoke (30+ per day), I arranged my calls around the fag breaks, and the same goes with a pee.

If really bad and offered a brew I used to decline the drink on the grounds of what goes in has to come out again, somtimes the customer would repeat the offer of a drink, and advise the facilites were available if needed.

Over the years I got to know all the useful places, the best were supermarkets or I would tie it in with visits to refuel the van. The other option was the open countryside, and I used to see quite a bit. A visit to a retailer was a good one, and a free coffee into the bargain.

I was always of the habit of starting a call by washing my hands on arrival, and if with a fridge the customer was often impressed and not aware I’d popped behind a hedge on the way there.
