by insulation breaking, the engineer probably meant that the plastic lined rear wall of the fridge was coming away from the evaporator, this alone would render the appliance irreparable.
the evaporator is the unit behind the rear wall that freezes up.ELDAR59
ParticipantRe: Query Compressor Failure
hi mat, this sounds very much like compressor failure, yes.
the clicking you can hear is the thermal overload cut out cutting out.
the cut out operates if the compressor draws too much current or gets too hot.this is almost always a direct indication that the compressor has failed.

“I am very capable of repairing this myself I just didn’t know where the brushes were located on this model.”

ParticipantRe: Miele No Frost KF7542 SN
if the miele in question is a liebherr built appliance, F4 usually means a fault with the evaporator sensor, generally meaning engineer time.
of course, turning the whole unit off for a length of time, thereby defrosting the unit, will prove to be a temporary fix, but you’re still left with a faulty thermistor.
frost free appliances, by definition, do not have to be defrosted regularly, whether they’re expensive, or otherwise

ParticipantRe: UK Whitegoods Meeting 5
thoroughly enjoyed it and, as has been mentioned before, great to put faces to names.
excellent meeting and also excellent night on friday, everytime i see cher on tv now i’ll have a chuckle 😆 😆unfortunately, the experience was somewhat spoiled for me, by the total prat who ran into the back of me on the m6.
it looks like his car was totalled and i may be lucky to get mine back 😥
