Special Notice Being Put Into Vehicle Licence Reminders by the DVLA. Advance Warning!
In order to assist other motorists in identifying potentially dangerous drivers, it’s now compulsory for anyone with a lower than average intelligence and driving ability to display a warning flag.
The flag (consisting of a red cross on a white background) will be attached to the top of at least one door of their vehicle.
For drivers of exceptionally low ability, additional flags are required to be shown.
There is no upper limit to the number.

ParticipantRe: Sale of Dangerous Parts to the Public.
I read somewhere that a punter tried to purchase a bit over the counter from a service company in Leeds, and was declined the transaction on safety grounds.
I seem to recall that the purchaser tried to take it further regards the fact he was turned away, and CORGI got wind of it. The result of that was the retailer was considered by CORGI to be a reliable and responsible supplier by refusing to action the sale.
Therefore they must endorse the sentiments expressed so far on this, as I certainly agree with the severity of this. I will not even sell a spark plug to the general public.
Can’t remember where I saw this, may have been in Gas installer?

Steady now.
We are finding the same, it is only the chargeable that is keeping us bouyant. Insurance work, including CDSL has dropped significantly, as well as warrranty work.
With 6 engineers it is very difficult to keep them gainfully occupied. You can only do so many van stock checks.

JohnYes it was buried in a catalogue.
Thanks for that.

I read Kershaws posting and fired back at once, without even opening this thread. I think I might have saved Rudi a job in that.
I Haven’t had a letter from CDA, in fact no correspondence at all. therefore I cannot comment on either way. I can comment though on the events that fell into place recently, and it seems the concur with the gist of this letter you have all had.
If Rudi is part of their network, or has access to the letter, who knows? (No I’m not fishing to find his identity)

ParticipantRe: Finish this part number
Deosn’t exist that’s why. All old AEG 645 numbers are prefixed by 899
Type in 899-645050950 and changes to 8996453286008 which is a flange?
Hope that helps.

2004 VW Passat Sport Auto, all the toys etc. Less than 20k on the clock.
This afternoon driving along, Landrover was let out of a gateway by a dithering old fool in a Primera. Girl behind him in a Clio stopped, I stopped, Mondeo behind me stopped after nudging my rear end. I expected superficial damage, less than 10 seconds later, Picasso rammed the Mondeo which ended up totalled both ends, air bags were deployed in the Mondeo after the second impact. Picasso a write off, mine driveable. Police had a field day with the driver of the Picasso.
Doesn’t look a lot, but… Rear doors dragging on wheel arches, whole of floor of boot creased up, spare wheel jammed into the well at the bottom. Roof line affected and dropped down behind the rear quarterlights. Whole of rear end dropped by 10mm. Suggested will be a write off.

They have changed their strategy now. Due to a re-write of the constitution the maximum fee is £250 no matter how many technicians. I think it is £150 if you are a sole trader.
I rejoined as a result of the drop in subscriptions, and they can only get better. What they desperately need though is new blood, being more members.

ParticipantRe: D&G BER policy
If on a Lux group policy, which is all embracing and covers all eventualities, the BER figure is £175 instead of £125. Added to that the rates and parts discount tend to keep most repairs under the write off.
On one of the above type policy, the customer gets a like for like & the supply is supposed to be direct from Lux, and a good rate. Here is where it goes t*ts up. If Lux cannot supply within 4 days, they go to Comet. If anyone has ever attended an open day at Bedworth, you will have seen the P.C.s are all logged into the Comet website on the browser.
If the repair is on a policy sold by a retailer, or by late solicitation, then the terms are different. The BER limit is £125, the rates are slightly better and discount is less on parts, therefore the BER likelihood is greater. They offer like for like, and if usually whoever sold the policy gets 1st shout. Then it goes to money or Comet voucher.
As a Lux agent, I am well p155ed off by this as Comet does their own repairs I/G. Say no more. Lux know about this, D&G know my sentiments, and yet we have to put up with it. Michael Fitzgerald actually sat with me one day, and tried to explain their motives. His rationale was that not in all cases can they guarantee the normal supply, whether that is by the policy seller or retailer. They also need to be aware of market prices at all times, that is where the Comet web page comes into play, and they wont use Currys because of Coverplan. They are still taking work from me though, so the secret is to write as little off as possible. If a big job, and silly money, it might be an idea to book-out most of the bits with the labour; then book a “recall” 3 weeks later for the rest.

Candy Turbo 21 in the mid 80’s.
Called to attend a leak, searched and searched all over the thing. No leaks but strong evidence there was over-dosing. Woman was threatening to sue the makers due to floor/unit damage. So I had to be 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}.
Showed her the inside, and soapy stains on the floor, still having none of it. Put the thing together, filled out the P/Work and left.
Wen’t back a week later, this time she was about to sue us. Again went through the lot. The evidence that was there last week that I had cleaned up was back. Still was having none of it.
During questioning, I asked her, was the front door of the machine white with suds? she said emphatically… “No”
Little kiddy in the kitchen piped up; “Yes it was Mummy, don’t you remember”? Mum says, “Shut up, no it wasn’t.” “Yes it was mummy, and there was water coming out from underneath”. “It was not white!!”. “Well I saw that it was, and you were here when it did it”.
Shopped by her own sprog. I charged her the call out, never heard another thing. She may as well had been honest in the 1st place.
