    re. parts
i was particualry thinking of a f/f that we do a lot off, gave advice to with reguards to what needs to be fitted to cure prob, transpires in a later conversation that not all parts fitted due to parts cost … found a bit alarming with reguards to safety.

i generally think parts are to expensive, making most repairs hardly viable,
being on the tools myself i can sympathize with reguards to over ordering , ie motor /module but most of the new cheaper appliances really do need motor /module seems as though cheap motors are taking out cheap pcbs nowadays…

not sticking up for this practice but i can sympathize

engineers are probaly trying to avoid
    multi visits
manager/customer accusing them of mis diagnosois
customers causing all sorts of hassle as their appliance wasnt fixed
further tel calls to insu co, etc

ad to this the vast mix of appliances that are out their van stock can be an issue. it isnt an easy job i would say w/good engineers are under a fair bit of pressure to get it right.you cant blame them to much for over ordering, if spares were half price or less i dont think this would be an issue ..

maybe industry need to re-think but cant see that happening, they seem to be making to much out of over priced spares..

anyway back to bg … they are huge on safety with reguards to what engineer should be doing in customers property , and reguarly suspend engineers for failing to carry out work in a safe manner, but then demand cost saving on parts which in many case will compamise customer safety

    Re: british gas

seems as though theres alot of worried and unhappy engineers
some of the guys i keep intouch with are what i would reguard as company men and wont have a bad word said about b/g , but even they are starting to voice there opinions ..

what worries , well it doesnt really is the fact tha they are instructed to cut costs…mostly on parts , cant imagine how they are giving customers a good job by cost cutting on parts …

    Re: PCI DSS

    cheers ,
    thought that was the case..

i would pay-pal is the easiest way to process payments then, as you are directing customers to a secure online transaction between them and pay-pal..

just setup a paypal account , login and click request payment , this open ascreen where you are askes to enter customers email , the amount req,d and a box for any message you want to send with request..
when cust receives email , they click on link and that takes them to pay-pal ….

wery easy transaction, i suppose the trick is the timing ..you need to make sure pay-pal been paid before you arrive , or if you have a phone with www access then you can process it at customers property …

    Re: JTM again!

dont do anymore work for them ,
sounds drastic but think about it , theres no point in running about doing calls that you have very little chance of getting paid for …
you are effectively bank-rolling jtm , as no doubt they have been paid for the work you have done.

think how many other agents are using their own fuel, time, office staff, phone calls etc for jtm they must be psssssing themselfs

please dont give this mob the satisfaction of having you run about for nothing

its not worth the hassle mate ..get what you can of them and run for the hills …

    Re: card services

my mates just got a terminal from abbey , think its about 25 per month and free calls via vodaphone..

we use paypal a lot ..we charge landlords etc upfront call-out and then get office to send another pay pal for parts balance whilst at property,, most of the time we have to order parts and go back , so we make sure parts balance paid b4 we go back … dont know if anyone uses pay-pal but all you do is send email payment request , cust then click link in email takes them to paypal online bank where they can pay with any card..

i think pay pal also offer virual terminal , think its web based where you log in and use online terminal..so idf you have blackberry etc you can use as terminal … probally cheaper then rental of terminal from bank … dont really know all the ins and outs but may be worth a look ..

Re: Massive Samsung Recall For Exploding Fridges!

i think they have got their act together with reguards to payment to agents..

when we first started we were passed from pillar to post about payment wher nobody was remotley intrested in helping , we would eventually get paid after reading the riot act..

online system is a bit of a nightmare and constantly rejects claims for a whole host of silly reasons ..

Re: Advertising with BT Customer Street Websites

WWW advertising is a bit of a mine field… unless you are very good at web design / seo , you wont get the desired results..

iadom..your potential new customers would have to know your name 1st to enter iadom into google.???

search engines test your home page for consistency words in the right place context etc and if they dont like it they wont rank you high – so even if your web site looks good it wont rank good because of your home page set up …

we intialy built our own site which is still running and we do get quite a few jobs from it , we have on online booking form which i think helps with customers who are at work and cant use the phone …as i said we built this ourselfs took a few days and loads of editing etc -still isnt perfect but in a way i think a lot of customers like it as they kinda know they are dealing with a local repair buis and not a multi national corp…
    have a look http://www.4kitchenappliancerepairs.co.uk

we also paid a web developement co , about £600.00 for a more profesional site , which does look the part …but we have had loads of problems trying to get web co to edit and change stuff that we dont like ..
still an ongoing issue after about a year … so be warned if you do use web developers make sure they are willing to work with you going forward as their is always things you may want to change…
having said that i think the site is very good and we get a free phone no with it with 1000 mins a month and seo etc …
    http://www.4kitchenappliancerepairs.com

hopefully these 2 sites will give anyone an better idea of what you can do yourself and if you are prepared to pay someone , both sites works for us
and both are still working progress ..

Re: Advertising with BT Customer Street Websites

i think rep-care have 6 full time web developers , constantly adjusting and tinkering to keep them high on google etc ,,

you can make your own site very easy … and use google add-words you can set your own spend budget, key search words , and geographic area , but all very time consuming..

but to be honest if you want a sh*t hot web site and top rankings you will have to pay .
