ParticipantRe: Vehicle Tracker
My fleet has been equiped with trackers for four years now and I am about to upgrade to the latest web based system which shows all the vans on the map at once in real time and shows if they are stationery or moving and what post code they are at!
I find them very useful and only look at it if any engineer is giving me cause for concern. I can see at a glance how long he has spent on site and what time he starts work and finishes. It quickly highlights the engineers that are struggling and means you can analise training needs more accurately. Our system displays the engineers driving pattern and speed which helps identify the engineers that are hammering your vehicles, once they know you can see that they soon adjust there driving! There are many reports this device can create such as daily, weekly mileage reports and usage out of hours, weekend etc!
So in a nutshell I like it and would recommend it to others who want to increase efficiency in their business, it’s not cheap at £40 per van per month but I feel I get value for money and you only need to pass one extra job to the engineer to pay for it! Take a look at http://www.minorplanet.com 😀appboy
ParticipantRe: CDA
Just calculated the cost to us for Mr Kershaw’s profit making venture! I do a considerable amount of work for CDA plus a fair quantity via Whirlpool, I have calculated that we need a £7.00 per warranty job increase to make it worth our while.
I have left a message with Mr Kershaws office requesting that he call me back urgently. If the increase is not forthcoming we will give one months notice.Phil K 🙁

ParticipantRe: brandt
I have read the Brandt thread with interest and like most of you, I was also dumped by Brandt when they went to D & G. When I refused to touch the work as a D & G agent, I was thrown off the network and lost all my other D & G work.
I have made numerous requests to rejoin, but because I won’t do the Brandt work they don’t want to know!
I will of course offer my full support to you guys and the only thing I can do is refuse to pick up the work of any agent that takes strike action in my area. But be warned, D & G has a very good long term memory!!Good luck!

ParticipantRe: Cut Vinyl Graphics
Sounds like a good idea Ken.
I have had 10 new vans kitted out in the last twelve months, each van cost £275 plus vat to signwrite. That equates to £2,750 plus vat for me alone!
I would imagine the signwriter takes £200 profit per van and £75 being the cost of the materials etc.
Count me in for £275 that is equivellent to one van! What a bargain! 😀

ParticipantRe: Anglo Iberian
Just had a call from someone at Anglo asking if we wanted some local work, the rate is £35 electrical and £37 for gas.
Is this the current rate you are all on, and is there any breaking news about this company before I take it further?
Your comments would be most welcome! 😉

ParticipantRe: Did You Know This?
Thanks for the response Alex, I have already agreed to put this engineer on unpaid leave until he produces his new licence.
It is also interesting to know that you can’t sack the engineer for having his licence suspended, even if he had received a six month ban I would be expected to redeploy him in a non driving position! If you don’t offer him alternative employment and he takes you to I.T it could be deemed that you didn’t try hard enough to redeploy him and you could loose a lot of money!
I feel really proud to be an employer 😕

A bit more info regarding my driver:
Apparently he was caught by a mobile speed camera van near his home, he received the fine through the post and decided to contest the fine and opted for a court trial (in his own time).
Needles to say, he lost the case and was fined £60 plus court costs and three penalty points. He paid the fine and costs, but never sent his licence to the DVLA to have the points added, hence the two letters which I also believe were sent to his previous address. This is why his licence was suspended. ( DVLA also stated that the driver could face a fine of up to £1000 for not informing them of his change of address)!
Today, I have had to employ a driver to drive him round his service calls as we can’t afford to loose 50 service calls over the next week!
I am alittle annoyed to say the least! 👿

ParticipantRe: working together
Thank’s for all your support guys, I was a little nieve to say the least. The gobshite was actually sat next to me at a recent meeting and gave me a grilling about who I worked for and which post codes I covered!
I asked him what he thought of UKW and he went on to give it a right slagging off stating it was full of gobshites mouthing off, even though he has never looked at it!
I now find out the twat is after my post codes, I have worked hard for these and will not give em up without a fight!
The twat is also a (trusted) DASA member and treats a fellow member like this!
He is pissed off because like Ken correctly states “he backed the wrong horse”. Tough shit, he chose to stay loyal to Trubshaw and his army, he can now pay the price.
This guy can’t be trusted and DASA should open it’s eyes and look more closely at the tossers that seem to be making the right noises!

ParticipantRe: DASA
Speaking as an ex council member and current member of DASA, I would like to contribute my thoughts to this current debate.
I joined DASA after being introduced to the organisation by Kevin, shortly after I became a council member.
Like Kevin, I am passionate about our trade and I really felt that “Network DASA” was going to be the way forward and would make DASA an organisation that everyone would want to join.
However, behind the scenes all was not well, the backbone of DASA was extremely weak and the lack of communication was frustrating to say the least. Any useful dialect always took place on the night before the meeting over a pint and a meal, unfortunately the topics were never carried forward to the meetings and very little of any interest was discussed.
It was thanks to people like Kevin who stood up and asked for members votes on emotive topics and it was always he who contacted members to update us with progress on current projects. This was always appreciated, as I was paying several hundred pounds a year to be a member and I could see things happening that would eventually benefit DASA and ALL of its members, I was proud to be a member.
To survive, DASA now needs a dedicated and dynamic leader who will be on the payroll and available full time. This person would be responsible for the effective communication to all members and would be responsible for negotiating for trade work for members. Meetings could be regionalised to attract new faces and the AGM should be an event that every member would want to attend.
I look forward to reading the minutes of the AGM and my membership to DASA hangs in the balance. 🙁

ParticipantRe: e-Jobs
Great idea Ken, count me in for stickers on my thirteen vans. I have plenty of space around my own signage but they would have to be tailor made for individual companies to look professional and not just an after-thought.
I look forward to viewing some samples! 😀
