Re: re: temperatures in cold appliances

hello, not only would this information vary with manufacturer, but there would be a whole host of other variables which would affect temperature rise or fall inside a cabinet.
i would think this is almost impossible to generally quantify.

the plus and minus signs are to show an increase or decrease, instead of using numbers, i.e. 1 – 7.

    Re: Electrolux Fridge/Freezer-Fridge temp prob

hi ham, it’s very difficult without seeing the appliance.
i don’t think it’s the thermostat. they usually fail off, very occasionally they fail on, but hardly ever go out of calibration.
i still think it’s either gas or possibly compressor fault.

    cheers.

hi greg, of course if the liner is away from the evaporator beneath it, then this could be a cause. unfortunately it also means the appliance is irreparable.

    cheers.

Re: Hotpoint Mistral FF91S Frost Free “Fridge Temp Prob

hi tempest, i’ve not looked at a mistral for a few years, so one of the other guys may be better placed to reply to you on this.
having said that, from memory, factors which affect the fridge temperature are, the light switch, which also controls the fan, the motorised baffle which controls the airflow from the freezer to the fridge and indeed the thermistors. i always thought it was the freezer evaporator thermistor that did the damage, but again, one of the other guys may know differently.
one question though, is the display still showing 3c, or does it rise above this?
sorry i cant be of more help to you.

    cheers.

Re: frdige not cooling. frigidaire FR34

hello greg, if i remember correctly, these fridges had a valve supplying refrigerant to one of the cabinets, possibly the fridge.
one thing to remember at this time of year though, the compressor will seem to be running a lot longer than normal, coping with the high ambient temperatures.
problems here could be the valve, gas or even compressor.
none of these problems are user serviceable, try the repairs@ feature on site.

    cheers.

    Re: Electrolux Fridge/Freezer-Fridge temp prob

hello ham, well, where to start?
first of all the compressor will not just switch back on after you’ve turned it off and you should never try doing that.
the compressor only has one ‘level’, in as much as it’s either on or off. the thermostat will normally determine the duty of it, if you turn the thermostat up, the compressor will run for longer, thereby lowering the temperature in the cabinet.
you say the fridge is running at 0-2’c, well thats perfectly acceptable, in fact it’s excellent.
    how old is the appliance?
without looking at it, it’s hard to diagnose and fridges are not really user serviceable. however, talking in terms of probability, does the light go out when you close the door? if the door is not making the switch, then the light would stay on. this would have the effect of raising the temperature in the cabinet. it may also be why the bulb has failed.
if the bulb and/or switch are ok, then your fault is likely to be either a gas ( shortage) fault or a compressor fault.

you could always try the repairs@ feature on this site.

    cheers.

    Re: another joke.

If Nelson’s navy had been subject to today’s regulatory environment, would the Battle of Trafalgar have proceeded more like this?

    “Order the signal, Hardy.”

    “Aye aye sir.”

“Hold on, that’s not what I dictated to the signal officer. What’s the meaning of this?”

    “Sorry sir?”

“England expects every person to do their duty – regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability. What sort of gobbledygook is this?”

“Admiralty policy, I’m afraid sir. We’re an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devil’s own job getting England past the censors, lest it be considered racist.”

“Gadzooks Hardy! Hand me my pipe and tobacco.”

“Sorry sir. All naval vessels have been designated smoke-free working environments.”

“In that case break open the rum rations. Let us splice the mainbrace to steel the men before battle.”

“The rum ration has been abolished, Admiral. It’s part of the Government’s policy on binge drinking.”

“Good heavens Hardy. I suppose we’d better get on with it. Full speed ahead.”

“I think you’ll find that there’s a 4 knot speed limit in this stretch of water.”

“Damn it man! We’re on the eve of the greatest sea battle in history. We must advance with all dispatch. Report from the crow’s nest please.”

    “That won’t be possible sir,”
    ”What?”

”Health and safety have closed the crow’s nest sir. No harness. And they say the rope ladder doesn’t meet regulations. They won’t let anyone up there until a proper scaffolding can be erected.”

”Then get me the ship’s carpenter without delay, Hardy.”

”He’s busy knocking up a wheelchair access to the fo’castle Admiral.”

“Wheelchair access? I’ve never heard anything so absurd.”

“Health and safety again sir. We have to provide a barrier free environment for the differently-abled.”

”Differently-abled? I’ve only one arm and one eye and I refuse to have the word mentioned. I didn’t rise to the rank of admiral by playing the disability card.”

“Actually sir, you did. The Royal Navy is under-represented in the areas of visual impairment and limb deficiency.”

”Whatever next? Give me full sail. The salt spray beckons.”

“A couple of problems there too sir. Health and safety won’t let the crew up the rigging without crash helmets. And they don’t want anyone breathing in too much salt – haven’t you seen the adverts?”

”I’ve never heard such infamy. Break out the cannon and tell the men to stand by to engage the enemy.”

“The men are a bit worried about shooting at anyone, Admiral.”

    “What? This is mutiny.”

”It’s not that sir. It’s just that they’re afraid of being charged with murder if they actually kill anyone. There are a couple of legal aid lawyers on board, watching everyone like hawks.”

“Then how are we to sink the Frenchies and the Spanish?”

    ”Actually sir, we’re not.”

    “We’re not?”

”No sir. The Frenchies and the Spaniards are our European partners now.

According to the Common Fisheries policy we shouldn’t even be in this stretch of water. We could get hit for a claim for compensation.”

”But you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil.”

“I wouldn’t let the ship’s diversity co-ordinator hear you saying that sir. You’ll be up on a disciplinary.”

“You must consider every man an enemy who speaks ill of your King.”

”Not any more, sir. We must be inclusive in this multicultural age. Now put on your Kevlar vest. It’s the rules.”

”Don’t tell me – health and safety. Whatever happened to rum, sodomy and the lash?”

“As I explained sir, rum is off the menu and there’s a ban on corporal punishment.”

    “What about sodomy?”

“I believe it’s to be encouraged sir.”

“In that case, kiss me Hardy.”

Re: what brands of fridge freezers are good?

hi empres1, liebherr have a couple of models under 60cm in stainless.

theres the CTa 2421 which has a top mounted freezer.
theres the CN(a) 3023 comfort and the CUN3021 both having the freezer compartment at the bottom.
as don says, if you could possibly squeeze another 10mm, then that would increase your range.

    Re: Commercial Repairs

shane, the non-payment aspect wouldn’t apply if the work came through isdal. well hopefully, anyway 😉
i find isdal to be one of the better wp’s and certainly one of the better payers.

what i find incredible, is that richard dalley is turning potential contracts down.
apparently, he didn’t get much response, well to my recollection nobody canvassed our opinion and we’ve worked with isdal for a number of years.
