I know it sounds daft and flies in the face of years of experience of fixing washing machines, but I have had several instances of a broken wire at the element giving the initial symptoms that you describe…..

    Dave

It *was* a broken wire at the heater. It looked fine – but the wire inside the insulation was broken.

Cheers Dave. I did check them, but not that close 🙂 I will bear that in mind.

Re: Strange fault on Indesit washing machine – stumped!

The dongle thing is supplied by Hotpoint (at expense) it fits in the back of most modern Hotpoint and Indesit machines (there’s a plastic cover to remove on the left rear side of the machine)

I didn’t check brushes as I got a good reading but I will return with a motor. The heater connections looked ok, although I’m not sure a heater connection fault would cause total deadness. My understanding is it would cause the timer selector knob to click round (after it had filled?)

On some Hotpoint’s now, if the motor is open circuit the machine “won’t fill or operate”. I don’t know if any Indesits are similarly affected though.

    K.

You use the post code AND the street name & number. e.g. You can put “Sheffield” “Name_of_street” + “house number” OR “S6 5” “Name_of_street” + “house number”

I would if I knew one that covered the area 🙂

The Tom Tom Go does use post codes. You put the post code in under “City..” Although it only finds the post code area and doesn’t use the last 2 letters which identify the street.

Maybe so Dave, cheers. I can’t think why anyone would sell a demo model and leave it in Demo mode though, but any info on Dyson is interesting so please ask.

K: I reckon you would be able to get info on Dyson too – if you know who to ask 😉

What a farse. Just what do they hope to achieve I wonder? All they will achieve is that eventually, everyone will stop selling the product and all engineers will advise customers to steer clear of them because you can’t get them repaired.

The part number I quoted is correct Andy,….Dave.

That reminds me of the chap who says he’s only ever made one mistake in his life, and that was when he thought he’d got something wrong – and it turned out he hadn’t : hehe 🙂

Thanks Dave. Where did you get the number from btw Did they put the right part breakdown on a dishwasher somewhere? The last lot of Hoover / Candy manuals have more mistakes in it than I’ve ever seen.

The stat is the front one btw. There’s another one at the back.

Now that would annoy the hell out of me K 🙂 The Tom Tom go has a loud enough volume setting to be audible over the radio but the 3D map is so good you don’t need audible instructions. I have it set just loud enough to hear Tom giving further instructions and I glance accross at the 3D map.

It sounds like in your situation, supplying for engineers it would be better to have something fixed. I didn’t intend to dismiss the product – just show an alternative for anyone considering buying into the GSP (for themselves) with a personal recommendation thrown in 🙂

    Re: SatNav

It’s the only real downside, I can see your point about not trusting others to look after it when it’s so easily removable. I have to remove it every time I leave the vehicle. However, if you are self employed it is a good option and the removing each time is a small price to pay for it’s great service. I reckon it saves me at least half an hour each working day, as well as a lot of stress (as I tend to get lost very easily)
