Re: WMA Drum 5 yr Guarantee

Sent a personal note to IADOM, yes Arthur T was at Heaton Mersey from the days of Hotpoint moving to Station Road and prev at Chorlton, until his retirement in 1995.
Held in the highest regard by all that knew him.

Malcolm I believe is now at GIAS (Hoover) or was last I heard of him.
I hope he’s doing well wherever.

I relent on this one, as the wma bearing issue had a massive impact on my business in as much as when the machine was launched 2001, to compete with the sheds I was offering a retra 5 year warranty, paid for by me at a cost of say £50. The terms were as the retailer I would be paid for any repairs. However due to the nature of the failure retra took this back and sent the work to GDA due to cost. The failure rate was fantastic. It was not the work I lost in the first two years, but subsequently the customers I lost through becoming Hotpoint customers (due to drum bearings) and subsequently being canvassed via D&G and taken on insurance from that day on. I estimate we lost 400 + machines which would have been ours for servicing.
You can imagine the effect on my business that this has had, during the past years. But at least I didnt get all the recalls every 10 months till it got sorted.
On a more personal note was Arthur T a relation of yours.

Think of this the other way round – do Hotpoint tell their customers that you can do the repair for less than the parts warranty inc labour (£89.99) when its only the brushes worn, I think not.
Take out the under 5 year work and the work taken on by Insurance companies, the machines thrown out due to a low purchase price, the work load is lightened alot.
Your brother obviously wanted a quick job otherwise he would have dropped it in the car and bought it up north to you.
I say tell them they can have a call out via hotpoint, but charge for your time stood in their kitchen at their request. A fair days pay for a fair days work.. You know the score I am sure.. 💡

I would quote for the drum change at the normal rate, however I may then say of course you can get the repair via the parts warranty for a cost of £90 circa but you may have to wait depending on speed of service, often upto 2 weeks.
At £205 the issue is do I have the drum or replace the machine. 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} simply say yes will you do it as soon as possible.
Give them the facts, dont dwell on the price but sell your service. Its the difference that counts.
If the customer does query the price of the drum you can change the rear and support (dont forget the tub seals. The screws I buy a box (50)from RS for around £5

The setting for the tub torx screws 8NM when splitting the tub
and if you have to drill off the old support from the drum its worth buying decent quality 8mm s/steel drill bits from your engineering supplies

    Re: Hotpoint FF92P Frost Free

Get the engineer to check the Freezer thermistor, the older types absorbed moisture in the tip and misread, this could lead to a mis read in the freezer resulting in the freezer taking over and the fan not running.
The other problem could also be a blockage in the air vent (return) due to ice build up.
