Few will speak out if Domestic and General know who they are.
The reason is simple in that any work being done for them will be quickly removed. Statistics for the measurement of service will be altered so you look bad. There is more but it is best left there for the moment.
They are not the nice friendly company that they once were. Those days are gone. Like most it is now a culture of fear and all about the money as Ken puts it. Agents are too afraid to speak out because of the backlash that may well follow.
It is sad that DG have gone this way.

Any employee can misbehave.
Any subcontractor can within the terms of the agreement do whatever they like.
That includes stealing back lost customers from 0800 or using the 0800 advertising to get new ones. That is using some initiative and making the best of a bad situation.
It is not too good for 0800 of course that agents might be telling customers that they could have gotten the same for less by using a different phone number as I doubt too many people would be pleased to hear that. They might even perhaps think that 0800 are just robbers creaming it off the back of local businesses.
Not that we would ever do such a thing of course.

They cannot answer any of the points raised because it is seemingly the truth and you cannot defend the indefensible. I would suspect that’s why they are posting all the garbage, to try to bury the sensible parts that are probing where 0800 don’t want probed.
It would not surprise me if 0800 also tried to snatch contracts as well then direct that work to the franchises or employees to make it more valuable.
I would suggest any agent doing calls for 0800 had take a good look at it and wonder if it is a good idea to help them.
If it was me and I was only getting the stuff that the franchises or employees cannot do I would be charging handsomely for my services.

Proof positive of the practice then.
Dasa has yet to make any sort of comment to the trade in general on this subject and their endorsement of 0800 Repair. None to their members on this subject either so far as I can tell.
I think it is just Dasa policy that when they are faced with any sort of issue surrounding them that they bury their heads in the sand and hope it all goes away. Then wonder why they struggle to attract new members.
Or perhaps it is the case that Dasa represent more manufacturers and work providers than service companies. From where I sit that would appear to be the case.

I have had a few conversations regarding 0800 the past week or so despite this topic being quiet.
One thing that has come to light is the conversations with existing agents for JTM who where being sold a franchise but it is like the secret service. No details would be given over the phone about the prospect it was only to be done in person.
Even the dodgy double glazing salesmen have given that up as a lost cause as it just screams that you are being ripped off and pressured into buying into the deal.
For info a franchise as far as I can tell is not a good deal as even the contract guarantees pretty much nothing. I would not touch it.

I suspect that Dasa people may be busy with other things at the minute. A reply may be slow coming.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Yes that is correct so far as I know.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Yes that is what I am saying.
Yes so far as I know that is against the Dasa rules.
But it is not the first time that the rules have been broken there are more examples when the rules have been broken to fit an agenda.

Yes, I received one that says:

I would respond but unfortunately the mods ain’t just having to approve my posts they all censor what I write and take it out if context. I will not post again until they stop doing it. This from a site that champions free speech.Let me say this to you. Also members are samsung, repaircare, nesn. So it is not just 0800 that are members.
——————-It did seem a little strange and now I know why.
If this is the way that 0800 behave I have no respect for them at all.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Since Dasa lost £6000 last year according to the meeting notes then it could be the lack of funds that causes more damage.
The lack of new members and the loss of members already signed up only accelerates that damage.
This could be why signing up 0800 was so important to Dasa and why they have been so reluctant to do anything about it until absolutely forced to. The rumour goes that the current chairman simply told the council that a deal had been done with 0800 and that was it. Who was a party to this deal is unclear. What does seem apparent is that much of the Dasa council were not involved in it.
Whether this deal was done on the back of work being offered to those involved nobody knows but it would not surprise many as this sort of thing appears to have happened in the past.
But with the lack of even criticism of any of the providers and manufacturers especially those that attend Dasa meetings or are even on the council it is easy to see that Dasa’s opinion is often steered by the people either sitting at the top table or paying the associate member fees.

I see it was not just myself that received this then.
This is what I have been saying now for some time. Dasa’s handling of this affair has been nothing short of shocking and the disdain for this site and to a degree the WTA is plainly on display.
If it had not been that a WTA member had posted this up then I wonder who would be blamed ? I wonder how they will put the blame onto UKW and the WTA now and I do think that will happen.

If needed I will publish it all so that it remains in context.
There are several Dasa members that are deeply unhappy about this including council members.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Dasa any other business meeting notes:
——————————-
The matter of 0800 repairs was discussed. SD defined the issue as the possibility that a consumer searching the DASA web site could use the generic 0800 number to contact a service provider who is not a DASA member. Such a situation is not acceptable to the Association and there have been similar issues in the past where action was taken to prevent such an occurrence. 0800 have previously committed to enrol all their 0800 franchises as DASA members in their own right and in resolution to the current issue they will remove all references and access to the generic telephone number and 0800 web site and only list the individual franchisees with their particular telephone number and an indication of their operational area. Each individual number will go to the 0800 central reception but it will only be passed to the franchisee who owns the number and is registered as a DASA member. PG representing 0800 agreed with the proposed resolution and advised that he had commenced implementing the detail. SD said that the resolution must be implemented in full by the end of Sept 2011 and the matter reviewed at the next Council meeting. The council supported the resolution.
——————————-It would appear that this is an end to the matter.
Or is it?
I have read the entire thread about this from the Dasa website and I am not prepared to state whether I to am not a Dasa member but I would like to point out that I am tempted to publish it to demonstrate the disdain with which this website and the WTA is treated by Dasa.
Dasa’s handling of this matter has been disgraceful.

ParticipantRe: 0800 Repair
Not a single Jtm agent would sign it.
Many that may be in a position to work for Jtm in the future would not sign it.
Not one 0800 franchisee would sign it.
Probably not Dasa member would sign it.
Is there anyone left?
