ParticipantRe: First Time Buyer
My advice would be to seek out your local independant retailer and let them advise you on appliances. My experience is that howdens kitchens are cheep and poor quality sold by low wage sales people who earn high commissions on the sales, the design is basic and more often than not dosnt fit.
To say that a cheep oven is the same as a more expensive one would depend on how you cook, the better the oven the better it will cook and in my experience cheeper appliances always fail sooner than a premium product on average. Ask someone who uses a Zug oven for instance and they will tell you how well it cooks.
If the howdens kitchen suits you then have it but buy better appliances, ie bosch, neff, etc. the fitter should fit the appliances as he fits the kitchen, not normally at a later date.

ParticipantRe: Washer Heaters
Only ever changed the heater if the rubber grommet is perished, all others fit in nicely, then again we are in a soft water area down here.
This scenario could be applied to so many things though, best not reuse the backplate after fitting new bearings, it might not be flat and could leak or fracture, same as rear half drum, soap and sump hoses, changing the carbons and not the holders, door seals without changing the clip that holds it on, the list could go on!
I think its a case of deciding whats best when in site, no correct way and no wrong way and we can all recall something bad happening when we didnt do something that some one else would have done!Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ParticipantRe: dishwasher buying advice
Well to explain the answer would take a few pages, but in short hot fill is good if you have cheep hot water available ,ie ground source etc. It will save energy. The reason you have cold fill is that hot water is normally above some of the temputures on some programmes, so the machine will heat it it self but if you have free hot water there is no advantage selecting a 45 wash,.
ISE machines have no rivals when it is based on cost, performance and warranty, even miele cant match these criteria now, unless you add the £149 cost of extending the warranty to 10 years, all ISE ‘s have a 10 year warranty!

You can put a plate on the other side and fix the element screws in a different position. Done it a few times

ParticipantRe: Looking for a rear vented tumble dryer
It is difficult to know where some appliances are made, thats why i try to recommend brands that are very well known and established, this i think gives the customer confidence that should the appliance breakdown in 2, 3,4 or even 10 years the parts are likely to be available and the appliance will go on being of service and not be scrapped early in its life, this then continues to provide work for us repairers and at the same time save the customer money and the planets resources!

ParticipantRe: Looking for a rear vented tumble dryer
Well i have a shelf full of bosch laundry and not one is made in china, bosch do have a factory fully owned and built by BSH group, makes quality appliances and worth buying by any customer. You can not seriously be comparing this product to a Bosch?
