Of course it is Doc, no-one here is condoning it either.

If think that is incorrect also, maybe you should reread the posts.

    Indesit W????, Serial No ????
To call and inspect machine and note that drum bearings have collapsed, black oil and rust marks everywhere. Machine unsafe to continue using. Requires new Tub and Drum Assembly.
    Labour and parts = £?????

First part in bold would be a complete lie, so lots of harm done as no matter how you dress it up its a lie! As its a lie it wouldnt sit well in a court or with trading standards, again sorry if this bothers people but i did not write the above post, i am mearly commenting on it.

Well at least you have answered my points and they all make common sense and that is my point in all of this, but i also accept that it dosnt still make your opinions right, i just agree mostly with them. Others wont say weather they agree or not and some say they disagree in the way they reply which creates the debate.

I dont have a problem with you Ken, dont know why you say that, i just think sometimes you should just answer some questions instaed of sitting on the fence.
I didnt answer the question because from the posts of others you can see that they are complaining about what i said, and as usual on here the pack follows the ones that seem to have the loudest precence on here, almost to the point that they dont question them, they are in awe of them!

    Re: I should cocoa!

Okay Robra, now you are getting personal!
I am not looking down on anyone! I have just stated what i think is wrong, YOU NEED TO READ THE POSTS! I and my engineers can also estimate what a repair cost would be, BUT my point is this:- would you write an estimate for a repair, when you havent even seen the machine, that will then be used by an insurance company as a basis of an action regarding the quality of a machine, bearing in mind it could find its way in to a court action or in the hands of Trading Standards???? And also charge for it. If the answer is yes then i am sorry i dont agree with it.

I could now tell you to go do something, but i am not that way inclined.

But in reality, in such circumstances, I think I would risk putting in an estimate, quote even, for the cost of bearings + inner drum replacement (or welded drum if appropriate). I don’t think the insurance company would be very likely to take me to court, even if they did bother subsequently getting a second opinion and I turned out to be wrong.
The only way I would consider I had come unstuck is if they asked me to do the b****y job! But then I could just say I was too busy!
    Mike.

I think YOU have stated that you would give an insurance estimate with out seeing the appliance!!
I dont make accusations or assumptions, i am making my comments on what others have wrote and YOU wrote the above not me! And by the same token, dont write things on a forum that is read by 1000 odd people if you dont want any one to respond!! IT WORKS BOTH WAYS.

Oh and a small point, its only you that has taken offence, why is that?

    Re: I should cocoa!

As usual, serious points overlooked, and more interest in trying to trip me up on things, but that is what you get when your in the school playground surrounded by those with the loudest voices!

I could have predicted what your response would have been Ken, but indulge me, give me and all others out there your opinion on the 4 points i have stated, go on answer them, ( i could also predict your response on that too)

Oh and by the way there is many on here who could diagnose a fault in 80{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of cases, but that is not what i was concerned about, but you know that dont you.

Having all the Knowledge in the world dosnt make you competent. i have met many people that have all the qualifications and knowledge for their profession, but when it came down to the practical they just wasnt that good!

    Re: I should cocoa!

There seems to be a lot of jumpy people out there, read through my posts and then tell me if i have referred to anyone in particular, go on read the posts! Thats right i havnt named any one!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now read the threads that have the posts in about the subjects i talk about, yes bingo!, the writing is on the wall, i have only highlighted what others have talked about!!

I JUST DONT AGREE WITH SOME OF THE PRACTICES OTHERS USE! MY OPINION, YOU CANT TALK ABOUT FREEDOM OF SPEECH ON HERE THEN COMPLAIN WHEN OTHERS EXERCISE THAT RIGHT.

Oh and by the way, trading standards dosnt make any allowances to descriminate between customers reference services/charges, so to do so would be perhaps an offence.

    Re: I should cocoa!

Martin- this is the last i am going to say on this topic, you know exactly what i was saying in my post, it was crystal clear, you are just trying to wind me up and muddy the waters and as usual you twist the subject to prolong the post and there is only one winner in this.
So to recap what me beef is for all out there :-

    1) i think it is wrong to steal customers property
    2) i think it is wrong to charge one customer more than another simply
because you think they are a K##B
    3) i think its wrong to give insurance estimates when a machine hasnt even been seen
    4) i think its wrong to not have basic test and safty equipment

THE ABOVE IS MY POINT AND OPINION,

    Re: I should cocoa!

I see as usual posters dont understand my point or just dont read the posts, and then my serious post is devalued and turned into a joke.
The post about the servis washing machine is not the same point i am stating, but i will tell you what you should do and that is give your honest opinion and let the customer decide what is best based on the machine and your HONEST opinion, the customer then pays you.

Posts about business ethics etc is not really what i am talking about, i was replying and commenting on other posters on here stating how the rob customers, inflate prices, give false estimates based on guesses and dont carry basic test equipment!!
As usual a serious post belittled!

    Re: I should cocoa!

Ufortunatley using the word “professionalism” and charging difficult customers more money is not the way forward and i believe would raise the eyebrows of the Trading Standards.
This is of course my opinion and how i run my business is totally my business. but i dont charge some customers more than others, i dont steel customers property from thier pumps etc, i dont give insurance estimates for repairs without inspecting the machine, and we do have and use suitable test and safty equipment, but hey this is probably why i dont make as much money as others.
I am sorry but i know i am wrong on some stuff and i can accept that, but i dont care who you are and how long your been in the game, i will never agree thats its right to do any of the above!
If any of you think the above is wrong then please tell!

    Re: I should cocoa!

Martin – i am suggesting that some members do not follow the CODE. They become members to get the street cred,

I agree nothing wrong giving a quote over the phone if a customer asks how much ,say,to fit a pump etc, what i consider wrong is giving a quote after hearing a fault explanation over the phone that would then be used to rustle the feathers of a retailer or insurance company and then take a payment!
And if you look at other topics you see that some even talk about charging some customers more than others, just because they dont like the way they sound on the phone!

I have yet to meet an engineer who can list the parts neccessary for a repair with out actually lokking at the machine and taking the top and back off!

And yes all professions have the rogues, i just cant stand people who actually tell all about their unscrupulus actions when placed in a position of trust in a customers house! I dont get it and never will.
