ParticipantRe: Best make of van for the job (all rounder)
I was doing a search for somthing else and came on this thread.
For me the first renault trafic i had the gearbox went under guarantee so was replaced foc. Went on to do ninety five thousand miles. The second one, after one hundred and ten thousand miles was still going strong untill someone (Mark) stuffed it into a 4+4 and horsebox. So onto no 3 and so far only done 156 miles going good and i like the built in satnav and bluetooth for the phone.Ally

Only get down your way a couple of times a month. But hope to get the new van fitted out this weekend with woodwork etc. and all the stock back in. Although i saved your unit in the sat nav as you never know. Thanks again.

Just found this post. I am looking for a new van at the moment. In the last couple of weeks my van has been stationary in the drive due to the snow. Got so fed up sitting around so i bought an old land rover to get me out and about. Is there a van available with four wheel drive and some comforts as well. i.e. air con, power steering. Alarm, central locking, etc. Forgot to mention at a reasonable price.

(By the way, to anyone reading this post, only a true Radio Ham would fully realise the significance of the prefix/number combination.)
Hi Martin

Funny you should mention the ft-101 i was at the Galashiels rally yesterday and one of the Stirling club members was looking for one. Looking over the different stands I found three for sale ranging in price from forty quid to two hundred and fifty quid. They all looked the same to me tie a bit of rope to them and well you know the story.

Bloody hell I hardly get time to reply to one post then another one pops up… Good to hear from you g1nda looked you up on QRZ but you are not listed so could not get your name. Yes it is free now and you will still be able to retrieve your licence from Ofcom. Get back on the air. There are no excuses with 2m 70cm radios being so cheap these days.

Spit…Spit… Only jokin many a good amateur has come from the cb. I was involved with cb back in the am days before it was legal. Gave it up when it was made legal on fm.
A guy I used to work with was in to amateur radio and I always looked forward to listening to the conversations when we were out in the van at that time. I was an apprentice television engineer back in the 80’s. It was only recently I decided to go and sit the exams and get my ticket. And I’ve got to say this has got to be one of the best things I have ever done in my life….. Met so many new friends through the hobby and i don’t mean at the end of a mic. We regularly go out for curry’s and a few beers from time to time. And good to hear you mike m3biz as well. This is one hobby that will be with me for life. QRZAlly

Oh blimey Ally we’ve been harping on about this here on UKW since the outset, so nothing new there matey I’m afraid. In fact the price of that door at Connect for example is £139 trade (ex VAT).😯
Hi Martin
I really do not mind the odd pound or two as I do not have the time to compare prices all the time but this situation is ridiculous at least. Parts centre are quoting £198.45 that is today’s price as it was £233.00 yesterday Hotpoint’s price on the tinternet £139.99 delivered with the vat included. Sorry to be so cynical but I thought we were suppose to make a small profit on the parts as well. Or has this all changed. Connect with the vat are quoting £163.32 and I suppose there will be a del charge on top of that.
There is something fundamentally wrong with the system it is far too easy for the public to type a model no in to the internet and get better than trade prices.
As a note when I phoned Hotpoint they were offering a discount on the web site price if I ordered the part right away.Ally

Checked both of you out in the log and it appears I have not worked you yet unless you have been working a special call sign special event etc. I am normally active on 20 40 and 17 at the moment from my qth (home location for all the non amateurs). There are plans in the not too distant future for a tower although that won’t happen till next year. Just listening to a conversation on 2m they are talking about CQWW. last year we got a cert for first m2 (two transmitters multi band) in Scotland.73

ParticipantRe: radio

ParticipantRe: Trade pricing…!
Thank for the reply Martin
I might be old skool but expect to get the best price within a pound or too from the people I have been dealing with for years and years. That said i got in contact with the head office i.e. (parts centre) today and was passed on to the local branch in Kirkintilloch.
They were reluctant to comment on the problem. Primarily they are a plumbers merchants, but say they are suppose to supply parts for the white goods industry as well. This is a new thing to them and it all stinks. So again who as an independent repairer should I be buying my spare parts from????…….. on another note went round to Crum and sons the other day and found they have gone to the wall….. Bollocks I have been dealing with them for over 27 years. very sad loss.Ally
