Re: Amusing Anecdotes & Other Tales

A few years ago I was attending a D/W repair…got the kickplate off to find lots of the usual rubbish including a load of leaves (the machine happened to be right by the back door)…I saw a little movement in the leaves and noticed a little thin tail poking out from under one. I thought here we go again, another mouse getting free warmth and scraps of food so I turned to the lady of the house and asked if she was squeamish. She replied “Ohhhh, not another bloody LIZZARD!!!!!”…sure enough there it was! First time I’d ever seen one in this country…apparently the cat prefers them to mice 😆

This sounds most definitely like there is insufficient water in it…using the cleaning chemical will have little or no effect on this, the blockage being on the inlet side of the tub…usually in the transfer hose between sump and regulating tank…nice easy job for an engineer 😉

    Re: halogen ring fault

If there is no heat at all, its most likely the control switch as most halogen rings also have a conventional element in the ring as well…this is prolly the cheapest part too.
The halogen rings do have a temperature limiter which sometimes fail although these are often not supplied as a seperate spare but come with a complete ring….pricewise depends really on how many halogen bars in the ring…and of course the brand name on the product!
Either way, if the product is not very old and/or still looks good then it should be worth fixing.

…any chance the fz door has been left ajar overnight?…if so the evapourator will be blocked with ice. Often you can tell if it is by looking at the back wall inside the fz compartment – there should be no snow/ice on there at all. If there is, the cure is turn it off at the wall for 24 hours with the fz door left open. Switch on again and away you go.
Having said that, it is not unknown for these to have pcb faults as you’ve already found out, in which case it’s time to call the engineer!

….and come to think of it i’ve had one where the impellor had come loose and hence chewed…

Re: bosch sgs5312 poor wash pressure

The pump is not accessible without removing the base panel moulding, the pump is attched with one-shot crimp clips, the impellor housing although detachable from the pump body is moulded shut for good measure which means poor access to the impellor itself.
The poor pressure could conceivably be caused by a partially charging run capacitor too…
All in all, time to call an engineer? 😉

…and cross your fingers too!…dismantling is easy, a couple of torx screws to get the lid off (slides back), the fascia has a couple too behind the side flanges.
Did a few for brandt before they withdrew from the locals, most needed new boards and particularly the ribbons between them. If its a pyro you might like to check the lock too ;)…ohh and careful taking the knobs off, they break as soon as you touch them!

Re: Bosch washing machine won’t spin

Sounds very much like you still have a blockage there…the drain hose on the outside is easy to check but the chamber it fits to on the inside is a little more difficult…these can often hold a pint or so of scum (lovely lol).
Once cleaned and the machine is draining ok you could usefully run a washing machine descaling chemical through.
The long term solution is usually to use less detergent…the detergent manufacturers are very adept at getting us to use more than we require for most washes!

Re: Pinouts / faultfinding for Hotpoint pressure switch ?

    Hi Steve
….yess….duff press s/w…contact 1-2 should be made normally, moving to 1-3 under pressure, then returning on release of pressure!
Not a particularly common fault but easily (and cheaply) rectified.
    Don’t forget to unplug!!!

Regards to the second machine Simon….was the motor new or recon?…I’ve had a couple with dodgy TOC’s in the field coil…usually shows up when the motor has warmed up, causing the spin on wash prob.

    Re: mould in my WF02865Bosch

Useful to point out that most detergents (unless they state otherwise) contain a bleach that is temperature activated above 80c…using the 95c (whites) prog will activate it. The moulds will be killed by this and gradually removed along with the smell! Try using the whites prog at least once a month…if you don’t have any suitable articles to wash at this temp then run the machine empty but still add a little detergent (the source of the bleach). This is a common problem….we all tend to wash at lower temperatures these days for the sake of energy consumption etc
