…and while the lamp cover is off you can clean it by simmering in a pan of water with a little dishwasher detergent added…comes out like new!
When you put the cover back on just ‘nip’ it tight so you won’t have the problem again.

ParticipantRe: microwave oven recommendations
There are pro’s and con’s with everything stephen…microwave combi’s are quick to heat up (typically 150 degress C in 6-8 mins), economical to use and the quartz grills are all but instant…for grilling as well as browning. Against that, because most machines have a turntable and the door has to be shut for operation, you cannot grill on anything with a handle. This means handling a round dish (as supplied) with oven mitts so positioning of the machine is critical to make this easy.
My personal preference would be to have a micro/grill/oven combi…you can use it just as an oven, just as a micro or a combination of the two together which means very fast cooking with all the taste and texture of oven cooked food (baked spuds with crispy skins in under half an hour for example) and of course you can grill too.
As to makes, well Sharp and Panasonic are both good makes but as with most things…generally the more you pay the better you get! 😉

First thing to check is if the drain hose is fitted to the sink waste pipe as is often the case…if this is so then there may be a blockage in it. You could disconnect the machine drain hose from the sink and run it into a bucket to see if drains correctly. If it does then you know the blockage is in the sink waste pipe.
CliveP.S. DON’T empty the bucket down the sink until you’ve reconnected the machine drain pipe! 😉

ParticipantRe: Blomberg Fridge freezing up – help please
ohhh…and the bottom glass?…quickest and cheapest way is to go down to the glazers with the precise measurements (lengthxwidthxthickness) and get some cut…just ask them to grind the edges for you

ParticipantRe: Blomberg Fridge freezing up – help please
It should produce ice at the back inside of course, then automatically defrost it. If it continues to build ice then the acid test is if it freezes your food. If it does then you’re looking at a stat, but if it doesn’t then it may well be the compressor or it has a coolant leak. Check first that the door seals correctly all around, particularly at the bottom, and that the light goes off when you shut the door (you should just be able to see it before the door completely closes…doing it with the room light off helps). If it turns out to be a leak or weak compressor then its time for a very expensive repair, or more likely a new machine.

Gorenje also built the first MFI own brand cookers too (Hygena)…I had the authority to declare them a write off U/G if neccessary…MFI paid about eighty quid for the three hundred quid model back then!!! 😉

Thanks Dave…unfortunately the p No. is obliterated….the best I can decipher is model FBI5347G(or 6?)1L serial 41348509
The hinges are the type with a top and bottom fixing, not handed, with the outer glass having two bonded mountings adjacent to the bottom hinge fixings

ParticipantRe: Faulty Smeg Dishwasher
9 times out of 10 its a food blockage in the transfer pipe between the metering tank and the sump. You can do a DIY which will almost certainly clear it….lift out the filter in the base and at about the one o’clock position in the sump you’ll see a little black rubber flap (about 1 inch diameter) This can be carefully lifted out by its top to reveal a pipe opening. Push in something flexible but soft to clear the blockage (I use a piece of silicon tubing) It needs to be flexible because the pipe turns right 90 degrees just inside. Set the machine on a prog and as soon as its taken some water on board open the door and mop out the muck that has flushed. Replace the flap and filter and bob’s your uncle!

…and if memory serves (has been known to fail) the orange and brown are to the L/H stat…with blues to the right? All the stat kits give a sheet showing which stat is which and which goes where!
Best of luck
