Even if anyone’s not sure what that particular part is they want shot of, photo it anyway and send it to me if you like, I’l try and identify it if I can.

Unfortunatley I am unable to upload photo’s and stuff to the shop images file, but I can add products, so a desription will do sometimes if anyone wants to send me any, I can always “find” a photo 😉

Cam wrote:Thanks for that info – but do employers take these kind of courses seriously?

I certainly would, sadly there are very few appliance service courses available nationally, there are none at all in this area as far as I am aware.

Cam wrote:I know DASA is in the process of developing new qualifications and I presume that these would be approved by potential employers.

I think this has now ceased due to the recent changes withing DASA, i.e. Chris Hayter is no longer “director”.

Last night I guess, they weren’t there yesterday (I dont think anyway) 😕

Would it not be easier to have one general international forum ? It would be easier to expand on rather than have to compact down any loose threads that may appear if they don’t prove popular.

    Re: Servis Tumble Dryer

Changing the topic slightly towards the commercial premises and domestic appliance slant.

Recently we got involved in a case where a major retailer had sold a nursing home a range cooker, subsequently they refused to honour the extended warranty, the policy was refunded but the customer took it a step further maintaining they had told the sales staff where the appliance was going and the use it was going to get.

They won, the retailer settled two days before the court hearing and got a full refund on the appliance and compensation towards the chargeable repairs we had carried out.

Sometimes reconfiguring the pcb will do the trick, other times the main pcb will need replacing, which means configuring that one afterwards. I’ve never replaced the user pcb on any of these, but I’m sure some have failed.

    Thanks Martin. 😀

Are they still in existence ? I substituted the 0181 for 0208 for the London code and got a residential house 😯

Google doesn’t pull anything much up on them either.

In the meantime, I managed to get hold of the area sales rep’s number and have left him a message, so let’s see what he can come up with 🙂

They are, which is why I’m gonna keep whinging about it 😉

I emailed the Spanish factory about this part (I even took the trouble to use Google to translate for me so they could read it). As yet no reply.

    Re: Wages

I don’t entirely disagree Martin, but, as Alex mentioned, I also listen to all applicants, and would welcome with open arms any new blood to the trade who may take an interest in this profession. The underlying problem is that as a poorly funded industry in general, we don’t have the cash to pay “top dollar” to the young and eager and they are put off by the low starting wage.

Generally if one of the 1st questions asked of me is “How much will I be paid ?” I will loose interest in even the prospect of offering employment, I know the money matters to us all but it shouldn’t be the be all and end all of a profession.

I am only too happy to train youngsters with an interest in this trade, three of my best engineers have come straight from school, two are still here, one left to go to Comet for a higher salary but worse working conditions (another problem).

Working for a manfucturer does not put many in good stead for the muti-skilled engineer as in general they will only get to repair a couple of brands, even though they may be looking at a few different named appliances, ultimately they will all come from the same factory so will gain little knowledege in the way of multi branded appliance repairs.

Sadly the way the industry is presently there is little spare cash in the bank to invest in training, so in the main we can only pay a low starting wage, but once the engineer has gained a few skills and the trainee becomes able to earn some money then things start to happen, this can take a while though.

I’m not trying to be a doom and gloom merchant with this, just realistic with the way I see it at the moment. If we’re unrealistic in the way we encourage new people in to the trade, they will become dissolusioned and will paint a poor general picture.

Things are on the up though, appliance prices seem to have levelled out of late stopping the ridiculous price reductions we have seen giving an unrealisticly low retail price of the product which ultimatly effects the amount of cash out there in the industry.

There, I feel better now 😉

    Re: Zanussi E90 Error Code

Sorry I moved these two as I was trying to keep the “known error codes” thread to just that, otherwise it gets a little choked with other stuff.

Anyway E90 shown to the cusomer is either “real” error code E93 or E94 both of which are config errors with the main/display pcb’s.

    Cornwell,

It’s £141.80 list price, ex VAT.

If you phone Servevast on 0870 444 7002 they should be able to offer you some discount on that, if not, let me know I can order and post for you.

    Re: Electrue/NESN

As this meeting appears to be of such high importance and obviously has financial implications for the whole network, I am appalled to see that shareholders have not been invited or at least been kept informed on the current situation, whatever that may be.

Whatever it is though, it doesn’t look too clever given the urgency and notice period given.

Or perhaps that was intentional 😕
