    Hi Wadey24,

The caps should be wired in Parallel !! for 2uf
Wiring caps in series will half the value.

    Let me know asap 🙂

    Hi Ozzy1

The compressor relay is a ‘change over’ relay.
When it’s not running the compressor, the contacts ‘change over’ and supply the 220volt power for the ‘defrost relay’

The Defrost circuit will not and can’t work if the compressor is running.

If the contacts have stuck, your fridge will never be able to defrost.

The ‘standby’ powers up another relay to turn off the whole fridge freezer, which will kill the signal to the compressor relay but not the 220 volt.

It does sound very much like the orange relay is sticking, probably due to burnt and arcing contacts.

That relay is available for about £3 from Farnell 117-5017 and they have free shipping 😀

    Hope this helps

    Re: Hoover VHD 9143/Triac fault

Do you mean dump the ‘money’ on you then run?

I tried it; one gets a brick wall for the first few calls then they cave in 🙂
    I think it’s fair.

I got a chip for a Panasonic inverter microwave from Chinamart, i had about 30 companies wanting to supply 1000 or more. I finally got the minimum order quantity down to 5 but £15 shipping.
    The chip was about £2

So how much is the chip?

    Hi,

I looked at the chip. Smart but complicated.

    Didn’t know about those.

You hit the nail on the head; don’t know if it’s faulty or not.

    Sorry

    Re: Hoover VHD 9143/Triac fault

    Hi,
    Thanks for that
I wonder if the manufactures had it ‘custom made’ for all their machines.

I get some components from chinamart, you can post what you need and suppliers get in touch. Only problem is – they usually want you to buy too many to get a good price.

Sorry I can’t help anymore then that.

The board sounds like a rip-off at £200

How old is it? If it’s only 2 years or so, the customer could get it repaired and bill the suppliers under the sale of goods act. The product ‘must be reasonably durable’
That means it should and can be expected to last 5 years!! That’s a fact and the ‘seller’ would have to pay the cost! Not the manufacture.

    Kind regards

    bb

    Hi Spimps,

Can you send me a pic?

    john-broderick@hotmail.com

I’m surprised it has 18 legs, are you sure it’s not a few triacs bolted to a heat-sink?

    Regards

    Hi Wadey24,

The RS part number for the front relay is 369-517

It has a life span of 15’000’000 cycles; if yours has been clicking a few times each hour for the last few months; you have until you’re 150 years old to replace it (approx) 😆

I’d leave it, and if your ice stops dispensing, we can pop to daddycools place once he’s fitted the front caps. 😀

    Hi Wadey24,
I’ll look into the part number of the relay but I think it will be ok.

I’ve mentioned to ‘The Powers That Be’ that C2 on the rear board can cause problems.

    1000uf
    6.3 volt
    3.5mm lead spacing

When all the other caps are failing, this C2 little bugger can cause Havoc all by itself and destroy your compressor relay if left long enough.
It’s not the ‘usual suspect’ but has been known to cause failures.

Your 1uf’s will cure your front board 🙂

    Hi raceboy 🙂
If the cheap ones fit, thare’s no other problem.

    Hi 2twotoes,

There is a kit on this forum which will solve all your problems.
It’s on page 25 and put together by ‘kwatt’ look for the duck avatar 🙂

I would recommend it for your list of faults.

You can actually use the bitbox ‘1uf’ caps if you have any left over, or use Farnell which is Free postage.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

    Hi Daddycool,
The front panel turns on the ice maker relay on the rear board which is relay 2
If this does actually turn on and ‘click on’ (you can hear it) you should see the red illumination inside the freezer on the ‘Infra Red’ panel on right side of freezer.
One can’t actually see ‘Infra Red’ it’s out of the visible spectrum so the designers have been kind enough to stick a red l.e.d in there just for us humans.
C1, C2, C14 & C15 on the front pcb are all in parallel as previously described in this huge forum.
I personally recommend replacing all four with two 1uf caps.
These caps (again previously mentioned) do not fit onto the board but can be stuck to the rear cover of the front pcb and the legs extended with a suitable piece of extension wire.
It works a treat and will do for many many years. 22.8 If you use the following lol
    RS 190-8450 x two
    Hope this helps
    Well actually it will 😀

    Hi Daddycool,

The Culprits / Perpetrators for most of your faults are indeed the caps you have just replaced. 😛

    The Flashing Display?
Do all the L.E.D’s flash (Freezer & Fridge) or is it just the Freezer showing hyphens flashing?

The latter is the freezer is not below 12 degrees which usually takes a couple of hours to come down.

I assume you know about the front caps?

    Hi Spimps,

I’ve also had one of those modules fail and not easily fixed as the brush motor type.

It’s to run an ‘Inductive’ motor.

EMW will certainly be able to help, Tony’s a very clued up man and very prompt and cheap too.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Thank you Raceboy (Steve) for your kind and funny comments. 😀
Yes, Raceboy had all the usual capacitor failures on the front & rear modules.
After replacing all the caps with the ‘blue sort’; his ‘Ice Maker Infra Red On Indicator’ failed to flash when opening the freezer door.
The compressor cut in at the time of fitting the new caps but, had an underlying fault that showed itself the following morning.
Long story short; Relay 2 is responsible for turning on the ice maker. It ‘clicked’ as it turned on and off but the contacts were open circuit. Couldn’t be bothered to strip it down but assume it was like relay 3. Anyway, I replaced it.
Relay 3 for the compressor (Orange one) had been clicking so long; the contacts were burnt so I replaced it with a sturdy ‘Omron’ from RS.
