Is it really worth it . Nothing major has yet gone wrong. it’s been rumbling for a few years, so possibly the shaft is worn. That would possibly mean new drum . And these days ,I’m not up to doing it myself. So is the cost of labour /parts ( including possibly new drum/shaft) worth it . Mrs is really taken by the one you commented on in other forum ( LG ), but still trying to decipher your answer. Any idea of worst cost scenario . ( Parts/labour) .dave_h

Martin ,thank you .We sort of thought that with play in drum ,and noise on full spin . Got a question on the new machine advice section on replacement ,but not sure of whether reply was “forget it” or “good bet” .

ParticipantRe: LGF1480YD5 WASHER DRYER
Does that mean a recommendation. I’ve always asked the pros same question when buying white goods “how often do you see it back for repair” .The one they admit to never seeing is the one I buy. Never failed yet. Mrs gets approx 13 years to a machine .

Thanks K-so unless anyone knows of odies on his one ,looks like it’s a throw away job . no loss it was one our daughter gave us when the Kelvinator starte playing up an getting near Xmas ,we thought it might give us some extra space .

ParticipantRe: kelvinator
After this as last post -switched it off ,left it overnight.Switched it back on and since then it’s worked fine .Possibly because daughter gave us their spare ,which is sitting waiting -just in case .

ParticipantRe: kelvinator
Now ,another appeal for help on same model .Other day ,temp in freezer compartment rose to around -4, noticed by ice cream melting ,and no real sound of motor etc working .Tried moving control to max and left overnight .Temp then dropped to circa -20 ,and machine has worked ok since then .Should i be looking to replace ,or is this normal for this model .Never noticed it doing this before in the few years we’ve had it .

ParticipantRe: kelvinator
Thanks for that – so normal ,as normal for a Kelvinator .Just found the receipt with part no -in case that helps out-
It was a comet job -possibly some of this is Comet part no etc –

ParticipantRe: looking of user manual or instruction guide
Strangely enough Bing search brings up the model for various spares, wuth Creda and Hotpoint .At one time GEC and Hotpoint/Creda were part of the same group ( we used to get discounts on Hotpoint working for GEC) ( loooong time ago)

Re not taking from drawer – had this problem( and build up of powder /=etc) and cured by doing a maintenance wash @60 with Dr becks – we have a problem in this area ( or is it a fudge by water authority ) of black algae forming at air/water boundary, causing problems .Drawer clean with Milton solution works .

ParticipantRe: ZANUSSI FJS1397W – WASHING MACHINE – 1250 SPIN – 5KG
Suspect it needs supplies to both inputs( but it’s got a heater ,so it would heat cold up to temp) .I’ve forgotten to switch on hot at times and had funny results .Can’t speak highly enough of ours -almost a teenager now and apart from a couple of pump motors and a blocked pressure sensor it’s been a well used reliable machine . It can suffer from algae build-up in the powder tray( black organisms cured with Milton) and does benefit from a purge ( we use Asda machineclean ,or something to that name-think it’s called Dr beck or similar ) on a regular basis .DON’T forget to clean out the filter ( bottom front of MC ) on a regular basis .-oh and make sure it’s set level – otherwise it will dance across floor .Good luck .

ParticipantRe: maintenance wash
Our Zanussi suffers from a mould growth problem ,identified by our water board as caused by bacterial growth -supposedly common .We also live in a hard water area .We’ve found that a washing machine cleaner sold n Asda is helpful in keeping the mould and lime scale at bay .Called something like Dr beckman -wife swears by it – costs a couple of quid – pour into dispenser tray, do 60 degree wash and you’ll notice the difference .Water board did suggest something like baby steriliser solution for anti mould .

ParticipantRe: Who provides ISE warranty?
Pretty certain that D & G do warranties for most makes – might be worth a call – they do quote an 0870 number ,but you’ll find that there’s a national number-ETC

Only one problem with Guiness – especially if you don’t normally drink it /particularly care for it – it’s all that’s on offer -you may think that the bottom’s fallen out of your world ,and if you drink too much ,then next day – you wonder if world is falling out of …..you know where 😯 😯
