    Re: Web Site

So some people want a web site, they want it to look nice butas long as a few people see it, it doesn’t matter about all the other thousands? Fair enough.

My point was simple, it would take very little to make a site like that dominant for the search terms he was wanting on all the significant search engines which is what he implied he wanted and indeed expected.

I should have kept my nose out but I was actually trying to help and give advice. I only quoted my positions to show that I did know what I was talking about after I felt his reply was dismissive of my expertise and his “proof” was that the site does well for a particular search term that there’s no competition for.

K, I already agreed with your point in my last post. I just said that his site could dominate (in other words do much, much better) with just a little work.

    Re: Web Site

“dishwasher repair somerset” is a search term that no one is competing for. There is no site that I can find that is competing for it, so it’s one of those search terms that even a very badly designed page can get high on search engines for. In fact most of the ones brought up by Yahoo and Google are awful. With a bit of search engine otimizing, I recon you could dominate all the search engines for that term.

The same goes for “washing machine repairs somerset” etc etc.

I agree with K about trying to get high for less definitive and fiercely competative search terms like “washing machine repairs” which I’m currently number 1 on google for, and number 1, 3 and 6 for on Yahoo. And “washing machine spares” which I’m also number one on Google for. I’m also number 6 out of 1,830,000 results for “washing machine” Thses kind of results need a lot of hard work and knowledge, but as K says, they aren’t necessary for a local repair company trying to raise their profile and attract custom in their local area. There may be thousands of people who search for “washing machine repairs”, but they will be distributed all over the UK.

Anyway, at long last I’ve revamped the site completely, this time I used a professional. Will take a week or two to get up on the high profile search engines. I’m sending Ken the music on MP3.

It’s much better than the old one, and much more professional-looking, I’m afraid the site is very unlikely get high in the search engine rankings at all though, as it’s not even remotely optimized for them.

Re: The Worst Machine Ever Built!

What about the Hoover top loader made in France? Was is A1004 or something? They had a design flaw where the machine would work with the drum not closed and many people set them going without closing the inner drum. Result was a jammed drum and a full strip down. You also had to remove the shell to do anything on the machine. I hated working on them.

I had a look there but didn’t see one for this model. The machine is at the tip now.

    Re: Hoover AC120 spinning constantly

I decided it would most probably require just a timer but wasn’t prepared to take the risk of it blowing again. As it happens, as soon as i mentioned the cost of the timer (trade price) he jumped in and said he might as well buy a new one. For personal reasons, I was going to fix it for no labour and cost price of part but even that’s not good enough these days!

    Re: Hoover AC120 spinning constantly

Would that cause the motor to spin continuously even on wash? Normally when I used to get tacho faults on the old Hoover’s it would spin for 15 seconds, then stop, then spin for 15 seconds etc. In other words the motor only spun when the timer gave it power. This one seems to spin indefinitely as soon as F1 level is activated.

Cheers for the reply. Is it when the motors are going down to earth or the armatures shorting out?

    The motor does run ok

    Re: Web Site

Your site doesn’t rank in the top 1000 results on Google for any of those keywords. You must be getting hits from somewhere though, but not those type of keywords 🙂 “Washing machine” for example brings up just under 2 million pages. It’s incredibly competative.

Do you check your logs to see where your traffic comes from? Maybe you just leave it to the third party. I don’t want to cause any trouble, I just can’t see how the site could rank well in any search engine as there’s virtually no content for search engines to pick up on. I just wondered if someone was charging for not doing much.

What keywords and phrases do they keep you on a high profile for? This service is usually expensive because it’s extremely hard work and search engine optimization is a very inexact science at the moment. I was just wondering as some keywords or phrases you wmay automatically do well for regardless of any intervention (if they aren’t competative)

That wouldn’t cause a rip in the bottom of the door seal though would it? There’s no damage to the part of the door seal near the drum lip.

The first thing I checked for was a broken spider but it all seemed quite firm. No play at all.
