ParticipantRe: Comet Service Centres
It’s just that no one at Comet I’ve spoke to seems to know about it.

Reading your post I can’t believe how much you’ve bent over backwards. You sound like you give a fantastic service, and someone I’d have no hesitation in recommending, but you are possibly a bit too soft with customers at times? When it backfires like this it hurts doesn’t it?

ParticipantRe: hvr tc650 dryer
I had one yesterday where I could see the float that operates the microswitch bobbing up and down in the chamber which also holds the little pump at the back of the dryer. It clearly had water in. When I switched the dryer on though it pumped the water up into the water container at the top – so I let it go.

I’m trying me best at Comet Martin. I gave up trying to make a living fixing them after 20 odd years 🙁
I mean, how much do you have to charge to fit a motor on a Hotpoint or Indesit – or PCB and Eeprom?

Do you mean Comet have lost it?

ParticipantRe: Is WashVac’s site down?
Customer just asked me for carbon brushes for a Hotpoint WM62P so I enter WM62P in the search box to just double check if they are the laminated type or FHP type. All I get is
Sorry, no matching products were found. Try again, or, if you’d prefer, we can order it for you!
Surely they have parts for a WM62P?

The creaking noise may well be the program being “selected” Hoover’s have often had a mechanical motor or device that finds the right spot before starting.

ParticipantRe: Creating and Uploading Websites?
The best method by far is to write it yourself using HTML or XHTML and CSS (cascading style sheets) but As K says, this is also the most difficult way (although HTML is NOT difficult – it’s just difficult compared with using so-called off the shelf packages) The problem with off the shelf packages is that they can be all very samey, and the code is usually not too search engine friendly and often only works well in Internet explorer.
It depends whether you just want a web presence you can link to, or to put on your advertisements, or whether you want people to be able to find you on Google and other search engines – not by searching for you – but by searching for a repairman etc and finding you because you’ve put so much work and effort into your site. The latter requires much dedication to achieve though
Dreamweaver is awesome , but Homesite (also owned by Macromedia now) is excellent too and much cheaper.
There are many free HTML tutorials online.
Books I can recommend are
The complete reference web design by Thomas A Powel
Designing with web standards by Jeffrey Zeldman
Eric Meyer on CSS, mastering the language of web design by Eric MeyerI also agree with K on Frontpage. MS don’t like their stuff to work on non Internet Explorer sites – yet many millions of people do not use Internet Explorer

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating
Spot on. I never found any blocked filters, or any reason for them tripping (out of at least a dozen I’ve looked at) although to be fair I only stripped 2 or 3, the rest I reset with a paper clip as they were first time trippers.

Are the email addresses the same? I emailed about not being able to access the site and no one’s replied.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint / Creda tumble dryers not heating
The latest Hotpoint washer dryers sold over last year or so I think. There is a thermister and a TOC (one-shot) stat controlling the drying. The Indesit’s are the same.
