John, re-check the model number (WM32S does not exist, but there is a WM32P/A/W and then there is the WMA range), if it is a WMA32S then a drum complete is one option, part number 1603410, £128.15 list price ex vat. You can also get the individual parts though.

No, you need to purchase the Merloni DVD/CD rom, it covers all Merloni and GDA appliances, about £40 IIRC.

I have to agree with Chris there, we do a lot of work for various letting agents in our area, and as mentioned, they just want a quick solution to a problem most of the time, so getting some back-up with a supply of replacement appliances is also quite handy, if you don’t already retail that is.

I took the step a few weeks ago of emailing all the letting agents in our area by using the weekly property supplement in our local newspaper, it worked quite well, a lot of letting agents struggle to find anyone to take on the whole appliance repair/replacements for them, especially the smaller local one’s.

I think pretty much everyone will have a college or university somewhere in their patch, either of these will mean a huge amount of student lets, usually all in the same area, a lucrative market if you can get in on it 😀

😳 Correct, £35.84 is the correct rate, the £37.60 I was thinking of was a completely different contract. Appologies.

Kentish, AL3 is a “water heating timeout” error, where the water hasn’t reached the correct temperature within 45 minutes. Here are the possible scenarios from the Zanussi service manual.

    a) Heating element interrupted
    b) Safety thermostat open
    c) Wiring interrupted / disconnected
    d) NTC sensor incorrectly positioned / Poor
    thermal contact
    e) Insufficient water circulation

    Hope that helps a bit.

Alex, we don’t do any work directly for MFI, but like you we do get the odd few via AIS. Thing is though, I have been invoicing them at £37.60 for those calls, and we have been getting paid that ammount.

Re: CORGI Training for engineers…maybe not!

OK, I got a bit of time today to compose this planned email. I have not sent it to Corgi yet as I would appreciate any input anyone has before that, mainly as I am not personally facing this problem so my depth of knowledge is limited to what I am being told and what information there is on the Corgi website and the Gas installer Magazine. If there are any mistakes, additions etc, post them up and I will amend the email before I send it.

    Dave.

    Dear Sir/Madam

I contacted Corgi before Christmas with regard to a website http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk which I am a part of, set up for the use of the white goods trade service industry. I asked at the time for some information regarding the new structure of ACS training, particularly with respect to new candidates. To date I have only received an email promising some form of feedback from Corgi, please see below:

Kerri E Musson wrote: I am writing in response to your email (as copied below). I am afraid that you would not be able to reproduce the article which appeared in Gas Installer magazine as the magazine is covered under copywrite. I will discuss the wider issue with colleagues and get back to you later this week regarding your further requests. It is possible that our Press Officer may be able to provide some text for the website in due course.

It seems from the general feedback from the uk white goods website we have been receiving that there is a lot of confusion and displeasure over this new structure. Most of the people who are rather disturbed by the new requirements are very experienced service engineers and have carried out service on white goods and associated appliances for many years. But it seems now, that if they wish to expand their field of expertise in to gas, many ACS centres are unwilling to accept them without some form of extended training which to my mind is wholly unfair and an expensive and time consuming exercise with no guaranteed outcome. Admittedly, it has always been a risk (the ACS/ACOP trainee’s) to take one of the standard cources, there is and never should be a guaranteed pass, but to add to this , yet another burden, both financialy and time wise only adds to the lack of interest in engineers becoming gas qualified.

I am soon to carry out a poll on the uk white goods site which is viewed by members of the white goods trade in general including manufacturers, insurance companies and national service networks regarding this matter, so if you have any feedback to offer it would be very much appreciated. I also made at the time of my initial contact with Corgi an offer to become a member of the site and the trade forums so that the issues could be answered directly, that offer of course, still remains.

    Yours Sincerely.

    Dave Conway.

Re: Which Spares Supplier(Wholesaler) is best ?

Yes I have to agree that SEME’s delivery service is excellent, but I don’t find their prices that good, apart from the odd special offer. Perhaps it is down to the discount levels we recieve from Connect and Washvac, bearing in mind we retail spares so our turnover with both is fairly high.

I also tend to order the GDA specials now, if I recall they now offer retail account holders the same levels of discount as they give wholesalers, which is good for large purchases of fast turnover spares like brushes and door seals etc, but presently their delivery service leaves much to be desired since Merloni spares were moved to Peterborough. Although I have seen an improvement over the last week or so.

As far as instant stock and prices go, Connections is instant and can be carried out on either single items or a whole order, it also gives due dates on backorders, you can request special part numbers with it, and best of all it’s free, which to my knowledge Stocklink still isn’t. I have no intention of using a software system that any Wholesaler sees fit to charge it’s account holders for, especially as the only gain from it is increased turnover, for them !

In fact, as Washvac and Connect both have access to these forums, a little input from both or either would be a nice thing.

It’s not quite that old, but yes I have checked with Electrolux and the inner part is definitely obsolete, in fact I tried to get one last year and failed, so the outlook is not good i’m afraid.

Re: Diplomat intergrated dishwahser ADP 8132

Hi John, this is an error which occurs occasionally with these models. The PCB needs to be reconfigured to recognise which type of pressure system it has fitted. Generally no parts are required to rectify this, but you will need an engineer with the relevent information supplied by MFI to sort it out for you.

Please put you’re postal code area and I’m sure someone here will be be able to assist further should you decide to call an engineer.

    Hope this helps.

    Dave.
