Part number 1320932161 should be around £60 ex VAT trade 😉

Replacing the PCB seems the only option then 🙁

Hmm, perhaps the heater has failed after all then 😕

Let us know his findings please 🙂

12 months is standard to be honest. You could ask if he will offer a longer guarantee for a higher fee perhaps ? 😉

Re: Smeg retro fridge freezer-should I get it fixed?

The price for replacement is pretty much OK to be honest. It’s not a DIY job though as the system has to be opened and regassed etc.

You are to an extent paying for the styling, these are made by Gorenje for Smeg and a standard unit of similar size would coust around £250 normally.

As far as longevity goes, that’s anyones guess really but the compressor is the most expensive component to replace so you shouldn’t be faced with another bill that size again unless the replacement fails but it should have some form of guarantee on it.

    Hope that helps 🙂

    The part number should be 4812 310 28197 (superseded from 4812 214 58114).

John should be able to confirm if it’s the later type I hope but the 310 in the middle of a Whirlpool part number normally indicates a kit or modification 🙂

In that case it may not be the heater, I was thinking that if the water was tepid it may well have been from your own hot water supply.

Heaters on the whole either work or they don’t so it would appear more like a control problem.

Check the repairs@ link below for an engineer in your area, costs can be discussed directly as they vary quite a bit 🙂

I’m intrigued at the UKW member phoning you, whoever it is will have obviously passed any bad press back to them or is employed by them now as I for one haven’t to my knowledge given any SP employees trade access nor have I been asked 😕

The heater may have failed, it’s not connected to your hot water supply instead of the cold is it by any chance ?

That may explian the tepid water anyway.

Is this all behind the control panel ? They form an “L” shape if viewed from the side.

If it is it comes as a complete assembly, part number 8996619267801 at £280 odd ex VAT list 😯 😯

I’d pass the customer back to Electrolux to be honest, let them finish the job 😉
