I think it’s a Lancs thing Goaty, I’ve had three contacts so far, but all they’ve wanted was prices before coming out to even look. The last one didn’t want to pay £50 all inc for Bosch Brushes fitting, and they say Yorkshire men are tight!! 😉

On the odd occasion they will still insist that I do the repair if it is not much above Hotpoint’s minimum labour charge. For some strange reason that I cannot fathom, they seem to have more faith in me.
Funny that isn’t it. Must be something they read!!!
Same applies, here, but a lot of them have said in the past that theyr’e fed up with the machine as theyv’e already had the board etc replaced in the past. At one point we had five WMA’s in the workshop for recons 😯 .
I don’t think thats ever happened with a newish machine before!!Tony C

I’ve seen the top loaders in a scrap yard.
All thats left after you take out the motor is a nice blue plastic pedal bin.
There’s your niche in the market. Once It’s sh***ed it recycles itself.

IMO all reps will say either its “generally quiet” or “its Busy all round” whatever to agree with you and how you are doing. No rep is going to call in and say “well everyone else is doing real well, its just you thats failing”
All our reps ever say is “Sell this one it’s the dogs doodies”
And then say ” But we haven’t any in till next month” 🙄T C

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Washing Machine/Dryer
A lot of probs with thermal fuses are caused by the user not letting the timer advance through tumble cool. They tend to check if the clothes are dry during the cycle, then switch off the dryer….no air circulation, element still red hot , all the heat rises and POP!!!
Educating the customer is always a good start. Tell them
‘Buy a separate washer and dryer’ 😉 .
Blockages in the airflow can cause this also. Check the condenser.Tony C

ParticipantRe: hardest thing you to do
Hardest job.
About two weeks into my training I had a hotpoint 95 bearing job to do.
No big deal you might think.
This machine was on a landing….on a shelf four feet up in the air, with about three inches at the sides and a foot at the back. By myself with an old dear who was the neighbour. I did the job up there 🙄
Must’ve been slimmer then 😥Knowing better now I should have told them to get it into a suitable position to do the job.

Thanks for your posts on this one.
In the end we took the fridge back with refund less handling fee.Trading Standards stated that after they pay the deposit on an item for order, if they then cancel they are in breech of contract and that you can
keep the deposit and sue for loss of profit. So when she had paid the full amount on delivery, unless the goods were faulty, she had no legal right to a refund of any kind.As Dave stated before a reccomend is just that. if she then orders on your reccomendation without looking into it further, that’s their problem as such, not yours.
So i need to get my 😈 head on when dealing with these ‘customers’.

ParticipantRe: Expensive Mistake.
As with Penguins post, I had the same thing about a year ago (I think i put up a post) luckily we had so many written off WMA cash calls( usually bearings) where they wanted a new machine that we have a few s/h boards kicking around for testing, so it doesnt hurt as much when they go pop while you’re ordering the new one 😉
Mosy expensive cock up was a Stoves b.u double oven job last year. Couldn’t get the thing to come out of auto although power hadn’t been off.
Cost around £100 and turned out to be the travel on one of the buttons,
even though they all seemed ok after I swapped them around.

Went to see U2 in Manchester ( can we claim it back as a works do 😉 ). Absolutely flippin’ brilliant, what a back catalogue to choose from, even playing Electric Co from first album. First band on The Bravery very good too, even when the whole out front went off twice during their set.

P.S. Good band on at the Kings in Clitheroe tonight if anyones around that area.Plug plug 😉
