hi sean, it’s no good re-charging the fridge if the compressor’s on it’s way out.
an engineer would be able to come along, put a gauge on the system and according to the pressure readings on the gauge, tell you exactly what’s wrong with the system.localised icing up would also be concurrent with a system fault.
is the too warm indicator in it’s correct position?
another thought, is the fridge adequately ventilated?ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Zanussi Thermostat Problem
hi sean, this is definately not a thermostat fault.
the compressor that pumps the refrigerant around the system only has one speed. that is to say, it’s either on or off.
increasing the thermostat setting doesn’t give you more ‘power’, it just increases the run time of the compressor and thus, when the system is healthy, refrigerates more.
this sounds like either a compressor fault or a gas level fault, either of which i’m afraid, isn’t normally within the capabilities of the most adept diy man.
obviously, if it’s in nice condition, you may think it worthwhile to call out an engineer. if not, it sounds like curtains mate.ELDAR59

there’s also the chance here that the door latch pin isn’t located properly.
it would be a shame to scrap the lg in favour of the servis if this is the case.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: tecnik element

ParticipantRe: another joke.
A Hawaiian Woodpecker and a Canadian woodpecker were arguing about which place had the toughest trees.
The Hawaiian woodpecker said that they had a tree that no woodpecker could peck. The Canadian woodpecker challenged him and promptly pecked a hole in the tree with no problem.
The Hawaiian woodpecker was in awe.
The Canadian woodpecker then challenged the Hawaiian woodpecker to peck a Canadian tree that was absolutely unpeckable.
The Hawaiian woodpecker expressed confidence that he could do it and accepted the challenge.
After flying to Canada, the Hawaiian woodpecker successfully pecked the tree with no problem.
The two woodpeckers were now confused. How is it that the Canadian woodpecker was able to peck the Hawaiian tree and the Hawaiian woodpecker was able to peck the Canadian tree when neither one was able to peck the tree in their own country? After much woodpeckering, they both came to the same conclusion:
Your pecker is always harder when you’re away from home.

ParticipantRe: Noise levels in domestic Freezers
the decibel rating for the appliance, should be on the energy rating sticker that you get when you purchase the appliance.
of course not everyone has a decibel meter, so, as martin says, it would be a good idea to have it checked out.
noises are often just the pipework of the appliance vibrating against either the cabinet or some other pipework. still, better to have it checked out.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: PCB Repairs
much better to send for a pcb (if it’s in stock) then send the old one as replacement.
i find this works for me, i used the service last week for a fridge module.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: PCB Repairs
hi lee, i’ve used qer for about 12 years now and find them ok.
next day service is good, but you’ve got to send them the old module back sharpish, otherwise you get charged again.
certainly better than paying new prices and, depending on the age/condition of the appliance, using a recon board would probably swing you the job, whereas a new one would be too expensive.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: built in appliances
this is exactly what i was getting at.
should we be paid to remove and refit, or should we insist that the appliance is on the floor for us to inspect / work on and leave it there when we leave the job?
would it be unreasonable or churlish to suggest such a thing?
ok, if it’s a chargeable job, then you can obviously build the cost in to the job, as i have done many times, but on a fixed fee?ELDAR59

ParticipantRe: built in appliances
despite having attended many built in appliances over the years, i can honestly say i have never given up on one, not to mention been daunted by one.
the price of a built in appliance is academic when you’re working for a 3rd party for a fixed fee.
agreed, that if it’s a private job, the customer will more or less expect to pay a good price to have a repair, but if you’re looking at these appliances all the time for a work provider, on a fixed fee, how far do you go?
quite often, taking the thing out and re-installing is equal , in time, to the job itself.so back to my original question, should we expect to be kitchen fitters as well as engineers?

ParticipantRe: MAYTAG T/L
hi mate, more than likely the snubber.
fairly easy to fit, not too expensive either, dave may be able to help you with the part?August 3, 2005 at 5:39 pm in reply to: Grill / Oven Element To Fit Homark Cooker 2100 / 900W #143895ELDAR59
